Worshippers outside Westminster Cathedral are praying the new pope will be “a person of the people” as they welcomed the election of Pope Leo XIV.

00:00I was surprised that it was quite so quickly decided. I thought it might go on a little bit longer and obviously it wasn't a sort of bookies pundit of candidates of that. We seem to fall apart at the start and I think it's an interesting title of Leo and going back I guess to Leo the Great.

01:08about the new Pope I think he'll follow his practices and his policies and I'm glad he can speak a few languages because he'll be better able to communicate with people.
01:26I thought Francis was an inspiration. He was a person of the people and of the world and I think looking after the marginals, the poor, the climate was exactly the sort of direction that the church should be taking interest in.
01:50But particularly the world is so stressed and traumatised and needs so much love and the church ought to be leading it there.
02:00Westminster Cathedral is of course the largest Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales and is also the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster who was of course part of that latest conclave in the Vatican City.
