00:00Look up, look down, look all around. Up in the air or on the ground. Come for a walk, come for a ride. There's so much to see, so come outside.
00:27You'll see us in a building. You'll find us in a wall, sitting side by side and row on row. We come in different colours. Some are yellow, some are red, or brown, or white. What are we? Do you know? We're bricks.
00:57Hello, my dears. I'm doing some building today. Filling up a hole in the wall with some new bricks.
01:12This is my mortar. It's made of sand, cement, and water.
01:19It'll dry like glue does and hold the bricks together.
01:26Oh, look. Pippi's building a wall too.
01:41Look at the pattern the bricks are making.
02:00They don't sit one above the other, like this. They sit in between. Like this. That makes the wall much stronger.
02:15Oh. I've only got one brick left. I didn't buy enough. How silly.
02:26Well, we'll just have to go and buy some more. Pippi, it's time to fly.
02:33Bye!
03:03Look, Dippin, there's a clay quarry.
03:28Can you see the digger?
03:29It's digging clay out of the ground and putting it on the back of that lorry.
03:47There goes the lorry.
03:49It's taking the clay to a factory.
03:53It looks like a toy from up here, doesn't it?
03:58There's the factory.
04:03And that's where we're going.
04:07Because this is where they use the clay to make bricks.
04:20First of all, the clay is crushed into small pieces by two giant wheels.
04:33It travels on through some more crushers and then it's mixed with water.
04:38This makes the clay soft.
04:42Now it's ready to use.
04:53They roll the clay in some sand and sawdust so it isn't too sticky.
04:58Then it's put in a brick-shaped box called a mould.
05:04A strip of wire scrapes off the top.
05:09They're tipped out of their moulds and there are the bricks.
05:15Yes.
05:16But they're not finished yet.
05:17Sometimes they make bricks by hand.
05:18Would you like to have a go, Andy Mabel?
05:20Oh, yes, please.
05:35Take some clay, roll it in the sand and sawdust.
05:50Enter the mould, slice off the top, and there's the brick.
06:13But it isn't finished yet.
06:15What?
06:18What's the matter?
06:26Thank you, Pippin, but I have been making a brick.
06:31Of course, making bricks one by one takes a very long time.
06:37There's a machine here which can do the job much faster.
06:42It does it by making one long bar of clay.
06:48Then wire cutters cut it up into bricks.
07:01But they're not finished yet.
07:04All the bricks must go into the dryer.
07:14They'll stay in the dryer for several days.
07:19Then they all go into the kiln.
07:22It's like a very hot oven.
07:25Look, you can see the fire burning inside.
07:31Being baked in a kiln makes the bricks hard and strong.
07:40Now they're all finished.
07:45These are the bricks I'm having to finish building my wall.
07:48I think they're just the right colour.
07:50Pippin, stop it.
07:52Pippin, stop it.
07:53You'll break your teeth.
07:55They're much too heavy to carry.
07:58They'll be delivered to our house on a lorry.
08:02Most of these bricks are going to building sites.
08:06There's one not far from here where they're building houses.
08:12We'll go and have a look.
08:27Now Pippin, stay close by my side.
08:30This is a very dangerous place.
08:32Hello.
08:38Houses usually have two walls.
08:43One on the inside, made of concrete blocks, and one on the outside, made of bricks.
08:50And the air in the space between them helps to keep the house warm in the winter and cool
08:56in the summer.
08:59It's the bricklayer's job to build the walls.
09:05Can I have a go?
09:06You might.
09:11I've always wanted to build a house.
09:24This reminds me of the three little pigs.
09:27The first little pig built a house of straw, with a chimney, a window, and a little red door.
09:40Help!
09:41Help!
09:42Help!
09:43Help!
09:44Help!
09:45The wolf wants to eat me!
09:46Help!
09:47Help!
09:48Help!
09:49Help!
09:50Help!
09:51Help!
09:52The wolf wants to eat me!
09:53Help!
09:54Help!
09:55Help!
09:56Help!
09:57The wolf wants to eat me!
09:58The third little pig said,
09:59Who needs sticks?
10:00I've built me a house with the very best bricks.
10:02The third little pig said, Straw's no good.
10:03I've built me a house with sticks of wood.
10:04I've built me a house with sticks of wood.
10:05I've built me a house with sticks of wood.
10:06A hungry wolf came prowling through the town.
10:07And he huffed, and he puffed till he went white-read.
10:10He huffed, and he puffed and he banged his head.
10:28the town. And he huffed and he puffed till he went white red. He huffed and he puffed
10:34and he banged his head. He huffed and he puffed, then he growled and said, I'd rather make
10:41do with jam and bread. Cause he couldn't blow the little house down. La-dee-da, la-dee-da.
10:50No, he couldn't blow the little house down.
10:58Thank you. I hope I haven't spoiled your wall. Come on, Pip... Pippin? Where's Pippin?
11:09Pippin! Pippin!
11:23Pippin!
11:24Pippin!
11:25Pippin!
11:26Pippin!
11:28Pippin!
11:29Pippin!
11:30Pippin!
11:31Oh, my God.
12:01Oh, Pippin.
12:21I told her to stay by my side.
12:26Those building sites are such dangerous places.
12:31Oh, Pippin.
12:33Oh, Pippin.
12:34Oh, Pippin.
12:35Oh, Pippin.
12:36Oh, Pippin.
12:37Oh, Pippin.
12:38Oh, Pippin.
12:39Oh, Pippin.
12:40Oh, Pippin.
12:41Oh, Pippin.
12:42Oh, Pippin.
12:54Auntie Mabel.
12:55Yes?
12:56We've got some bricks for you.
12:57Oh.
12:59Thank you and something else. That's yours. I think really what's that?
13:19Oh, thank goodness. I was so worried
