A child has died after being hit by a car on his way to school in tees-dale near Geelong in Victoria.

00:00Tragedy has struck the small regional town of Teesdale, located about 30 minutes west

00:08A six-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle while on his way to school, crossing the road to
00:14the bus stop, and passersby attempted CPR, but he died at the scene.
00:19He was accompanied by his two siblings, his nine-year-old brother and 12-year-old sister,
00:24neither of whom were hurt, but they were all on their way to Geelong to school, just
00:30doing their normal, usual morning routine.
00:33The driver was a female, 84-year-old woman.
00:37She was also a local from Teesdale.
00:39She did stop at the scene, but police don't believe she attempted to provide assistance.
00:45She did drive off, and her vehicle was later located by police at a property nearby.
00:50The vehicle has been seized for forensic investigation, and that woman has also been
00:55taken into custody.
00:58Police are treating this as a hit-and-run, and they will be investigating whether the
01:02driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or whether she was driving while
01:08distracted.
01:09She'll be interviewed in the next short period of time, we're currently processing the scene
01:14until we get all of our evidence, then we'll interview the offender, and that'll determine
01:18where we proceed from here.
01:20Now, Teesdale is a small community with a population of about 4,500 people, and police
01:26say as it is a major road, it's one that locals take very frequently, it passes through the
01:32heart of the town, and it's going to be a scene that's going to be very difficult to
01:36forget.
