Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar has rejected the Congress' privilege motion against Home Minister Amit Shah. The motion, moved by Jairam Ramesh, was in response to Shah's comments on the PM Relief Fund during a discussion on disaster management. Shah alleged that one family controlled the fund during the UPA government, which the Congress interpreted as targeting Sonia Gandhi. Dhankar ruled that Shah had substantiated his statements.

00:00Let's cut across to news coming in from Parliament, where the Rajya Sabha Chairman
00:09Jagdeep Dhankar has rejected the Congress' privilege motion against Home Minister Amit
00:13Shah.
00:14Congress' Jayaram Ramesh had moved this privilege motion against Amit Shah after accusing
00:19Amit Shah of targeting Sonia Gandhi.
00:22Remember that the Home Minister, while speaking, in fact, on the disaster management, also
00:29mentioned how, in fact, the Congress and how one family had all control of the PM relief
00:37fund.
00:38And while he hadn't named Sonia Gandhi, the Congress has said it was clearly a dig at
00:42Sonia Gandhi and that's why they moved the privilege motion against him.
00:59That's when Moshmi Singh, she's joining us live with more details on this Moshmi set
01:25back for the Congress with their privilege motion being shot down by the Rajya Sabha
01:29Chairman.
01:30But give us details really of why the Congress took offence to Home Minister Amit Shah's
01:33statement there.
01:34Simply, Akshita, because the Congress says that Sonia Gandhi is a member of the upper
01:41house and this is a matter of privilege that the Home Minister made unsubstantiated allegations
01:49against a present member of the house and the rule book says that you need to substantiate
01:56it.
01:57On the other hand, we heard the chairperson today say that the privilege motion has been
02:03dropped because whatever Amit Shah has said, he has substantiated those charges.
02:09That invariably means that the PM relief fund at that point of time when the UPA was in
02:16power indicating Amit Shah said that the Congress President also controlled the PM
02:23relief fund and at that time Sonia Gandhi was the President so the chairperson found
02:30it substantiated enough to not accept the privilege motion that was moved by Jairam
02:35Ramesh.
02:36Alright, thanks very much Moshmi for getting us all of those details.
02:39The Congress's privilege motion being shot down as Moshmi tells us, the Rajya Sabha Chairman
02:44saying that Home Minister Amit Shah has substantiated every statement that is made in the house
02:49and of course, remember that the entire showdown was over Home Minister Amit Shah's comments
02:54really on the first family of Congress.
02:58As he put it, while he didn't name Sonia Gandhi, he alleged that it was one family that in
03:04fact controlled relief funds.
