00:00Those of us paying attention are alarmed and trying to call attention to Trump's dismantling
00:06of freedoms and civil rights in this country, such as him trying to issue an executive order
00:11to change the Constitution regarding birthright citizenship or an executive order to target
00:16a single law firm because they represented Hillary Clinton.
00:19Well, it's not just us raising the alarm anymore.
00:23An international group has just put the United States on their monitor list for the first
00:29time ever.
00:30They put countries on their monitor list that are actively violating human civil rights.
00:36My name is Dina Dahl with the Midas Touch Network.
00:38Let's break this down.
00:39The international group Civics Monitor has issued a press release explaining why they
00:45have put the United States on this watch list.
00:48They say the United States, once a global champion of democracy and human rights, joins
00:54the first 2025 watch list, along with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan
01:01and Serbia.
01:02The arbitrary U.S. pullbacks from aid and multilateral cooperation, including the World
01:07Health Organization and the UN Human Rights Council, will likely impact civic freedoms
01:13and reverse hard-won human rights gains around the world.
01:19Continued protest crackdowns are backed by a legislative push in several states.
01:23Countries have continued repression against pro-Palestinian protesters with arbitrary
01:28penalties and student visa cancellations.
01:30At least 12 states have introduced laws restricting protests, including criminalizing the use
01:36of masks at demonstrations.
01:38The arbitrary freezing of federal funding and foreign aid jeopardizes the civil society.
01:44In January 2025, the Trump administration cut crucial federal funds, risking U.S. organizations'
01:50vital work with marginalized communities.
01:52A broad overhaul of U.S. foreign aid policies has led to the dismantling of U.S. aid and
01:58the suspension of international cooperation initiatives, including those that help to
02:02protect persecuted activists who are now at greater risk of experiencing violence with
02:08severe consequences for civil society organizations around the world.
02:13A lapse bill enabling the Treasury Department to revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits
02:19based on vague and arbitrary grounds of terrorism could be renewed anytime.
02:24The new administration has attacked hard-fought progress on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
02:29It has also stopped funding for civil society organizations that support sexual and reproductive
02:34freedoms due to its negative stance on abortion rights.
02:39The White House now determines which media outlets access presidential press briefings.
02:44Associated press journalists are barred from briefings.
02:48Those covering politically sensitive topics are forcibly removed from press briefings,
02:52banned from White House events, and denied access to government officials.
02:57Journalists have also been intimidated.
02:59Concerns of unprecedented restrictions on public access to independent reporting continue
03:04to grow at national and state levels.
03:08And they say the leaders of their organization, quote, we urge the United States to uphold
03:13the rule of law and respect constitutional and international human rights norms.
03:18So all the things that they are talking about are certainly all the things we have been
03:23talking about.
03:25Here at the Midas Touch Network, they go on to say in their press release talking about
03:30putting the United States on this list that, quote, everything that Trump is doing is an
03:35unparalleled attack on the rule of law in the United States not seen since the days
03:40of McCarthyism in the 20th century.
03:43Restrictive executive orders, unjustifiable institutional cutbacks, and intimidation tactics
03:49through threatening pronouncements by senior officials in the administration are creating
03:53an atmosphere to chill democratic dissent, a cherished American ideal.
04:00The Trump administration seems hellbent on dismantling the system of checks and balances,
04:05which are the pillars of a democratic society.
04:10Everything we have been talking about on Midas, everything raising the alarm.
04:15Now the United States being put on this watch list, Hawaii talking about how they are concerned
04:20because so much of their industry is tourism.
04:24And now tourists from around the world may reconsider travel to the United States.
04:29And this comes into effect.
04:32What is happening to the Palestinian protester in Colombia?
04:36As we know, he was here illegally.
04:39Interestingly, the reason why the Trump administration knew his name, he was a Columbia student and
04:45he put his name, he recorded his name because he was the negotiator, the negotiator between
04:52the students and the university.
04:56Most protesters did protest anonymously because even then it was very divisive whether or
05:01not to protest or not.
05:03But because he was the official negotiator, he had to give his name.
05:10And this person who was trying to resolve the conflict is now trying to be deported
05:18by the administration because they don't like what he said.
05:22This is, of course, the McCarthyism and perhaps even worse than the McCarthyism, because that
05:28was awful about taking away your jobs.
05:32This is about taking away somebody from the country altogether that can be here legally.
05:36You might say, well, he wasn't yet a citizen, but are we going to really think Trump is
05:41going to stop at this?
05:43Who knows where he's going to stop?
05:44The fact of the matter is, if somebody is here legally, you cannot revoke their visa
05:50because of free speech, because they have a right to free speech just like everyone
05:54else.
05:55And of course, Trump is trying to use some sort of national security phrase as saying
06:01why he's justifying him leaving.

09:28What happened with the 10-year-old girl, American citizen who's suffering from brain cancer?
09:33ICE deported her, despite the fact that she's an American citizen, and her four American
09:39siblings to Mexico with their undocumented parents.
09:44American citizens have rights, yet they were all deported together.
09:49And the really horrible part of this, of course, is the fact that this child was getting brain
09:55cancer treatment in Texas, and they were traveling to doctors when they were caught.
10:01And they had letters from their doctors explaining why they needed to be there.
10:05But despite that, this heartless administration departing this American citizen who desperately
10:12needs treatment, she has rights.
10:15This is what that watch list is talking about when they put us on the watch list saying
10:20that we are violating human and civil rights.
10:24That is an example.
10:25And the examples just mount.
10:28Trump firing thousands of federal workers, despite the fact that they have to be fired
10:33for a cause, takes away their civic rights.
10:36Trump trying to change the Constitution regarding birthright citizenship, attempts to take away
10:42our civic rights and rewrite the Constitution.
10:45His executive order regarding Perkins Coie is a matter of telling everyone they should
10:50be threatened because he plans on using the power of the presidency against them.
10:56Thankfully, a judge with an executive order has stopped that executive order, but Perkins
11:00Coie said that they are already losing revenue as a result of it because in that executive
11:05order, Trump said that they no longer had security clearance and that no contractor
11:11could essentially work with them.
11:13Well, I worked for a big law firm similar to Perkins Coie, and those big law firms often
11:19represent large companies, which tend to be contractors.
11:23We're talking Boeing.
11:24We're talking Northrop.
11:25The amount of companies that have grants or are associated with the federal government
11:30or contractors with the federal government is huge.
11:33And those large companies tend to hire big law firms who can navigate the many regulations
11:39that they have to encounter.
11:41So for the executive order to specifically call out Perkins Coie because he didn't like
11:48the fact that they represented Hillary Clinton, is doing not only is that hurting Perkins
11:54Coie quite a bit.
11:56It is a signal to everyone else that if they don't do what he wants them to do, he will
12:05be willing to come after them with his power.
12:08This is yet another example of the diminishing that the trampling on human and civic rights
12:17in this country under Trump.
