00:00Hello cruisers, I am Dan Klein, executive editor of Come Cruise With Me.
00:05That is comecruiswith.com, please sign up for our weekly newsletter.
00:08I am next to Dennis Post, the co-owner of Post Car Travel Planning, and we are on deck
00:1215 of the Norwegian Epic.
00:14It's a port day, we're in St. Thomas, and we thought it might be a good idea to talk
00:19a little bit about what you need to bring with you in a Caribbean port.
00:23Mind you, pay attention on your ship, because there could be different rules, but in most
00:27Caribbean ports, this is what you need to get off and on the ship.
00:30Dennis Post, tell them what they need to bring.
00:33You need to have a good form of government ID and your ship sail sign card, or a passport
00:39and your ship sail and sign ID.
00:42That's what you need in the Caribbean.
00:44You want to pay attention if you're under 16 for what the specific rules are.
00:49If you have a passport, bring it.
00:51If you're sailing with a birth certificate, you're going to want to ask, probably you just
00:55need your ship ID, if you're young enough that you don't actually have a government
00:58ID.
00:59There are some other rules.
01:00When you get back on the ship, they're going to put you through a metal detector.
01:04Here's what they're looking for.
01:05Illegal drugs.
01:06You are not allowed to bring food back on the ship.
01:09That is an environmental hazard, so even if you are halfway through your bottle of Coke,
01:14they're going to make you throw that away.
01:16If you buy alcohol, Dennis, what happens?
01:18They do not let you bring alcohol on the ship.
01:20Well, they take it from you temporarily and keep it until the last night of the cruise.
01:24So I know there are some reasons for that.
01:26Well, I think the reason is obvious.
01:28They don't want you buying a bottle of rum in port and then not buying individual rums
01:32on the ship.
01:33They also want to monitor how much alcohol you're drinking just to be safe.
01:36So have a fun port day, but remember, bring your government ID with you, bring your ship
01:41card with you.
01:42But when you are actually in port, and I'm pointing to my chest here, tuck your ship card
01:47into your shirt.
01:48You don't really want to look like a tourist, I'm sorry, you look like a tourist anyway,
01:51but you don't want to 100% prove that you're a tourist.
01:54I am Dan Klein, he is Dennis Post, come cruise with us soon.
