Keir Starmer makes rare visit to Vanguard nuclear submarine in show of strength
Transcript
00:00We've just come off the Bangar-class submarine to see the team. They've just
00:05been on a tour constantly at sea, part of our nuclear deterrence and it was the
00:10opportunity to say to them at the end of a long patrol, welcome home and thank you
00:16for the incredible work that they put in keeping our country safe and working
00:24with NATO allies on an essential part of our defence capabilities. So they're
00:29about to meet their families and loved ones now, so that will be an emotional
00:33moment for them, but it was really important for us to be able to go on board as they returned and just say
00:39thank you on behalf of the government, of course, but on behalf of the whole country.
00:49Every one of them pulls together and has a different job. They supported each
00:53other. We understand how tough it was and seeing them on their first day back ahead
01:01of being reunited with their families was a chance to say a very special thank
01:06you to a special team that in this period of greater global uncertainty the
01:12job they do is more important than ever. We're proud of them.
