00:00In a time before Battle Royales, before eSports filled stadiums, there was Halo.
00:07And in Halo, there was one team that struck fear into the hearts of every competitor.
00:13This is the story of Team Final Boss.
00:18What's up fellow gaming fossils?
00:19It's your host, Active, and today we're diving into the ancient scrolls of FPS history.
00:25Grab your Mountain Dew and your Doritos because we're gonna relive the glory days when Halo
00:31was king and one team ruled them all.
00:34Picture this, it's 2004, Halo 2 just dropped, and MySpace is all the rage.
00:40And flip phones are at the height of technology.
00:43Yeah, I know, ancient history, right?
00:47But trust me kids, this was peak gaming culture.
00:51Video game is expected to have bigger first day revenues than any movie has ever had an opening day.
00:57In this primordial soup of early online gaming, four legendary players came together to form
01:03what would become the most feared Halo squad in history, Team Final Boss.
01:09Coming into this season, the top ranked team is Final Boss.
01:12That's the team!
01:13The two time defending champs have lost only once in two years and are looking for a three-peat.
01:18Led by the twin gods of gaming, Ogre 1 and Ogre 2, alongside the versatile Walshie and
01:24the slaying machine, Saiyan, they began their journey as shoot to kill.
01:29STK started out the 2005 season in pure dominance, winning the very first three MLG 2005 events
01:36on top of the AGP 7 event as well.
01:39Talk about making an entrance.
01:41But wait, it gets better.
01:42These guys were so good, they got sponsored faster than a streamer gets gifted subs.
01:47New name, same game.
01:49Team 3D went on to win five of the next six events.
01:53Here's where it gets a bit spicy.
01:55In April 2006, Team 3D said bye bye to our boys and for the first time, they took on
02:01the name that would make them legends, Final Boss.
02:05And let me tell you, they lived up to that name.
02:08They continued their winning streak into 2006, making it eight in a row.
02:14Eight!
02:15That is the longest winning streak in MLG history.
02:19It's like they were playing with cheat codes or something.
02:22But even legends can fall.
02:24A team named Carbon came along and did the unthinkable.
02:28They dethroned Final Boss in three straight events to close out the season.
02:33For the first time since the dawn of MLG, the Ogre twins and Walshie didn't win the
02:39national championship.
02:41But did our heroes give up?
02:43Heck no!
02:44Team 3D did what any self-respecting team would do when faced with adversity.
02:48They found a scapegoat.
02:49You're fired.
02:50Word on the street is that Saiyan had been spending more time raiding in Azeroth than
02:59practicing Halo.
03:01It looks like someone chose the wrong fantasy world to conquer.
03:04Everyone else wait for Craig to cast his intellect buff.
03:07So while Saiyan was off collecting epic loot and fighting Onyxia, Final Boss was collecting
03:12a new teammate.
03:13Enter Michael Strongside Cavanaugh.
03:15The day Walshie and Ogre 2 asked me to be on the team was probably one of the best days
03:20of my life.
03:21Because that was my dream.
03:22And let me tell you folks, this roster change was more successful than a Covenant glassing
03:27operation.
03:28With Strongside on board, Final Boss went absolutely bananas in 2007.
03:34They didn't just win tournaments.
03:36They conquered them.
03:37But wait!
03:38There's more!
03:40They snagged the crown jewel.
03:42The national championships.
03:44It was like watching the Spartans take on a bunch of grunts.
03:47It just wasn't fair.
03:49By the time the dust settled and the last Halo 2 land cable was unplugged, Final Boss
03:54had cemented their legacy.
03:55They closed out Halo 2 the same way they entered it.
03:59As the Undisputed Kings.
04:01Now buckle up kids, because Halo 3 is where this rollercoaster really kicks into high
04:06gear.
04:07Our heroes started off 2008 like they were shot out of a cannon.
04:12Final Boss, once again, earning the right to call themselves champions.
04:19A new game, a new season, the same champs.
04:24Then things went downhill faster than a warthog with no brakes.
04:28After stumbling to 7th and 5th place finishes, the Ogre twins made a decision more shocking
04:34than finding out the Arbiter was a good guy.
04:36Relax, I'd rather not piss this thing off.
04:40They dropped Walshy?
04:42I know, I know, it's like Mario kicking out Luigi.
04:46But in came Mason Neighbor Cobb and things started looking up.
04:50They clawed their way back to 3rd place finishes in Toronto and Dallas before ending the year
04:56with a respectable 4th at Nationals.
04:582009?
04:59Oh boy.
05:002009 was like someone hit the shuffle button on the roster.
05:05Ogre 1 left to Australia with his girlfriend making Ogre 2 the last man standing from
05:10the original lineup.
05:17It was like watching your favorite band break up, one member at a time.
05:21The team lineup changed more times than I change my socks.
05:24They brought back Strong Side, swapped in Soviet, then Cypher.
05:28It was like musical chairs, but with Halo Pros.
05:312010 was when the magic happened again.
05:34Spirit Self came back, they picked up T.O.T.S., and then they found their secret weapon.
05:42Enter Justin I Got Your Pistola Deez, the Halo 3 wonder kid.
05:47With Pistola on board, Final Boss went from contenders to champions, winning the last
05:533 events of the year.
06:06And so we come to an end of our journey through the legacy of Final Boss.
06:19Their story is one of unparalleled achievement, resilience in the face of adversity, and unwavering
06:24commitment to excellence.
06:26From their early days of dominance to their later challenges and comebacks, Final Boss
06:30did not just compete in Halo tournaments, they defined an era of competitive gaming.
06:36Final Boss' legacy transcends their impressive record of victories.
06:40They inspired countless players to push their limits, fostered a competitive spirit that
06:44drove the entire Halo community forward, and set a standard of professionalism that helped
06:49legitimize esports in its early years.
06:52As we reflect on their journey, we're reminded that true greatness isn't just about victories,
06:57it's about the impact left on the game and its community.
07:01Final Boss didn't just win tournaments, they changed the way we think about competitive
07:06gaming.

07:19Was it Final Boss' dominance, their struggles, or that time Ninja was on the team before
07:24he learned to floss?
