Layton Williams in tears at family slavery connection discovery Source: BBC
Transcript
00:00When you're a person of colour, you always know that that is probably the eventuality.
00:04But when you actually kind of have it all spelt out to you,
00:07that your family would have, you know, been enslaved, quite frankly,
00:10to actually think about it and to really know their names
00:13and know that they were children growing up in it,
00:17there's so much black power in that.
00:19And I don't think I've been really, really proud of being a person of colour
00:26and really, like, leaning into, like, I'm a beautiful black man
00:31and I'm proud to have come from people who went through that
00:37but kind of came through the other side, and now I'm going to cry.
00:45It's really...
00:47It's really beautiful, and it's important that we don't forget.
00:56Because it's real, and it happened, and it was sad.
01:01And I'm sure it was awful, but we made it here.
