00:00Top White House officials mistakenly disclosed war plans in a group chat which included a
00:04journalist just before the United States attacked Houthi rebels in Yemen.
00:09The White House confirms this following a first-hand account by The Atlantic Editor-in-Chief
00:12Jeffrey Goldberg.
00:14Goldberg says he was unexpectedly invited on March 13 to an encrypted chat group called
00:18the Houthi PC Small Group.
00:20Hours before the Yemen attacks, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted operational details about
00:25the plan in the messaging group, which Goldberg says included information about targets, weapons
00:29the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing.
00:33Goldberg says members of the group chat appeared to be the following officials, which include
00:37Vice President J.D. Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
00:41U.S. National Security Council Spokesperson Brian Hughes says the chat group appeared to
00:45be authentic and they are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.
00:50Democratic lawmakers swiftly blasted the misstep, saying it was a breach of national security
00:54and a violation of law that must be investigated by Congress.
