00:00My name is Father Craig Fullard, I'm the parish priest of the St. John Henry Newman Parish.
00:30Okay, thank you. And this morning we've heard very sad and sombre news of the passing of Pope Francis.
00:37It's come as a surprise to quite a few of us because we knew that he wasn't well and of course he was in Rome yesterday.
00:46So could you just explain what happened here this morning at St. Joseph and how the parish is feeling?
00:52Okay, yeah, the news filtered through just before nine o'clock this morning. It was, as you say, very much a shock.
00:59Yes, we all knew that he was ill, but we all saw him yesterday in Rome and we thought we got some more time with him, to be honest.
01:08So it was a shock when the news came through. But straight away people were saying, can we gather to pray?
01:13Can we offer the Mass for him? Can we come and remember him in thanksgiving for that he's given to the Church and indeed to the wider world as well?
01:22We all gather properly at some stage to offer a record Mass for the Holy Father as well.
01:31And we will let you know when that will be. We continue to pray for the repose of his soul.
01:37As we go in the resurrection, the resurrection which we pray is his as well now.
01:43We will sing Jesus Christ's wisdom today.
01:46Hymn number 3 to 2, I think it is in the books.
01:49Hymn number 3 to 2, I think it is in the books.
02:19Hymn number 3 to 3, I think it is in the books.
02:20Yeah, I had the great privilege of meeting him along with my wife about 10 years ago, I think it was.
02:27And we were on a conference and at the end of the conference we were invited to go up and shake hands with the Holy Father and greet him.
02:34It was a very short conversation, he got lots of people to see.
02:37But one of the things he did say to us was, please pray for me, please pray for me.
02:43And from that day till today, and we'll carry on praying for him.
02:49And you were saying to the parishioners here that in addition to the prayers and Mass this morning, that there will be another event, hopefully.
03:00Yeah, there certainly will be.
03:01We'll remember him every day in our prayers.
03:03And of course we wait for the funeral as well, which will take place in Rome.
03:08And we'll offer a special Mass for him as well on that day.
03:12Okay, that's fine.
03:13Thank you so much and thanks for having us.
03:15No problem, no problem.
03:16Oh, when did you hear him every day?
03:18When is that message?
03:19It was Reverend Hannah for that prayer.
03:23We sent a message to everyone this morning and it was shocking, we couldn't believe it.
03:29And, you know, we just ran to the news and we just knew we had to be in church for the Monday Easter.
03:38And then just say some prayers for the Pope.
03:42And just one more question I have for you.
03:47What do you think as a family you will be remembering the Pope Francis?
03:53Yeah.
03:57At the moment, it's just HOLY stands for HOLY is help us to, you know, to reflect on which is humanity and, you know,
04:08especially for the marginalized, I think that's the most that our Pope stands for and, you know, we've all tried to live up to that and leave open hands, you know, high and reach the unreachable and, you know, bring hope to our world.
04:29And, you know, keep the church doors open to as many who wants to come in, to feel loved.
04:37Yeah.
04:38Thank you very much.
04:42Thank you very much.
05:04Of the grace of the Lord, alleluia, our salvation have renewed, alleluia.
