00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10It is Military Monday. We are honoring a military member in our community right now.
00:14I have Brett on the phone. Good morning, Brett. How are you?
00:17Very well.
00:18Well, very cool, man. I'm excited today. We get to honor your dad, Joe.
00:22Why don't you tell us how Joe served in our military?
00:25Joe served in the Vietnam War. He did a tour in Vietnam back in 1968.
00:30All right. Back in 68. And what branch did he serve in?
00:33He was in the Army. He was a mortiman.
00:38Oh, wow. And it said he was drafted when he was 18. Is that right?
00:41That's correct. Young boy.
00:43Let me ask you. I mean, does he ever talk about this with you, of what it was like to be drafted at the age of 18?
00:48And the reason I ask is my dad was drafted at that age as well for the Vietnam War.
00:52But have you ever had conversations with him about that and what that was like?
00:55No, no. He doesn't talk about it at all.
00:58No. Okay. Does he say anything about his service?
01:01Not really. He wrote about it, but never talked about it.
01:06My dad wrote me a note, too, about it, to be honest with you.
01:09Yeah, it's a tough subject to talk about, no doubt about it.
01:12If you wanted people to know something about your dad and you could describe your dad to the world, how would you do that?
01:18Yeah. Loving, fun, caring. He has a lot of great qualities. I admire him. Everybody in the family admires him and is proud of him as well.
01:29That's fantastic, man. And now, did he make a career out of the military or did he just serve and get out?
01:35No, he served and got out.
01:36And what did he end up doing?
01:38He ended up doing a few things. Corrections, probation. He retired from probation. He did quite a few things.
01:46Gotcha. All right. Well, listen, we want to do this. We are so honored that we got to learn about your dad a little bit.
01:53And that was obviously a very tough time in our country's history.
01:58And the fact that he served in Vietnam is so honorable and we're so thankful for his service.
02:03And we want to do this. We want to give you something to give to him.
02:07A $100 gift card from our friends at Stingray Chevrolet.
02:10Small way for us to say thank you for his service. And we appreciate you, Brett.
02:13I appreciate you, JR. Thank you.
02:15My absolute pleasure and my honor, my friend.
02:17Well, listen, if you want to honor someone for Military Monday or First Responder Friday,
