Ross Svenson, Tarwin Lower cattle buyer and beef producer talks about the potential "Trump tariffs" to Andrew Miller
Transcript
00:00Trump's talking about introducing tariffs on Liberation Day on April 2nd.
00:05What sort of impact do you think that'll have on Victorian beef producers?
00:09You've got to be aware of it, but the impact, there's nothing we can do as producers.
00:14We've just got to work with it and work around it,
00:17and just like managing the weather, it's just another obstacle to manage.
00:23Do you think it will have an impact on sales, a 25% increase in the cost of beef in America?
00:30Yes, everything will have an impact on sales, but it's increasing the gap of those
00:36with the have and have-nots, so it'll force more people to eat prepared meals, as in McDonald's.
00:44But there's nothing we can do, we've just got to duck and weave and manage it as it happens.
00:49How do you do that then, what's your best advice?
00:53You've just got to be aware of the markets, and sometimes it goes down, but over 12 months
00:58everything averages out and resets a new value.
