00:00The current government and the past government have never had the balls to take on big tech and their scams.
00:06They have not properly regulated them.
00:09They've not done what they need to do, which is make it more expensive for them to publish these scan ads with huge fines and huge levies against them if they do,
00:19than they make from making advertising so easy that anybody can put their adverts on, which means scammers can put them on with impunity.
00:25And we live in a wild west when it comes to scam ads at the moment.
00:30I sued Facebook. It was six years ago I sued Facebook about this.
00:34And we got an out-of-court settlement to set a scam ad charity and to change some of the way Facebook works.
00:39But there are still daily scams with me and Stephen Bartlett and many other people on Facebook, on Instagram, on YouTube, on X, right across the board.
00:49Scams are everywhere. See any advert with me in, I do not talk about crypto.
00:54I do not do advertising. I do not do investing. Please don't touch it.
00:58And, you know, I got off after years of campaigning. No one is looking after you.
01:02You have to look after you. Frankly, any advert you see on social media with a celebrity is facing it or someone famous is facing it.
01:08I just wouldn't touch it. Always go to a separate place. Anything advertising, crypto, do not touch it.
01:14Go. If you want to do crypto, you need to make sure you're doing your research, not just clicking a link on social media.
01:19I'm sorry, that doesn't help the individual, but it's just, I hear it. It breaks my heart.
01:23I don't know how many times I can say this. So let's talk the practicals.
01:27Call your bank. I'm sure you probably haven't talked to your bank.
01:29Remember, everybody, you can dial 159, the diagonal across the keyboard, and that will put you in touch with the system,
01:36which then you tell it your bank and it will put you through.
01:38So you'll know you're not calling the scam line.
01:40Don't trust any other phone numbers that you haven't checked out independently yourself.
01:44Report it to Action Fraud. That's the place you officially report it.
01:49It's like there's equivalent to reporting to the police or consumer advice in Scotland.
01:53It's an online scam. Report it to the Advertising Standards Authority.
01:56If you paid on a card, then try it. If it was a credit card, use Section 75 protection.
02:02Look that up. If it was a debit card, then use chargeback protection.
02:05See if you can get money back that way. Speak to citizens advice.
02:09I'm doing a list. Watch this back so you can get everything in the list.
02:12Speak to citizens advice where you can get one-on-one help where you've been scammed.
02:17Make a financial complaint to the bank. Look up push payment rules.
02:22You're covered up to £85,000 if it's deemed to be an authorised push payment scam
02:28that the bank should be able to give you your money back.
02:31As for debt, separate to getting the money back from the scam, then, again, this is hardcore stuff.
