Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), 15 May (ANI): Rishikesh, a city where spirituality meets nature, is taking concrete steps to protect the sacred Ganga through the Namami Gange Mission. Under this mission, three STPs (38.5 MLD) have been established, and two more (8.0 MLD and 300 KLD) are proposed. A key project is the 7.5 MLD STP at Chandreshwar Nagar, commissioned in 2020, using MBBR technology and built compactly on just 900 sq.m. It treats household sewage, ensuring only clean water enters the Ganga. An in-house lab and online monitoring ensure compliance with pollution control standards. Locals report cleaner river conditions, but public cooperation remains vital. This initiative is a blend of engineering, environmental care, and cultural responsibility for future generations.

00:00Rishikesh, a city nestled on the banks of the Ganga where faith, yoga, adventure and nature beautifully converge.
00:13But its identity goes beyond religion and tourism.
00:18The Ganga river here is a lifeline and a symbol of devotion for millions.
00:23To preserve its purity, the Government of India launched the Namami Ganga Mission, a flagship initiative to protect the Ganga from pollution.
00:38Under this mission, three sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 38.5 MLD have been established in Rishikesh and Muniki Rethi.
00:48Additionally, two more STPs of 8 MLD and 300 KLD are proposed.
00:56As part of this effort, a 7.5 MLD STP was commissioned in 2020 at Chandreshwarnagar, treating around 7.5 million litres of sewage daily from households across the city.
01:12Based on MBBR, i.e. Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor Technology, this STP reflects modern, sustainable engineering.
01:26Notably, it is India's first four-storey STP, built in under 900 square meters, showcasing high-efficiency in limited space.
01:38With advanced water purification systems, the plant ensures only treated water flows into the Ganga, helping safeguard the environment today and securing clean water for future generations.

01:59a modern laboratory has
02:28It's also been set up here where experts monitor the quality of both incoming and treated water on a daily basis.
02:40All data is uploaded to an online monitoring system which is regularly reviewed by the central and state pollution control boards, NMCG, SMCG and other relevant agencies.
02:53We have in-house lab reports, in-house lab testing and CPCB and UKPCB also check the state PCB.
03:05In addition, there are third-party reports of NABL, which are aggregated labs,
03:10so that we can ensure that the quality of the quality is right to dispose.
03:18Developed under the Namami Kanga mission,
03:21the STP in Chandreshwar Nagar plays a crucial role in managing sewage and waste.
03:28It not only prevents pollution of the Kanga,
03:31but also contributes to a cleaner environment for local residents.
03:36When it was a plant, there was a lot of damage.
03:43It was a lot of damage.
03:44It was a lot of damage.
03:45And when it was a STP plant, it was very beautiful.
03:48When it was a plant, there was a lot of damage in Ganga.
03:51It was very beautiful.
03:52It was very good.
03:53And the plant is still working in 2020.
03:56The people who operate the plant,
03:59all are working on the plants.
04:00But it will not be solved with the plant.
04:03It will not be solved.
04:04It will not be solved with the people,
04:06the people, the young people,
04:07the people,
04:08it will not be understood by themselves.
04:09If we put the plant in our house,
04:11we will clean it up until the STP.
04:14Where will the STP be done?
04:15We are not able to understand the soil the plant,
04:18or put it in water.
04:20The 7.5 MLD STP in the Chandreshwarnagar area of Rishikesh is not just a technical project
04:30but a meaningful effort to preserve the sacred flow of the Ganga.
04:35The positive results of this initiative are already evident, therefore there is a sincere
04:41appeal to the public to refrain from dumping dry waste into drains or littering along the
04:48riverbanks.
04:53A clean and safe Ganga is the foundation of a prosperous nation.
04:58The purity of the Ganga is not only our cultural heritage but also our responsibility we owe
05:05to future generations.
