Fox News TV - 'The Five' co-hosts discuss Democrats' response to former President Joe Biden's alleged comeback.
Transcript
00:00Hello, everyone. I'm Katie Pavlich, along with Rosanna Scotto, Harold Ford Jr., Joey Jones, and Greg Gutfeld.
00:06It's 5 o'clock in New York City, and this is The Five.
00:16A New Jersey mayor arrested after he joined three Democratic members of Congress who broke into a New Jersey ICE facility
00:24that holds some of the very violent migrant offenders, including an MS-13 gang member.
00:29We'll fill you in on that later.
00:31But first, the man who destroyed the Democrats.
00:35Joe Biden's return to The View was a train wreck for a party that's desperate to move on.
00:41At one point, poor Joe was asked about his mental decline and needed Dr. Jill to swoop right in
00:47and save him like the Easter bunny from the ladies of The View.
00:51What is your response to these allegations, and are these sources wrong?
00:55They're all wrong.
00:57There's nothing to sustain that.
01:00And so we went to work, and we got it done.
01:03And, you know, one of the things that...
01:06Well, I'm talking too long.
01:08Well, and Alyssa, you know, one of the things I think is that the people who wrote those books
01:13were not in the White House with us, and they didn't see how hard Joe worked every single day.
01:21If you look at things today, give me Joe Biden any time.
01:26Well, the left may be ready to move on, but the stench of Biden's failed four years in office
01:31still lingers in the air.
01:33But some say enough is enough.
01:35The Obama pod bros are going nuclear on Sleepy Joe.
01:38He shouldn't have run for a second term, and when he did run for a second term, he should
01:44have stepped down much earlier after the debate, and his close advisors shouldn't have told
01:49him to run again, and they shouldn't have told him he was going to win.
01:52This media tour is about Joe Biden.
01:54It's not about Donald Trump.
01:55It's about Joe Biden defending himself and his legacy.
01:59He's made it about himself.
02:00Yeah.
02:00And that, I think, was something that he made the last year of his presidency about.
02:04It's not something you're going to solve on The View.
02:06And so it's like, step back.
02:08If you really, truly believe that the work you did was good, then you have to trust history
02:12to judge it correctly.
02:14So, Greg, the Bidens go on The View to basically gaslight and say everything was fine still,
02:20even though we watched and know it wasn't.
02:22But, you know, these guys are talking about 2024.
02:25The mistake was 2020.
02:27The biggest mistake the Dems ever made was run that guy, picking him and letting him,
02:32letting himself expose the shallow and useless nature of their party.
02:38He will go down as the worst president in history, no question.
02:42The party was already a mess, but they picked the worst possible person to front it.
02:47It's like Mattel making Casey Anthony, their CEO, a disaster.
02:51And I think we're letting the media off too lightly.
02:53Right now, they're saying, and you can hear it with those guys,
02:56hey, it was the White House who kept us from knowing Joe was a mess,
03:01as if journalists were under house arrest.
03:03You know, it's like the mission of their job, which is actually to report.
03:06They can't do that anymore.
03:08They only tell the story.
03:09But they wouldn't let us.
03:12So instead, they have a billion-dollar company behind them.
03:14They have all the tools needed to tell a story.
03:17But you know what?
03:18The White House would be upset with them if they did it.
03:20So they didn't.
03:21And that's on the White House's fault.
03:22No, you're a journalist.
03:23You're supposed to report things, not just tell stories based on your assumptions.
03:28It used to be if you told a reporter that you can't report on something,
03:32that would energize them to report on it.
03:35But now they've been reduced to stenographers.
03:37They don't chase a story.
03:39They tell a story.
03:40Or they repurpose it from another story.
03:43This is actually the biggest political story of a generation,
03:46but they avoided it because they didn't want to feel ashamed about it.
03:49And I get how they want to move on.
03:51Who wouldn't?
03:53When a criminal is arrested, he'd love everyone to move on.
03:57But the criminal doesn't get to decide when you move on.
03:59We do.
04:01And again, this cover-up merits the kind of scrutiny
04:03that should have been there in the first place
04:05if the party had simply done the work at the start,
04:08paid attention to the voters and not to the activists,
04:12stopped indulging the false promise of identity politics
04:15and actually looked outward at the world.
04:17They wouldn't be in this problem.
04:18They're still in this problem.
04:19So, Joey, I remember the Democrats doing everything they could
04:22to not have a primary process.
04:24They were keeping candidates off the ballot,
04:26using lawfare to go against RFK Jr.
04:29So the Obama aides trying to argue that it was just all Joe Biden
04:34and not the Democratic Party and the DNC doing this
04:37seems a little bit of a rewrite of history.
04:39Yeah, that's what's so funny about them getting upset at David Hogg
04:42for running primary.
04:43It's like you've always had your thumb on the scale.
04:45That's your problem.
04:46That's why you don't have a deep bench, because you've gotten in between anyone who could.
04:50I mean, could you imagine someone taking the Democrat Party by storm
04:53the way Trump took the Republican Party by storm in 2016?
04:56The way it exists now, it probably couldn't happen.
04:59And most Republicans would sit there and say,
05:02that's the best thing that ever happened to the party.
05:04It was the only thing that could have saved it from the Bush years
05:07and the fizzle out of the Tea Party.
05:09But as far as Biden coming back out there, I mean,
05:12I wonder if Trump sent him a gift basket or, you know,
05:15like, because this is the best thing that could happen.
05:16There are a lot of headlines right now.
05:18Pakistan and India.
05:19There's Ukraine and Russia.
05:20There are a lot of things that Democrats could pretend to be upset about
05:24and say that President Trump isn't doing well.
05:26But instead, their podcast and their biggest television show
05:29are talking about Biden again.
05:31Harold, I know that you have been a proponent of moving on from the Bidens for a long time.
05:36They were back this week.
05:38Your thoughts on them getting back on the national stage and telling the story this way?
05:42It's good to be back around the table.
05:44I think you said it well.
05:46He lost the race.
05:47I think one of the reasons he's probably out these days is because Biden,
05:52that is because the books are coming out and he wants to show that he was not out of it.
05:57He said when he ran in 2020, Greg, that he would be a transitional figure.
06:01He wanted to beat Donald Trump and move the country to a new generation of leadership.
06:07And I think a lot of people took him at his word, and that didn't happen.
06:10I think Democrats now, I wouldn't respond to him at all.
06:12I think that those guys out there with the podcast, they seem like they've got a good thing going.
06:16I'd be talking about issues.
06:18I mean, what are the priorities of the Democratic Party?
06:20We're about to engage in a real debate around taxes.
06:23Who do we want to cut taxes for?
06:24How are we going to stimulate Main Street business growth?
06:27Who do we want to raise taxes on if we have to raise taxes to pay for these things?
06:30President Trump has talked about the need and perhaps the reasons behind taxing people
06:36who are earning multiples of millions of dollars a year to help pay down the debt
06:39and do the things we have to do to provide no taxes on tips and no taxes on overtime.
06:44Those are the things that would be most useful to talk about if you're a Democrat.
06:48And if President Biden wants to continue to go on shows to help himself,
06:53I think one of the guys there at the end said this is all about Biden and not about anything else.
06:57Let him do that.
06:57That will run its course.
06:58Let us go forward with a set of ideas and what our priorities are, laying it up for the country.
07:04So, Rosanna, the Biden is not the only problem brewing inside the Democratic Party.
07:09You also have a number of people on the far left.
07:11And you have James Carville, who sees himself as more of a centrist,
07:15telling them that they need to get out.
07:17Let's take a listen.
07:17God, these people are just helpless.
07:22They cannot be helped.
07:24There's nothing you can do to help them.
07:26They don't want to be helped.
07:28And if they had any guts that start their own God, the political party and get out of ours.
07:34I'm sorry.
07:34So he's specifically referring to people like Congressman Ilhan Omar, Alexander Ocasio-Cortez,
07:41who has been campaigning with Bernie Sanders, may run for president.
07:44So they've got some big issues to work out.
07:46They're still digesting the election.
07:48They still can't believe that the American public went in there at a time when their eggs were too high.
07:54Their gas was too high.
07:57And they were watching their neighborhoods change with the influx of migrants.
08:02And so they don't know how to react to that.
08:04But the Bidens now, they're just trying to save their legacy.
08:08They're trying to get out in front of all these books that are going to drop in the next two weeks.
08:13Jake Tapper is defending his book, which I think is going to be pretty explosive.
08:18He said he spoke to 200 people who had a lot to say in the White House.
08:25They're all Democrats.
08:26They're all Biden lovers.
08:28But that's not enough for Jill Biden.
08:30She thinks that you have to be in, I guess, her bedroom watching Joe work so hard while she read a book.
08:37I think it's funny that the arsonists now, Joey, are the ones who are coming to save the day on this,
08:44saying, look at all these things that were happening that we never want to talk about until we can make money on books.
08:47Yeah, and all the people that are saying that now are the ones that were gaslighting us,
08:51that were telling us what we were seeing was not what we were really seeing.
08:54Kind of the same thing with the riots, mostly peaceful.
08:58Joe Biden was mostly sentient.
09:00Not only that, he was running circles around his staff.
09:03Yes.
09:03So we'll see if they stay on the stage.
09:06Karine Jean-Pierre to go out and be a spokesperson for him.
09:08I think she's done with him as well.
09:10So they're having a rough time keeping some friends.
