00:00Tens of thousands of South Koreans gathered in Seoul on Saturday, either rallying in support
00:10of or protesting against impeached President Yun Suk-yol, ahead of a crucial court ruling
00:15on his fate.
00:17The Constitutional Court is set to decide in the coming days whether Yun's brief declaration
00:22of martial law disqualifies him from office, a ruling that could deepen South Korea's worst
00:28political crisis in decades and unsettle financial markets.
00:34In central Seoul, anti-Yun demonstrators filled a large square, demanding his immediate removal
00:40and were joined by opposition politicians.
00:43Just a few blocks away, conservative supporters packed an entire avenue, calling for his reinstatement.
00:49We need to let the people know that his brief declaration of martial law is wrong.
00:56We hope that the judges of the Constitutional Court will make the right decision and
01:02bring him to justice.
01:04Last week, I thought there would be a verdict in the Constitutional Court, but there wasn't.
01:11And because Yun Suk-yol was released, I was frustrated.
01:18So this week, next week, I hope that the Constitutional Court will give me a fair verdict.
01:28According to the Yonhap News Agency, the main opposition Democratic Party claimed that one
01:33million people attended the anti-Yun rally, while police estimated 43,000 participants
01:39at each protest.
01:41Beyond the impeachment case, Yun also faces a criminal trial on charges of insurrection,
01:47though he was released from detention last week.
01:50His imposition of martial law and its fallout have deepened political divisions between
01:54conservatives and liberals, straining institutions and placing the military in a difficult position
02:01over whether to enforce the order.
