00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Bet and today I am
00:03once again joined by Cooper the dog to explore a little bit of Manchester's
00:08dog-friendly culture. Now it is one of the best cities in the world in terms of
00:12dog-friendly places, making it easy for people to bring their dogs into the city
00:16centre and not have to leave their furry friends at home and today we're going to
00:20go to two more great spots. Previously we've explored some awesome places in
00:25the northern quarter already, notably the Feel Good Club, so time for two more
00:28today. Now at the Manchester World office at the minute we're currently preparing
00:32ourselves for having Cooper for five days in a row at the end of May and we're
00:36going to use that opportunity to explore different areas of the city and try and
00:40find some more dog-friendly places outside of the city centre but for now the
00:44place to be is the northern quarter and specifically Tibb Street. Now not only is
00:50Tibb Street home to some of the most lovely cafes, people, bars and many more
00:56things in Manchester but in this case specifically it has the best dog shop in
01:01Manchester and that is Dog Shop MCR. Dog Shop MCR is not only the perfect one
01:06stock shop for all of your dog related needs but also it has an amazing range of
01:12great treats and rewards for your dog as well. It really is a great shopping
01:16experience. Here's what it looks like inside. Now as I say the Dog Shop MCR has
01:21really cemented itself as the place to go for all of your dog's needs. It has a
01:25wondrous range of things from a bunch of smaller companies. You won't find many of
01:29your big-name brands here. You've got a bunch of well-sourced food, healthy treats
01:35and basically it is every dog owner's dream. It's a small independent shop that
01:39really is worthy of your support and Cooper loved it. So having grabbed a treat for
01:44Coops because after all she is the star today, we're heading just two minutes down the road to the
01:50Social Refuge which is one of the more dog-friendly cafes here in Manchester.
01:54So the Social Refuge has been open now for around a year and a half and it
01:57opened initially as a bookshop in the northern quarter. They were fairly
02:01successful and plan to move somewhere where they could open a bit of a coffee
02:03business on the side and that's exactly what they did move into a bigger space
02:07even than they anticipated apparently. Downstairs is a wonderful area and it has
02:12a stage that they use for poetry readings, comedy nights and screenings of
02:16various films and it has a really friendly vibe. Everyone's very outgoing, very warm,
02:21very welcoming and I've got to say Cooper in particular felt completely at home.
02:25Usually if she's squeaking a toy in a place I feel nothing but shattering
02:29anxiety that she's annoying everyone but in there it was more people giggling
02:33away than shooting me evil looks from across the room. So amongst previous places
02:38that were visited such as Foundation and the Feel Good Club, I really can't
02:42recommend the Dog Shop MCR and the Social Refuge enough. And that's all for now.
02:46Thank you very much for tuning in. We will have Cooper like I say for a whole
02:50week at the end of May so stay tuned for more dog content. Thank you very much for
02:54watching and we'll see you again soon at Manchester World.
