A chilly start, with early frost across Scotland and northern England in particular clearing along with any mist and fog patches. Long spells of sunshine for many, with just a few areas of cloud across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the risk of an isolated shower. Light winds, but turning breezy in the far west later. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 20/03/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

00:00Good morning, it's the vernal equinox this morning and it'll certainly feel
00:05like spring for many of us out there this afternoon. But first thing, still a
00:09bit of a chill in the air, frost across Scotland and the far north of England
00:13too, that disappearing along with any mist and fog patches and for most places
00:17it's another cracking day. There'll be a bit more cloud round at times over parts
00:22of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, very small chance of a light shower but the
00:25vast majority staying dry and staying fine. Still a bit of a breeze blowing
00:30across the southwest of England and the breeze will pick up a little in
00:34Western Scotland too. But for most places the winds pretty light so yes a bit of a
00:38chilly start but temperatures soon rising. Probably the warmest day of the
00:43year, first time we're going to get over 20 Celsius, might squeak up to 21
00:48somewhere just to the north of London perhaps. East coast a little bit down on
00:52these numbers but actually this is quite a bit warmer than it was yesterday.
00:57Let's compare these temperatures to the average for March and you can see that
01:01we are well above across much of England and Wales but closer to average where
01:07it's still a little cool on some of those North Sea coasts. As we go through
01:11the evening and overnight we'll start to see a bit of a change. The breeze picking
01:15up further across the southwest of England but still most places will stay
01:19dry. It's the threat of some showers coming into parts of Cornwall and the Isles of
01:24Scilly through the early hours. But still as I say most of the places staying dry
01:28could be some mist and fog around again but as that breeze starts to pick up
01:32once more we'll notice that bringing a cooler feel again along some of those
01:38North Sea coasts. But generally a lot milder than many nights this week
01:41particularly in the south. Look at that some places may stay in double figures
01:45and across Scotland nothing like as frosty as the night just gone. So still
01:51for tomorrow many places dry and bright but we will see that change further west.
01:55Some showers coming into Devon, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire and spreading at times
01:59into parts of Northern Ireland. A bit of a question mark about how widely these
02:03showers spread and how heavy they are but something just to keep an eye on
02:06through tomorrow. We could see some developing elsewhere in southern England
02:10late in the day. For the vast majority though it's another dry and bright day.
02:13Sunshine may be a little hazy with a bit more high cloud around but that
02:18breeze will be strengthening again. So on the coast again feeling rather cool but
02:24still these temperatures in land and towns and cities a touch above average
02:27and with some sunshine. 1819 across the heart of England and we could see
02:31something similar across the northwest of Scotland as well. Again if we compare
02:35the temperatures to the average for the time of year many places around six
02:40degrees above average and Friday in particular a warmer day across the
02:45highlands of Scotland. So that's when temperatures likely to peak here as I
02:49said we could reach into the high teens. Cooler again along some of those North
02:52Sea coasts and a bit cooler with the cloudier conditions across the southwest
02:56of England from this area of low pressure and that really changes things
03:00for the weekend. The dry and bright weather isn't going to last as that low
03:04moves in it will bring increasing chance of showers during Saturday and Sunday.
