00:00My name is Rich Jones, I'm the local policing sergeant for Telford Town Centre, so I have a team of four officers and one PCSO that covers the town centre, so the nightlife, the shops and also retail firm across Telford.
00:12On average we probably get about 120 reports a month, as I say that's across the whole of Telford, so you're looking at about three or four reports every single day of shoplifting in various different stores, so it is quite a thing for the town centre to deal with.
00:29Some people see it as a victim's crime because it's from a shop rather than actually they're knocking a person over or grabbing it out of their bag, but someone has to pay for them items that are taken, and in the crisis we're in at the moment, the living crisis, that's what is driving prices up.
00:43That's not the only reason, but it does increase the prices for the shop because they have to pay for extra security, better CCTV, or just replacing items that are being taken from you, because we have thefts that can reign in value.
00:57One, the other month, was a £700 coat that was stolen, so again, that is going to impact the store and the staff that work there.
