00:00Welcome to Guardian Women's Festival 2025. Today we celebrate fearless women
00:05leading industries and shaping our economy. The message is clear, themed
00:09women mean business. I am Temitayo Peters, your eyes and ears for this event.
00:14Stick around as we go meet the Game Changers.
00:19We're talking about women par excellence. If you were in the hall, well if you were
00:34speaking or more you will be blown away. Alright so talking about, she made these
00:38right? Like do you get? So you spoke about I mean female in in the fashion
00:47industry. So tell me how do you navigate your path in a male-dominated industry
00:53especially being a female designer? I think the first thing is you have to be
00:57very dogged. First of all, no let's take it from the top. You have to own and know
01:02your craft because I think knowing your craft is the first form of confidence
01:06booster that you would have. Then you need to know, I look at myself as a
01:09fashion designer, not a female fashion designer. I understand that I need to put
01:14in a lot more work to get recognition. So in everybody that I deal with, I
01:18ensure that I'm bringing a hundred percent for my craft. I walk into rooms
01:23knowing that I need to prove myself extra. And so that those are the things
01:28you know that push me. I don't look at myself as oh I'm just a girl. No, I go and
01:32I'm a very driven person. So if I say I want something, I know to network
01:37towards what I need to achieve. And like I also said, the power of women. I have a
01:41strong network of support women who would continually push me towards people
01:45that are looking for my services, who would shape me into presenting
01:50myself and present my business in a way that will be well positioned in the
01:54world. And so these are the things that help me to just continue to push myself
01:57as a woman in fashion. So how do you blend classic tailoring with latest
02:01trend? First of all, I preach to people, own your style. You will do trends but you
02:06will first understand your style. If I understand my style, I will understand
02:10it's not every trend I would jump on. If I jump on trends, I
02:14would jump on trends in a way that aligns with my personal style. So I think
02:19that's what I would say the balance between personal style and trends. And
02:23lastly, what will you tell an aspiring female fashion designer?
02:29Know your craft. Because you can do Instagram, people can push you
02:36forward, people can recommend you. Do you know what you're doing? Learn, learn,
02:41continue to learn. Learn from competitors, learn from your tailors, learn from
02:47academic learning, learn from experience. I would shout it time and time again, be
02:53competent. And then once you're competent, once you know your craft, own it. Don't
02:57look like, don't go, don't come around with the pity party, oh I'm just here, no.
03:01Push those doors. Look at people ahead of you that have done it, nothing happened.
03:05When you get into those rooms, like Obama once said, you realize that we're literally all the
03:08same. So really, really believe in yourself and find people because
03:10sometimes it can be daunting. Find people around you that would continue to push
03:15you towards, you know, your destiny, which is upward.
03:18Alright, typical example of women breaking barriers. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Evie Ozola.
