Silver Surfer: Why did Marvel change the Hero's gender?

A version of the Silver Surfer is confirmed in the Fantastic Four reboot. But why will it be a woman?
Why will Marvel turn the Silver Surfer into a WOMAN in the new Fantastic Four movie? After all, many fans were surprised by the confirmation that actress Julia Garner played a version of the hero in the MCU.

First, let's answer the question straight away: Marvel DID NOT CHANGE THE GENDER OF THE SILVER SURFER in the MCU. That's because the Surfer in the film will NOT be Norrin Radd, the main character to inherit that title.

Instead, Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal! In the Marvel comics, Shalla is Emperor of Zenn-La and has a romantic relationship with Norrin Radd. However, the love story between the two is interrupted by the arrival of Galactus and Norrin's transformation into one of his Heralds.

However, the decision to transform Shalla-Bal into a Silver Surfer will not be something original to the MCU. This is exactly what happened in the Earth-X comics, where Shalla receives the powers of Galactus and is the second character to take on the title of Silver Surfer.

Considering that the Fantastic Four will NOT take place on Earth-616, the Sacred Timeline, this idea makes perfect sense. So this opens the door for the MCU's mainline Surfer to still be the famous Norrin Radd.

Just like the decision to bring Julia Garner to the cast is completely based on the comics. For those who value fidelity to the source material, there is no need to complain!
