00:00Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:02Actually, can I have this?
00:04Can you raise this up?
00:06I apologize.
00:08I appreciate it.
00:10Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:11Mr. Speaker, I rise today to address the House to highlight my support of Head Start.
00:17I most recently, in my district, visited an organization called the Unity Council that serves families and parents and seniors and children,
00:25providing them with affordable housing, career opportunities, community engagement, and, yes, Head Start programs.
00:32I learned from the Unity Council that President Trump and the administration has stopped funding for the Oakland Head Start program.
00:40This means that over 600 children will not have daycare, mental health services, dental care, and basic health screenings all provided by this incredible program.
00:52The President promised, recently said he would not touch the Head Start program, and yet here we are nationally.
01:01Over 800,000 children receive daycare support from Head Start.
01:06Cutting Head Start funding and stopping early childhood development, it's not efficiency.
01:13It's not trimming the fat.
01:15Cutting programs like Head Start is breaking, literally, the bones of our nation and of our future.
01:21Mr. Speaker, I yield back.
01:24The gentleman yields.
