00:00Taking over the world? Yeah, he can give that a whirl.
00:03Here's a look at the Mattel Mass Universe Origins Mattel Creations Hurricane Hordak,
00:07Ruthless Leader with the Wicked Whirling Weapons.
00:10The Wicked Whirling Weapons
00:40I think if you're a member of the Horde and you're wondering what's the deal with all these budget cuts as of late,
00:54maybe start asking Hordak what's the deal with his golden armor that he's wearing.
00:58Before that we look at his golden armor, let's take the tape measure and see how tall Hurricane Hordak stands.
01:03He seems to be, for the most part, using the same body as the original Hordak,
01:07and we'll kind of discuss the details in a second.
01:10This figure is still available as of right now at Mattel Creations site for $38.
01:13Now, granted, that's $38 Canadian dollars.
01:16As a Canadian collector, I've got to say, like, $38 for a figure to buy online and then only just to pay the shipping on top of that.
01:22Mattel isn't gouging, I think, the prices.
01:24$38 is pretty reasonable to get a figure like this.
01:27Hordak, though, because he's using about the same size style of body, is going to stand the same.
01:31He's 6 inches in height, or roughly about 15 centimeters tall.
01:34Well, this little piggy went with a cape.
01:36This little piggy decided to go with a buzzsaw blade.
01:39Booked end on both sides of Hurricane Hordak would be the original Hordak.
01:43Granted, though, I'm actually just borrowing over the head that came in clear with the deluxe release of Hurricane, or buzzsaw Hordak.
01:49Similar style of bodies.
01:50Although, you know, I said that, though, and it does look like Hurricane Hordak is just a tad bit shorter.
01:55I think it may have more just to do with the fact that the figure is also, he doesn't have a cape, and that might just be the thing that's also throwing off his proportions.
02:02As of late, we've also looked at the original concept sketch art version of Hordak, even though he doesn't look at all like the other Hordaks behind him.
02:09And seeing as this one's also using VUM, let's also bring in another figure that happens to have that as well.
02:14Here's what the figure looks like with the Mattel Creations exclusive hero.
02:18Hordak includes the following things.
02:20First, a mini-comic.
02:21Although, I know it does say now, Eye of the Storm.
02:24I have to admit, though, the symbol placed in the worst of places on the front of the torso for Cyclone had me first reading this as Eye of Theo Storm.
02:32Who's Theo?
02:34Then I realized I was a big idiot.
02:36What's also rather interesting, though, is not just the placement of Cyclone's symbol, but that Hordak is featured on the front and nowhere in the comic is an appearance of She-Ra.
02:44You would think, though, that he's the big baddie of Etheria.
02:47And yet, though, She-Ra, mostly it's all Eternia's characters, like He-Man, obviously.
02:52Even, like, Teela and Man-at-Arms are all there.
02:55And yet, no one else is featured from Etheria itself.
02:58What's also making an appearance, too, is the alternate portrait, though, for Hordak, which is actually based on the original concept design of the character.
03:04No, no, not the other one that we've already looked at this week.
03:07We'll kind of talk more about that in a moment.
03:08There's no advertisements at all on the back of the comic, although, again, we've flipped through the comic itself.
03:13Yeah, sure, yeah, Sorceress makes an appearance.
03:15There's He-Man, there's Teela, there's Man-at-Arms, even Clamp-Champ, even Cyclone make all appearances.
03:20And yet, no one from Etheria.
03:23That's just really strange to me.
03:24The actual comic illustrations look fantastic.
03:27And I've got to say, like, that's a neat look to Hordak, even though I'm more used to the idea of Hordak having a collar piece.
03:33There's something to be said, though, about that mohawk that looks really cool on the character.
03:36So let's move the comic out of the way.
03:38Eye of Theo Storm.
03:40Stupid.
03:41What's not stupid, though, is the fact that the figure does have quite a lot of cool accessories.
03:44If you're familiar with the original 80s release of Hurricane Hordak, which basically had a lot less accessories,
03:50he has all the same working gimmick, although now he has all these additional gadgets that he has included as well.
03:57So the main thing that does basically all the work is the figure does have a cannon arm.
04:01The cannon arm has a little spinning disc there on the top.
04:04I mean, obviously, it's not doing much of anything right now, but when you take any of the following things and snap them on the end,
04:10all those things will take a twirl.
04:12Like, for example, the figure does have a claw.
04:14Now, I know in some of the images we've seen of Hordak holding up a boulder, I wouldn't recommend that myself.
04:19I would imagine that that boulder doesn't have any weight at all.
04:22It's probably made of styrofoam.
04:23But this basically would just attach onto the end, and then, of course, this would spin back and forth.
04:27I'm not going to do it completely all the way.
04:29The figure does also have kind of a bolo snare.
04:32It has the ball bearings on the end.
04:34Really nice molding there to all of them.
04:36The thing that's kind of neat about them is, hopefully you guys can see,
04:39it almost looks like there's some electricity the way they've sculpted on the ends of the balls.
04:43And then he has one that looks a little bit more like the Hordak symbol, bat wings on either side.
04:48And how these all work is basically you just take the pegs provided,
04:52push them just far enough in there that they're going to be able to spin and not fall out.
04:55And then you take this little disc and spin, spin, spin.
04:59And that's all you have to really do.
05:00You would take that idea, and then you would just rinse and repeat with whatever one that you want to then use.
05:05So let's just attach this one.
05:06We'll pop the claw one in next.
05:09And again, that spins really well.
05:10You can either spin it by hand, or you can spin it on the disc here.
05:13And then lastly, I think this one probably is my favorite.
05:17It's one of the reasons why I'm leaving it for last.
05:19And again, that either spins by hand and spins really quite fast.
05:24Or again, you can spin it just by this.
05:26Hordak, in order to get this on this, what you have to do is take this and pop that off first.
05:31So we'll go ahead and just attach his hand, put it at least in a place where I'm not going to lose it.
05:36And then on the inside, you can see that there's a red peg.
05:39It's not, I mean, it's pretty hard to miss that.
05:41And that just plugs onto the end of his hand.
05:43And you want to push it at least that you can feel it, not snap.
05:47Snap is really the last thing you really want to have it hear or have it heard.
05:51But basically, it just pops in place.
05:53And then that arm is going to be going anywhere.
05:56Now, being that they're also using a universally sized peg that is compatible with all the other Origins figures,
06:01you would then be safe to assume that you could then use this arm attachment with all the other Hordaks.
06:06Because again, like the hands are going to be exactly the same.
06:09It spins really well, though.
06:10And again, you can also have it above his head looking like he's flying out of the way like the Penguin in a Batman movie.
06:17Again, one other thing the figure does also come included with, if I just move everything out of the way,
06:21is an alternate head portrait.
06:23Now, we actually do see this on the back of the packaging.
06:26Let me just grab the packaging here, just kind of bring it into the frame.
06:29There's Hordak there on the back.
06:31Now, the head isn't just something that Mattel created for specifically this release.
06:35This Hordak head sculpt is actually one of the original designs of the character.
06:39Now, I know you're thinking, well, wait a minute.
06:41Wasn't this guy one of the original designs?
06:43He was one of many.
06:44I think Hordak probably had about three or four iterations of him before they settled on the look that he has here.
06:49This was one of the looks, ideally, though.
06:51And he does have this cool looking spiked mohawk.
06:54The spikes themselves are made of softer plastic.
06:56So you don't have to worry that they're going to be breaking it all.
06:58I think that's a really cool looking head.
06:59Now, you could choose to have this displayed on the body of this figure's body,
07:03which, well, this as the head on this figure's body.
07:06I'll be doing that in a second.
07:07But if, to bring back this one, this is the original concept art Skeletor, concept art Hordak.
07:14In the review of him, I actually did make mention that one of the reasons why I did want to pick up this Hordak was I had other plans for him.
07:20If you look at the body and you look at the coloring of his head, it's pretty much the exact same color.
07:25So you're probably already seeing where I'm going to be going with this.
07:27Hordak, as a hurricane release, I'm probably just going to be keeping with the defaulted head.
07:32Because, I mean, as a toy, I would really like to display these things on shelves as the toys, as the way they would have originally looked in the 80s.
07:39So I don't have necessarily a plan for this head sculpt.
07:42But I do now.
07:43What I'm going to do is I'm going to pop the head off this body.
07:47I'm going to take the alternate portrait.
07:49And we're going to snap it into place.
07:50And, hey, wouldn't you know it, we got ourselves a classic look.
07:53Even though, again, this isn't really the design of the character from back then.
07:56But, like, to put this guy on the shelf, yeah.
07:59We never had a toy that looked like this from the 80s.
08:01So this, to me, is going to be my Origins Hordak.
08:04Kind of the way that he originally, before, of course, he took over the Horde.
08:08Nice use of, then, this body.
08:10And, admittingly, though, that's a much better looking head sculpt than the original concept art design of the character.
08:15Now, unfortunately, it just means I'm going to have this head.
08:17I'm going to have to put it in a bag with all the other Master Universe Origins body parts that I'm not using currently.
08:22But that's going to be the way I'm going to be displaying the figure on the shelf.
08:25Now, you don't have to do that.
08:26I mean, obviously, it's going to involve spending the extra cost to get the two-pack set of this and Grizzlor.
08:32But if he happened to pick up that Hordak and kind of thought the same way as me, like, it's not a great-looking head sculpt.
08:37The rest of the body is kind of interesting enough.
08:39Use the head that's going to come in clue with Hurricane Hordak.
08:42Anyways, though, let's go ahead and just take the head off this guy.
08:45We'll just put the body, decapitated body, off to the side here for a second.
08:49Let's pick up Hordak here.
08:50So, like, the head sculpt, from what I can see, seems to be the original Hordak.
08:54So, let's just, where's the original Hordak?
08:56I'm actually using pretty much the exact same, well, it's the same head for the most part, but I'm using this head for my Buzzsaw release.
09:02I use, then, the Smiling Hordak, which, where's the Smiling Hordak? Just over here.
09:06The Smiling Hordak, usually from my regular Origins Hordak figure.
09:09And then I'm just using, then, the more neutral expression for the Hurricane, or the Buzzsaw Hordak.
09:15So, you can see, there's the two gimmicked Hordaks.
09:17Just put this guy down for a second.
09:19I've already done, obviously, reviews here of Buzzsaw Hordak, but basically, you just open up the front chest cavity here,
09:24which, I don't know why I'm having such a hard time.
09:26There we go.
09:27Just open that up, and you just push the button on the back.
09:30He shoots a Buzzsaw blade all across the room.
09:33I've had, I don't know how many times I've lost this blade.
09:35I had to go back and try to find it before the cat did.
09:37But that just closes up.
09:39And then, again, there's your two gimmick.
09:42I don't want to say gimmick.
09:43Gimmick sort of just devalues the character.
09:46But that's the two unique, special features Hordaks versus the original Hordak we've gotten.
09:52Obviously, this one doesn't have the cape either.
09:53So, we'll just move that off to the side, bring back in here.
09:56Here's the Hurricane Hordak.
09:57Now, this one is also having the VUM.
09:59VUM basically stands for Vacuum Metalizing, which is kind of strange because it should really just be VM.
10:04But I guess they felt the need to take the U from Vacuum.
10:07Anyways, Vacuum Metalizing is basically where they take the process of taking a thin layer of metal, and then they put it on the plastic surface.
10:16Hero had something similar also as well.
10:18And that's probably one of the reasons why I brought this guy at the beginning for the comparisons.
10:21Not that really Hero would ever make the appearances in Etheria, nor Battle Hordak for that matter.
10:26But being that both of them also had the VUM metal, I thought it was probably a good idea to bring them in.
10:30And the only thing that kind of concerns me, though, is when you're using something like Vacuum Metalizing, I mean, I'm sure that's still something.
10:38I don't think they've perfected the art where this isn't going to chip over time, as it certainly is brand new and getting out of the packaging.
10:45I haven't had any issues with chipping, flaking, or anything for that matter.
10:48But I would think, though, that over time, whether they've even, I mean, the actual technology of doing this, I would imagine, is a little bit more advanced from something from the 80s.
10:57But still, you've got to think that something like this is going to flake over time.
11:00It hasn't happened with Hero.
11:01I mean, again, I haven't had Hero really long out of the packaging.
11:05But again, I do worry that that's going to be an issue caused down the road.
11:09He is also stamped on the back as 2024, even though this guy was technically released in 2025, while still sporting, again, the regular neutral expression Hordak.
11:19Again, you can either go that route, or again, if you want to just pop the head off and replace it with the alternate.
11:24Hey, and you know, again, like, that looks good, too.
11:27If that's the kind of look that you want to go with your Hordak, by all means, all the power to you.
11:31The rest of his body is standard Hordak, in the sense that he's got the gray limbs.
11:34He's got still the band on the side for the Horde logo.
11:38He's still got, for the most part, like the loincloth.
11:40You know what?
11:40Let's bring in a regular Hordak.
11:43So, like, you can see, like, the legs seem to be the same.
11:46The boots, probably the same as well.
11:47And even the arms, even though, obviously, I've just swapped it out with the cannon arm.
11:51I mean, they look to be identical, too, at least in the exact same coloring of the gray plastic.
11:56What's missing, though, is obviously there's no cape.
11:58There's no cape at all on Hurricane Hordak.
12:00The original toy never had that either.
12:02But, yeah, he looks, he's a really fun-looking figure.
12:05Being that he also is using the same master's body, he's going to have the same levels of possibility.
12:10While we're still sticking with this head sculpt, the head's going to be in a bowl joint.
12:13The ears, by the way, are really soft plastic, too.
12:15Head's going to rotate all the way around.
12:17You can have him looking down and looking up and all the things in between.
12:20Hurricane's body does rotate back and forth as well.
12:23No, that does not operate the gimmick.
12:25It's just the fact that I'm banging it as I'm turning the torso around.
12:29Speaking of turning things around, the arms do rotate all the way around.
12:32Sometimes they do get a little hung up there on his armor.
12:35You can still, though, pull off a T-pose.
12:37No issues there.
12:38He has a bend in his elbow.
12:39A bend in his elbow.
12:41And those arms can also rotate back and forth.
12:43Technically, all the way around.
12:44Hands rotate also all the way around with a hinge back and forth.
12:47You can choose, again, to have either the figure displayed with the hand or, you know, again,
12:51like if he's going to be marketed as Hurricane Hordak, I can't imagine anybody that's not
12:55going to have this hand bagged away somewhere and just have the figure displayed instead
12:59with one of his spinning weapons of destruction.
13:02As for, again, his legs, they split out.
13:04There's ball joints working behind the scenes there.
13:06Take the legs, move forward.
13:07Take the legs and move them back.
13:09And a bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
13:11Single hinge for the knees.
13:12I still find that, I don't know, like, you've got to think that mold degradation over time
13:17or just the reusing of mold from time and time again has caused now loose knees.
13:23And I've noticed that with a lot of the new released of Master's figures, Master Universe
13:26Origins figures are now starting to develop loose knees, getting them immediately out of
13:29the packaging.
13:30For the little time that I've had this guy in the box, I would say like maybe 45, maybe
13:3445 minutes to an hour, he should not have the looseness in his knees already.
13:38The figure does have a swivel down below for his horde boots.
13:42Up and down, he goes with his webbed-looking feet.
13:45And there's also an ankle pivot.
13:46You can move them back and forth as well.
13:49All in all, I'm really happy that I had the chance to pick this guy up.
13:51You know, I jumped quickly at trying to get to the listing for the fear that this guy was
13:55going to be selling out right away.
13:57Of all the Mattel Creations releases, I honestly really thought that Hurricane Hordak was going
14:02to sell out just like that.
14:04As soon as the listing would have gone online, scalpers, people would have gone in there and tried
14:07to scoop up as many as they could.
14:09There's still, though, a limit of three per customer.
14:11But even still, I mean, there's always ways to get around that.
14:14I really honestly thought that this guy was going to sell it.
14:16And yet, though, Hurricane Hordak, for the price that they're selling him for, which I
14:19think is still a steal, is still available on Mattel Creations site.
14:23If you guys were a fan, obviously, of the original 80s Hordak.
14:26Yeah, a good chance now to get this guy.
14:29Again, like with the two different alternate head sculpts, both of them are superior.
14:33And in no ways would I really want to put any of them back in a bag or back in the packaging.
14:37I mean, even though really I did take this head sculpt off, this probably will be the
14:41one that's going to be going back to the body.
14:42And then, of course, you're asking yourself, well, if you're going to be putting that back
14:46on the body, well, what are you going to do with it?
14:47Well, obviously, I have myself now the body of the sketched concept art.
14:52As somebody that really is a collector that likes to pick up the figure and have them displayed
14:55the way they get out of the packaging, it does kind of bother me.
14:58I'm going to be putting this decapitated head back in a bag, and it's not really going
15:02to have much of a purpose.
15:04But certainly, though, the body is going to have a purpose.
15:06I'm going to be using this body for this head sculpt because it's too good of a head,
15:10I think, to put back in the packaging.
15:13Hurricane Hordak, like I said, is still available right now on Mattel Creations site.
15:16He's selling just a little over $30.
15:18I say that as a Canadian collector.
15:21Not a bad price at all for how cool of a figure Hurricane Hordak ended up being.
15:25I should really correct myself.
15:26The original 80s release of Hurricane Hordak did have three spinning weapons of mass destruction.
15:32What is new, though, on this figure is obviously the brand new mold, with incorporating some
15:35brand new articulation, not to mention a brand new head sculpt.
15:39The new head sculpt isn't necessarily new in the sense that the idea wasn't created
15:43solely for this release.
15:44They actually took it back from the pages of the sketched versions of Hordak, the original
15:48concept ideas of the character, and they found a way to incorporate with this release.
15:52It's clever because it still gives us now a chance to use another head of Hordak if you
15:57don't like the color head that he's normally used to having.
16:00Now, for me, I'm not going to be using the head that you're seeing right now in the rotisserie.
16:03I'm choosing instead to go with the Mohawk head and swapping it out with the body of the
16:08concept Hordak, which is kind of fitting enough because both figures of this Hordak head and
16:13the original body of the other one that got packed with Grizzlor, both of them in theory
16:17are concept Hordaks, so I don't feel like I'm really out of place by changing the head
16:22with the very uninteresting one that he started with in that two-pack.
16:26This Hurricane Hordak does have, again, the spinning feature.
16:29You can either spin it by hand or you can spin it by a disc.
16:31Both ways, though, it spins quite fast.
16:34The figure, again, is using VUM plastic, so again, I don't know the longevity of this
16:38unless I can jump into a time machine and speed a long time by like five to ten years to tell
16:43you whether that plastic is going to start to chip away the metal.
16:46It's a very thin layer of metal that they put on top of the plastic.
16:50If it's going to still have the same issues, now, I've seen several used versions of Hurricane
16:55Hordak, and usually they're always the ones that kind of suffer the most.
16:58When you start adding VAC chrome to any plastic figures in the 80s or otherwise, try to find
17:03a mint or a decent-looking release of that figure.
17:06A lot of times, collectors are usually selling them, and that's the one thing.
17:09On a Hurricane Hordak, trying to get the armor to look pristine is a really hard thing
17:13to find.
17:13You're not going to have as hard of a time to find Hurricane Hordak now.
17:17This figure, at least, the modern release of him, is available right now on Mattel Creations.
17:21The good news is, he's still available.
17:23So, for those that jumped the gun and bought a couple of these, I actually bought two.
17:27I bought them with the idea that these things were going to be selling out right away.
17:31I also had plans to have one of the Hordaks displayed on the shelf and keep the other
17:34one sealed away.
17:35So, yeah, if the plastic happens to chip over time, I've still got one that's still sealed
17:40away in his cardboard prison.
17:42But, yeah, he is available still right now, as of right now, on Mattel Creations site for
17:45a little over $30.
17:47Speaking solely as a Canadian collector, it's going to be a little bit less if you're a U.S.
17:50collector.
17:50But if you guys are interested, that's the place where you'd be able to find him.
17:54What do you guys think of Hurricane Hordak?
17:55Let me know down below in the comment section.
17:56Do you guys also like the idea that they found a way to incorporate the original sketched concept
18:01head sculpt?
18:01Are you planning to display it with the figure, or are you going to beeline it back to the
18:05OG look?
18:06For me, I'm going to go with OG, because when it comes to displaying my Master's figures
18:09on the shelves, especially with the Origins, I like to kind of have them displayed the
18:14way that they look like the original vintage toys.
18:16So, any alternate portraits, the only one I haven't yet done that for is Leech.
18:20Leech is, I think, the only figure from my Master's Universe Origins figures that I didn't

18:29If you guys did enjoy this video, why don't you do it a salt and throw it a like.
18:33If you guys want to stick around for more so, and I certainly hope so.
18:35Even though we are wrapping up things right now for Spinning Hordak, there will be more
18:39Master's Universe figure reviews coming your way for the rest of this week.
18:43As always, thanks for watching.
18:44See you guys next time.
