This could be the biggest controversy in Marvel happening right now. I'm talking about the characters' costumes. I've already said that I really like how Marvel has been bolder with its costumes; in She-Hulk, we saw a lot of comical costumes that were very faithful to the comics, which I really liked. But I think we have a big problem with many of the main superheroes relying too much on nanotechnology to wear their costumes. We saw this start in Black Panther and Iron Man, which makes sense for these characters, especially with Tony Stark integrating more technology every time he creates a suit. In Iron Man 3, we saw what happened when his suit was out of reach, with parts of the armor flying across the country to him. And with nanotechnology, it made sense for him to go down this path, just like Black Panther, since Wakanda developed this technology.
However, I feel that this has become a lazier way of getting the characters into their costumes. The suit-up sequences used to be amazing. I remember the first time we saw Tony Stark putting on the Iron Man armor in the first movie; it was an event. Even the first time he uses the nanotech armor in Avengers: Infinity War is a big moment. But then we have nanotechnology in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. I understand its purpose and why it was used in that film; nanotechnology became the standard way these suits worked in Endgame, so it makes sense for that to transfer to this film. However, I just hate the way they put the suits on now; it feels so fake and I don’t like it. I miss the physical suits, the way they used to look.
This nanotechnology became so famous that it transcended the Marvel Universe and ended up in the DC Universe. Yes, we can see it in some films like Black Adam and the second Suicide Squad movie. Even in TV series, we see Supergirl with a nanotech suit. If you don’t remember, the first time we saw this technology was in Guardians of the Galaxy, where James Gunn is the director. He had some issues and ended up going to DC, taking this technology with him, as we see it in the second Suicide Squad movie. Fun fact: he's now the new head of films at DC Comics, and I hope with all my heart that he doesn’t adopt this for the new Superman movie. Nobody can take it anymore. Even Captain America has nanotechnology for protection, and he literally has a shield for that, which completely changes the character. Why does he need the shield if he has the technology? It’s not as impressive or cool when they just hit their chest and, boom, they’re in their suits.
