00:00The Department of Labor and Employment, or DOLE, reminded companies that the weather is very hot in some parts of the country.
00:07In an interview with Radio Pilipinas, Atty. Benjo Santos-Benavides, Undersecretary for Workers, Welfare, and Protection Cluster of DOLE,
00:15said that safety and health measures should be taken to reduce or control the stress of the hot weather.
00:22In 2023, they issued a labor advisory because they also experienced a very hot weather back then.
00:28Aside from these reminders, the existence of a safety officer and first aider of the companies should also put a mechanism
00:35where there is a free flow of air in a factory.
00:39Emergency exits should also be clear, especially in March, which is Fire Prevention Month.
00:43Companies should also adjust their rest breaks, especially if the employees have direct exposure to the sun.
00:51There is a chance of punishment for companies that do not follow this.
00:56In 2028, we passed the OSH law and the punishment was included.
01:02This is a penalty, not to exceed P100,000.
01:07But this is not a simple violation. This is a willful failure to comply with the OSH standard.
01:16So what we are penalizing, even though we have reminders that do not comply,
01:24is a penalty that is included in our department order implementing Republic Act 11-058.
