00:00It's Wild 94.1, Joey Franchise here, Mr. Quicksand himself, man, 50, whoa, 50 million views.
00:08I got to do the Dr. Evil pinky today, you know what I mean?
00:11Fajillion, gajillion.
00:14Oh, man, Maure, how you feeling, man? It's a great time. Records going up crazy.
00:18Obviously, the video's doing numbers. Talk to me, bro.
00:21No cap, bro. I'm blessed. Like, I'm super happy.
00:24I woke up today on the good side of the bed, having some good breakfast,
00:27going with some good smooches from the babies, and it's a good day, baby.
00:30Always a good day when that's going on. What'd you have for breakfast?
00:33What's the go-to?
00:35This morning, we had some hash browns, some eggs, and some bacon.
00:39The home fries. Like, when you cut the potatoes up real small, I'm fired, bro.
00:44No cap. No cap. Always hits the spot.
00:48So tell me a little bit about yourself, man. Fayetteville, man, holding it down.
00:51Another Fayetteville star on the rise. What's it like, man?
00:55Coming out the city, having a big record that's actually, you know,
00:59everywhere from Fayetteville to the world.
01:01No cap. It's a good pressure.
01:05I love it because I feel like it gives me a reason to work harder
01:08because now I know a lot of eyes on me.
01:11There's a lot of kids, a lot of teenagers, a lot of other rappers that's watching me
01:14like, yo, what moves can I make to get there?
01:16And I'm glad that I have the talent to show them,
01:20and I'm glad that I'm going to be able to show them.
01:22What were some of those inspirations coming up?
01:25A lot of inspirations was, like, gospel music.
01:27It was, like, Karen Clark Shield, Kelly Price, Jay Moss.
01:32And then, like, when I got older, I started listening to music myself out of the church.
01:35It was, like, Drake.
01:36Drake was really a big, intricate part of my life as far as music.
01:40Understanding that you ain't got to sing or rap.
01:42You can do both on your own track and feature yourself.
01:45I said, oh, shit, I'm going to do this.
01:46Like, and it made me feel like I didn't have to pick and choose.
01:50You know, of course, it took me a lot longer to get what I wanted to say out,
01:53but at least he gave me the basis so I could do both.
01:57I love the sound, too, man.
01:59Where'd you, like, kind of harness that?
02:01You know what I mean?
02:01I know you were just talking about, like, you know,
02:04just like what you said with Drake and allowing, you know,
02:06people to rap and sing and kind of harmonize, you know, in their music.
02:10Like, where did you, did you sing at a young, at a young age?
02:14Were you, were you in, like, any choirs, anything like that coming up?
02:17I know you mentioned gospel music.
02:19Yes, sir.
02:19Oh, yeah, I stayed, I stayed in the church.
02:21Hey, when you're from the South, that, that you got no choice.
02:24Do that Monday night prayer, Wednesday night prayer, Friday night service,
02:28Saturday night choir rehearsal, and Sunday night service.
02:31So, like, that's just how it works.
02:33So, I stayed in the church and growing up on that background
02:35and hearing the singers and how they sang, not even sing,
02:39but how they sang and how they carried notes and undertones
02:42and how brutally honest the church is will definitely make you get your pitch right.
02:49Something about Sister Johnson saying, baby, that ain't your song.
02:54It will hurt your heart.
02:56Oh, my God.
02:58Yo, and I love it on quicksand because I know your sound is very, very different
03:03and it's very unique, something I haven't really heard,
03:06and especially the way there's a part in quicksand,
03:08I don't know the lyrics off the head, but they're like,
03:10da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
03:12Like, I've never heard, yo.
03:14I was like, oh, yo.
03:15I'm like, yo, this is an immediate slap the minute I heard it.
03:18So, tell me where that flow kind of came from.
03:23Was that something you were just, like, messing around with in the studio
03:25and you were just like, you know, this kind of works?
03:27Because, man, it really, I haven't heard anything like that.
03:30So, you really kind of, like, secured that spot as far as, like, the flow, you know?
03:38I ain't gonna lie to you.
03:39When I listen to beats, I try to make my voice an instrument with the beat.
03:45And when that part came up, I don't even know what made me change it,
03:49but I just wanted to switch my flow up so it sounded nothing like what I was already doing.
03:53Because, no cap, another reference is to Drizzy, how he changes flow up, like, five, six times in the verse.
03:58Like, that's what you got to do to keep people involved.
04:01And then when I came up with that, two dogs, where did I flow up?
04:03I hop in, it's cool.
04:04Like, I don't even know where it came.
04:06The words came from me, but the flow just came from nowhere, bro.
04:09Because I wrote it differently, but I recorded it differently.
04:12You know what I mean?
04:13That wasn't my rhythm when I wrote it.
04:14But when I recorded it, that was rhythm.
04:16It just changed.
04:18Bro, I love it.
04:19I love that style, bro.
04:21Like, especially that part of the record, man, when you get busy on that flow.
04:25I was like, bro, like, mind blown.
04:28But also, you know, is there a project that you're working on?
04:31What's cooking up over there?
04:33Right now, I got my mixtape coming out hopefully very soon.
04:37I'm still getting the finishing touches on it right now.
04:40But I'm definitely trying to give people more of me, learn more of me, get to know me.
04:45I don't have any features on this mixtape because I really want people to understand who I am first.
04:51And I also want people in the industry to know, like, yo, I can carry a song as well.
04:54So, like, when it comes to the business, they understand Mo Ray's a good asset.
04:58And when it comes to the fans, they know Mo Ray is going to give us all.
05:00So, I just want to please both sides of the party.
05:03So, I please myself.
05:04There you go, man.
05:05That's the energy to have, bro.
05:06And I love the energy you have.
05:07You know what I'm saying?
05:08You up and at it.
05:09Yes, sir.
05:10I got to tell you, too, like, you know, being from Fayetteville and with the record doing what it is, has that phone rang from, you know, the Fayetteville, you know, guard himself right now, J. Cole?
05:21Yeah, no cap.
05:21Yeah, I've talked to J. Cole plenty of times.
05:23Like, no cap.
05:25He's really a humble-ass, honest nigga.
05:28Like, when you talk to him, like, you got to get in your serious bag because he make you want to be super real and come forth real.
05:36Like, I fuck a boy.
05:38He's super solid, bro.
05:39No cap.
05:40That's cool, man.
05:41It's funny that I can talk about J. Cole like that when I didn't know that nigga.
05:43Like, that shit is crazy.
05:45Let's just say that shit out loud.
05:46Like, the fact that I talk to the boy, that shit is crazy.
05:49Bro, it's up from there.
05:51You know what I mean?
05:51Yeah.
05:52That's all you need, man, to keep that battery going.
05:55You know what I mean?
05:55That battery in your back to go harder.
05:58Yes, sir.
05:58Tell me a little bit about the city Fayetteville, man.
06:00I know Cole's rapped about it many times on the record, but I'd love to hear your perspective on it and just kind of see what the scene is.
06:06Like, in that area, because it seems like there's so many casts that, you know, there's this talent out there and I feel like it's on the rise and it's really starting to get its shine.
06:15Yeah, honestly, I know Cap Fairville is, there's so much talent in Fayetteville.
06:19Like, not even just rappers, like singers, dancers, actors, fucking philanthropists, whatever.
06:25But there's so much shit down here that I know if the right eye seen it, my city would go so, so further than it ever could have gone.
06:34I feel like we need a bigger life.
06:36And it's so much love.
06:38It's just like every city, no, let me wrong, there's still niggas who kill each other, it's still stupid shit.
06:42But it's more love than anything.
06:45Because when you go, when you walk in my city, you can see a fucking complete stranger and be like, what's up, my boy?
06:48Oh, what's up, my boy? How you feeling?
06:49Like, I don't even know this nigga, bro.
06:50We just spoke to each other because that's how it is.
06:52If you come with respect, you get it back.
06:54And I think I learned that shit from Fayetteville because when you're around complete strangers, you can have a complete conversation without no aggression, without no bullshit.
07:02How can you not be okay with that, bro?
07:04Yeah, that's real right there, man.
07:07And being from this city, I know you got it on your back right now, holding it down.
07:11You know, is there other things that you are trying to get with?
07:15I love your personality, too.
07:17Do you ever see yourself, like, trying to do stuff in, like, TV or movies and stuff like that?
07:21It seems like, you know, the sky's the limit from here on out.
07:24I ain't gonna lie to you.
07:25I would love to do any of that.
07:26Like, growing up, you watch a lot of TV, so you always, like, try to see if you can fucking act.
07:32You know, I would love to give it a shot, but that's, like, further down the line right now.
07:36I just want to just focus on this music and really see how far I can go with my first dream before I focus on the second one.
07:42Respect that.
07:43Respect that.
07:44Quicksand is going crazy right now.
07:45Now, you say you got the mixtape on the way.
07:47You got a title for it?
07:49Yes, sir, I do.
07:50I was going for, let me see, Street Sermons Volume 1.
07:55Street Sermon Volume 1.
07:57Yes, sir.
07:57That church aspect to it.
07:59All right, respect that.
08:00Just because it makes sense about who I am, because in everything that I do, I want to give him his recognition as well.
08:07That's cool.
08:08I dig that.
08:09And anybody that you're working with, is it just straight you?
08:11You got any features on it?
08:13It's just me.
08:14That's cool.
08:14That's cool.
08:15Any producers that you're working with?
08:16I work with four and got them.
08:20Eight away, Southside.
08:21I believe, I'm not sure, I haven't had one with Melo, but you know, people like that always come into the studio and give you pointers.
08:31So either way, they help regardless.
08:33I've had a lot of producers just, you know, talk to me and give me advice.
08:36So the ones that I didn't shout out, still thank y'all for even giving a nigga the time of the day to talk to me and give me some advice.
08:42You can hear me like, niggas like Glock, Slade, and Funk with Me, Top, a lot of producers, a lot of them that showed up, just thank y'all.
08:51Thank y'all.
08:52Word.
08:52And real quick, to go back to Quicksand being the hit singer, I know we talk about this a lot.
08:57I mean, it's the only thing to talk about as far as it being 50 million views and obviously the world's, it's on display right now.
09:05And it's interesting these days to see how music is discovered.
09:08I mean, we see it doing numbers streaming wise, too, and that's really how I discovered it by the playlist.
09:15You know, how did you know that this was it?
09:18Like, Quicksand, this was the record?
09:20I didn't know until it got its first, like, 100,000 views.
09:24And I put it in, like, a body before, too.
09:26Just when I seen the number of 100,000 and nobody did get that in my city besides me, that's when I knew, like, yo, I might have tapped into something a little different that made it some traction.
09:36And I still didn't think it would get 50 million.
09:41Like, I just found that shit out yesterday.
09:42So, you feel me?
09:45That shit's a lot to take in.
09:46You feel me?
09:47No, I feel that.
09:49It's a blessing.
09:50And I'm humbled.
09:51I'm grateful.
09:52And I'm happy at the end of the day.
09:54And I'm happy for you, man.
09:55I can't wait to hit a project.
09:57Looking forward to it real soon.
09:58No date on it yet?
10:00Not a date yet, but just know I'm working hard on it.
10:04Bet that.
10:04And in the meantime, we're going to continue running quick, staying up here at the station, Wild 94.1.
10:08Bro, appreciate you.
10:09Keep doing your thing, man.
10:10We got to get you out here to Tampa.
10:12We got to put you on the vibes out here, bro.
10:15I got to see what it's like.
10:16I ain't never been.
10:17I got to go, bro.
10:18Oh, everything's beautiful about it.
10:20Trust me.
10:21I don't know what you've heard about Tampa, but listen, everything.
10:23I ain't heard nothing.
10:24The first time I'm going to be when I hear from you.
10:26There you go.
10:26Are you into kicks or anything at all?
10:28Like, your steeves?
10:29You know what I mean?
10:30Like, fashion vibes?
10:31Like, what do you want?
10:32I'm not really a fashion nigga.
10:33Like, I didn't grow up with a lot.
10:34So, it's hard for me to get into that shit now.
10:37You know what I mean?
10:38Yeah.
10:39I'm a sweatsuit type nigga.
10:41Sweat pants, t-shirts.
10:42Same.
10:43Regular schmecklet.
10:43You feel me, Joe?
10:44Bro, I sweat pants and sneakers.
10:45I got to listen to something right now.
10:48Deadass.
10:48But, hey, you mess.
10:49You fuck with me.
10:50I'm going to put you on in some kicks, man.
10:51You're going to mess around and be a sneaker head.
10:52Show me the way, brother.
10:53Show me the way.
10:54I will.
10:54I will guide you, my friend.
10:56Yo, we'll be in touch, man.
10:57And, uh, definitely, uh, keep in contact.
10:59And I'd definitely love to, like, have you out here.
11:01Are you doing, uh, are you booking any performances or anything like that?
11:04Uh, I have, I have one coming up at Apple 2.
11:08Okay.
11:09I'm definitely trying to, trying to get that, that rockin'.
11:11I think I have another one in, oh, it's in Texas, I believe.
11:15I'm trying, I'm trying to see right now who, who would want me.
11:17I'm trying to show up.
11:18Oh, Tampa, Tampa wants you.
11:19Like, the record is, the record's up.
11:21So, yeah.
11:21Hey, hit the vibes then.
11:23Hit the proper channels.
11:24Let's get crazy.
11:25I'm going to hit up my man, I'm going to hit up Gaffey, and then we'll, uh, we'll try
11:28to piece it up from there.
11:29Let's go.
11:30All right?
11:31All right.
11:32My G.
11:33Yo, bless, bro.
11:34Congratulations on everything, man.
11:35I'll talk to you soon.
11:36What?
11:37You know the vibes?
11:37Love.
11:38Peace.
