A man and a teenage boy have been charged after a nine-year-old boy was killed in an accidental shooting incident. Paramedics tried to treat the boy at a property in Windellama, near Goulburn, but he died at the scene.

00:00The property at Windelmer, about 30 minutes drive southeast of Goulburn, remained cordoned
00:08off this morning. The local community is still in shock.
00:12When I heard the news, this tragic news, that I'm just like everybody else in the community,
00:17that I was distraught, I was horrified that such an incident could happen in this day
00:22and age.
00:23Emergency services were called to the property at around 11.20am on Sunday following the
00:29shooting.
00:30Police were told the nine-year-old had been injured after the accidental discharge of
00:34a firearm. Paramedics treated the boy for serious neck injuries, but he died at the scene.
00:40A 33-year-old man arrested at the property was charged with allowing an unauthorised person
00:45to possess a firearm and not keeping a firearm safely. Police also arrested a 14-year-old
00:52boy who's been charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm. Investigators say the
00:57family is from Sydney. Neighbours told the ABC the property was purchased a few years
01:02ago as a weekender. Authorities say the incident is a sad reminder of the need for vigilance
01:08on firearm safety.
01:10To make sure that the gun is secure, to make sure that the ammunition is secure, because
01:15nobody wants to have to live through a tragedy like this.
01:17The 33-year-old man will face Goulburn local court on May 14, while the teenage boy who's
01:23on conditional bail will face the children's court two days later.
01:27Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
