00:00There's been another terrifying child abduction attempt in Melbourne's
00:03South East. Let's go live to Teagan Dowling in Caulfield. So Teagan, a student
00:07there was approached while at a bus stop.
00:11Yes, so this happened yesterday morning, Shervo. The high school student was heading off to school and it's understood they were
00:17walking near a bus stop when an adult in a black car has actually pulled up next
00:22to them and asked them to get inside. Now the student wasn't hurt, they were able
00:26to get to school and told their parents. It was yesterday afternoon when the
00:31deputy principal of the Caulfield Grammar, Caulfield campus, there's quite a
00:35few of them here in Melbourne, put out a statement to all parents just alerting
00:39them about what has happened so that all of the school community was aware. Now
00:43you might be able to cast your mind back to last year. It was mid-November when we
00:48had a number of incidents about the man in the white van who was approaching
00:52kids of all different ages, especially high school students, to get in a van.
00:56There were places like Boronia, Tullamarine, Doncaster and Blackburn. As
01:01far as we understand, no arrests were made in regards to those attempted child
01:05abductions. So very terrifying to think that this is now potentially another new
01:10case, Shervo, and it's probably a timely reminder as the kids head off to the
01:13school this morning just to make sure that you have a chat about strange
01:15danger. Yeah, definitely parents and kids be on alert. Thank you, Teagan. Here's Nat.
01:19Thanks, Shervo. The inquest into the killing of Sydney swim coach Lily James
01:24has her details of the 21-year-old's final moments before she was killed by
01:29her ex-boyfriend. Live to Liam Tapper who's at Lidcombe. Liam, the inquest will
01:33wrap up today. What can we expect?
01:37Yeah, certainly will, Nat. Well, today may be the most heartbreaking day out of all
01:42that have had taken place into Lily James's death. We are expected to hear
01:48from her parents, both Peter and Jamie. They are set to give their comments
01:53about their young daughter, their beautiful daughter, whose life was taken
01:57far, far too soon and also the impact that her loss has had on their lives.
02:03They've had to sit through a number of days of harrowing evidence that has
02:07been played out in front of the court yesterday. They heard about those final
02:12moments that Lily was alive. We were told yesterday that Lily James had
02:18returned back to St Andrews on the evening of October 25. She had waited
02:22with a number of school students as they got off the bus after sports training.
02:26She waited until their parents came to pick her up and that is then when Paul
02:31Tyson has corralled her into one of those toilet cubicles, those toilet
02:36cubicles that he had practiced this callous, callous act on a number of times.
02:41Now after he murdered Lily James, we're told that he sat with her body for more
02:46than an hour and a half. He then made the triple zero call. So Nat, certainly a lot
02:52of tough, tough information to be processed, not just for the family but
02:57for the general public as well, but certainly going to be a tough day for
03:00Lily's family here who will speak for the first time. Yeah, how on earth did
03:05they sum up the impact that that has had on their life? Thank you Lynne. If you or
03:10anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence, support and counselling
03:16is available through services including 1800RESPECT. Let's get some more
03:21news now. Here's Mon. Jervo, thank you. Good morning. The cost of your visit to
03:25the pharmacy is about to get a whole lot cheaper after a major election pledge by
03:29the Prime Minister. Let's go live to Josh Martin now in camera. Now Josh, how much
03:32are we set to save on scripts here? Good morning Mon. If your medicine is on the
03:36pharmaceutical benefit scheme, your cost per script will be capped at $25 down
03:41from about $31. That will save Australian consumers a collective $200 million a
03:46year and will reduce the price of four out of five PBS medicines. The Prime
03:51Minister is set to announce the policy in a major pre-election and pre-budget
03:55speech on the Gold Coast today. The cheaper medicines plan will cost
03:59taxpayers in the budget $650 million during the next four years, but it's a
04:04major cost-of-living win. Labor's announcements this year have been
04:08dominated by health care, including funding for more urgent care clinics and
04:12expanding Medicare bulk billing to all Australians. This latest move, another
04:16attempt to try and wedge Peter Dutton and the Coalition, but the Shadow Health
04:21Minister has announced the opposition will match the policy. Mon, meaning those
04:25cheaper PBS scripts are locked in. Alright Josh, thank you. There were wild
04:30scenes in Sydney yesterday as two nurses faced court for allegedly threatening
04:35Israeli patients in an online rant. One was shielded by a big pack of supporters
04:40in black hoodies who dragged her away from the media pack in a headlock. How
04:47much do you regret what happened and what should you do now? Their cases were
04:51adjourned until May. Queensland's 2032 Stadium stouch has gone nuclear with
04:58fresh barbs being traded between southeast mayors. Let's go live to
05:02Georgie Cholmondeley now who's in Brisbane. Georgie, good morning. Now the
05:05mayor of the Gold Coast has come out swinging. Good morning Mon, that's right.
05:11Mayor Tom Tate has essentially called Adrian Schrinner, Brisbane's Lord Mayor, a
05:16freeloader over criticism that Brisbane City Council isn't investing its own
05:20money in Olympic venues for 2032 and he's really seized on this opportunity
05:25and says that he is in discussions to steal the swimming from Brisbane. Not
05:29only the swimming but also the golf, the rowing as well as the hockey and he's
05:34pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to build Olympic and Paralympic venues
05:38on the Gold Coast. This is concerning. It could be an offer that is too good
05:43refuse for games organisers. The Brisbane's Lord Mayor Adrian
05:48Schrinner has come out saying that this is all silly squabbles and that Brisbane
05:51City Council has invested billions of dollars in other infrastructure like
05:55Brisbane Metro, green bridges that will support people getting around for the
05:59Olympics but it could be an offer too good to refuse with money looking pretty
06:03tight for 2032. It's all happening Georgie, thank you. Overseas now to
06:09breaking news, Donald Trump says that we are very much on track for a ceasefire
06:12agreement following a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
06:16The US President said during the call which lasted for an hour, President
06:20Zelensky agreed to a partial ceasefire with Russia that includes stopping
06:25attacks on energy facilities. The call took place a day after Donald Trump
06:29spoke for more than two hours with Vladimir Putin. A union of the world's
06:35top tennis players founded by Novak Djokovic has announced explosive legal
06:40action aimed at the sports governing bodies. Players including Djokovic and
06:45Aussie Nick Kyrgios are listed as plaintiffs with the Professional Tennis
06:49Players Association. The PTPA has vowed to expose what it's calling systemic
06:54abuse, anti-competitive practices and disregard for player welfare in the
06:59sport. The accused associations including the ATP have responded vowing to defend
07:04themselves against these claims. A shocking confrontation has stunned
07:09locals in Adelaide after a man pulled out a machete in a quiet suburban street.
07:14Let's go live to Hayden Nelson who's in Adelaide. Now Hayden, the man remains at
07:18large this morning. Yeah well this frightening violent incident is
07:23certainly the center of a police investigation this morning. It happened
07:26on Monday in the city's western suburbs Beverly in Spring Street close to a
07:31school and one of the men of this group of three who were having a verbal
07:34confrontation on the front yard had three dogs with him. He said it was a
07:38discussion about electricity and water but it really escalated when one of
07:42those men brought out a machete. There are certainly questions as to why anyone
07:46would be wandering around with a machete in broad daylight and waving it
07:49around so close to other homes so close to neighbors and close to a school as
07:54well and that is certainly part of that police investigation this morning. Mon.
07:57Hayden, thank you. A stunning new report has revealed Melbourne's Westgate tunnel
08:02is running out of money with an extra 1 billion dollars likely needed to get the
08:06job done. The tunnel had a budget of a little more than 6 billion dollars when
08:11contracts were signed. The bill has since soared now forecast to pass 11 billion
08:16dollars. Builders say their costs have risen due to years of price pressures.
