It's a big deal to get to sail on the sailing where a cruise line names its latest ship.

00:00Hello, cruisers. I am Dan Klein. He is Dennis Post.
00:03We are part of the team at Come Cruise With Me.
00:05We're on the beautiful. We're at the Fizz Bar on MSC World America.
00:10And I thought we would talk a little bit about today about what it's like on a naming sailing.
00:14So this isn't the maiden voyage. This is the naming sailing.
00:18And we've done a few of these. I've done a few of these.
00:21Dennis, when you get on, first of all, who's here?
00:23Why don't you talk a little bit about sort of the dignitaries like Dan Marino is here.
00:27Or rumor has it Gloria Estefan is here later tonight.
00:31You know, who knows? Miami's highlights are here.
00:35But what else usually happens on these sailings?
00:37So a lot of dignitaries come on. Yes, a lot of people, they need to impress.
00:41There's a lot of people that help build this ship or were in the design factors of it.
00:46Media, of course, got to be on here to sell the ship.
00:49And then travel professionals, people that sell the product and learn about it and want to enhance selling it.
00:56So it's a crazy day. You get on the ship at about 10, 10.30 in the morning.
00:59And everyone here has an unlimited beverage package.
01:02That's not true on every cruise line, but on most cruise lines, that is how it works.
01:06So people come on, immediate travel agents, they don't go to the pools, they go to the bars.
01:11So there's been a lot of alcohol consumed by a lot of people.
01:14It is very loud. It is a festive environment.
01:17And at about 5.30 today, they start some kickoffs.
01:20There'll be a cocktail party.
01:22Then there'll be the actual naming ceremony.
01:24This ship's godmother is actually Drew Barrymore, someone we grew up with.
01:29And then there's always a ceremony where they smash a bottle of champagne.
01:33And then the whole night is sort of like party time.
01:35And at about 8 o'clock, some of the people on the ship will get off the ship because they aren't actually coming with us.
01:41And rumor has it there's a drone show tonight.
01:43And I've heard fireworks. Sometimes there's fireworks, sometimes there's not.
01:47Dennis?
01:48Anything else, though?
01:49We're not leaving until we...
01:50The rumor is 3 a.m. and we're going to the private island by 9 a.m.
01:54It's only 60, 70 miles from Miami to the private island, so that's not a big chore for them.
02:00The other thing to know about these sailings is while they're not considered shakedown sailings,
02:05because those of us who are here are all here courtesy of the cruise line,
02:09you're supposed to help them figure out some things that aren't right.
02:12So you're not really supposed to complain if your room's not perfect.
02:15You're supposed to sort of work with them on it.
02:17So this is a real honor to be here.
02:19Again, we're at MSC World America.
02:20I am Dan Klein.
02:21He is Dennis Post.
02:23Come cruise with us soon.
