00:00And in news overseas, a powerful earthquake hit Myanmar and neighboring Thailand on Friday,
00:06turning a major hospital in the Myanmar capital into a mass casualty area, trapping dozens
00:11of workers in an under construction skyscraper in Bangkok.
00:15The United States Geological Survey said that 7.7 magnitude tremor hit the northwest of
00:21the city of Sagaing on Friday afternoon at a shallow depth, while a 6.4 magnitude aftershock
00:27hit the same area minutes later.
00:30The quakes caused widespread damage, particularly in Myanmar, where buildings fell onto their
00:35sides, roads cracked open, and the well-known Ava Bridge collapsed near the epicenter.
00:41Wounded at the 1,000-bed facility were being treated outside.
00:45The quake prompted Thai Prime Minister Phetthongkarn Sinawatra to declare a state of emergency
00:50in Bangkok.
00:51It was also felt across the region, with China, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and India all reporting
00:57tremors.
