True Repentance Is Produced from the Word of God and It Changes the Heart, Not Just Circumstances. The Word of God Mentions Three Types of the Blood of Jesus: The Blood of Gethsemane, the Blood of Pilate's Judgement Hall, and the Blood of the Cross. The Blood of Jesus Christ Is What Saves Us and Brings Us to True Repentance.
Transcript
00:00All right, if you have the Bible, the Word of God, I hope you have, you have the Word
00:11of God, let me give you a scripture to turn to, all right, turn to the book of Exodus
00:17chapter number 12 and verse number 13, Exodus chapter 12 and verse number 13.
00:30The scripture says, and the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you
00:43are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon
00:50you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt, Father bless this holy book, in thy
00:58name I pray, amen.
01:00The Jew also has on his door what's called a Mesuzah, the Mesuzah contains the scriptures,
01:07the Word of God, the Deuteronomy chapter number 6 and verse number 4 is very, very well loved
01:14and liked among the Jewish people, hear you, O Israel, the Lord your God is one Lord, amen.
01:20And of course, he is one God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
01:26If you've seen me, he said, you have seen the Father.
01:30The children of Israel after 400 years of Egyptian bondage are about to be redeemed.
01:37The book of Exodus is the book of redemption.
01:40You need to keep in mind that these books have themes that run throughout them.
01:43There's a theme that runs from the book of Genesis all the way through the book of Revelation,
01:48all 66 books of scripture.
01:50And sometimes it takes the Lord God 2,000 years to develop a theme and reveal it to us.
01:55As he would have us know, there are themes in the Bible that have yet to be revealed
02:00and developed completely, but we believe the Word of God.
02:03After 400 years, God will send a Redeemer.
02:07There are those who teach that Israel never was a nation.
02:10There were just a bunch of tribal people up to 300, 400 B.C., something of that nature.
02:15But they found what's called the Merneptah Stone.
02:18And the Merneptah Stone makes mention of Israel as a nation, as a people,
02:23going back thousands of years in Egypt.
02:26So this is a secular authority to show you that the Word of God is definitely his story
02:33as God reveals it to us.
02:35The Merneptah Stone.
02:36Keep that in mind if you'd like to look it up.
02:38You can when you get home this afternoon.
02:41He judged the gods of Egypt, the demon gods.
02:44He judged them, and he made known throughout all the land of Egypt
02:48and throughout all the land, all the way to Rahab in Jericho,
02:53that he was about to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage.
02:57He was about to show them who the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel was.
03:01He was about to show them the great I Am.
03:04They were about to learn something.
03:06And not the demons.
03:07They already know who he is.
03:08They've always known who he is.
03:10It's up to the people.
03:12He brought ten plagues upon them.
03:15Ten's a Gentile number.
03:16This is one of the themes that's developed in the Scripture.
03:19So ten is definitely a Gentile number.
03:23But ten plagues were brought.
03:24The last two were by far and away the worst.
03:28The ninth plague is when he brought darkness down upon the land.
03:31Darkness so thick that they could literally feel it.
03:34They could touch it.
03:35This, my dear friend, is a horrible thing.
03:38Consider the Egyptians' god, Rah, who was the sun god that they worshipped.
03:43And here, Rah was being judged.
03:45Rah could not bring light when God brought darkness.
03:49You see, God turns the light on and he turns it off.
03:51He opens the door and he shuts the door.
03:54By him ye shall enter in, and there is no other way.
03:57So he brought the ten plagues, but the last one, far and away, the worst of all of them.
04:03Because it was a plague upon the firstborn of all the land of Egypt.
04:07It didn't make any difference if he was a Hebrew or an Egyptian.
04:10He was looking for blood.
04:12And the blood, he said, would be a token.
04:14When I see the blood, I will pass over you.
04:17Which, of course, presents to us something that a lot of people don't like.
04:21They don't like the idea of the blood atonement.
04:23They don't like the idea of preaching the blood.
04:26On the emails or the comments on the section there, on the YouTube section this past week,
04:32a dear lady wrote in about living in Hawaii.
04:34She's a Samoan.
04:35And she grew up there in Hawaii.
04:38Said they built their little village.
04:40And in the midst of that village, they built a house building on block.
04:44And it was substantial.
04:46And it was built down upon the ground.
04:48And then the Samoans built their little village around.
04:51They didn't have much, but everything was focused upon the church there in the middle.
04:55And so the day came when the floods came and when the wind blew.
05:00And I tell you what happened.
05:01She says that it blew all hard through that land.
05:06And she went out and looked.
05:08And there in the middle, the church that was built upon rock and block and strong and wasn't anymore.
05:16It was gone.
05:17The church had literally been blown away.
05:20But not a single one of the little shacks, you might call them, of the villagers was touched.
05:26They were still there.
05:28And she says at the end of it that the people, these ministers in the church, had embezzled a lot of money.
05:34They'd taken money.
05:36They were thieves, apparently.
05:37And so when God sent the judgment down upon them, he spared the people and he wiped out the church.
05:44She wanted me to know that because I preached last Sunday, the church is not a building.
05:49No, the church is not a building.
05:51Church of the people.
05:52You see, he left the church there and he took the swindler's building with him.
05:57Did you get that message?
05:59Amen.
06:00The church is going to be here.
06:02Upon this rock, I'll build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
06:07Pharaoh's magicians could replicate some of the miracles.
06:11For example, they could turn snakes and frogs and turn water to blood.
06:15They could do a lot of things.
06:16And because of this, God used this to harden the heart of Pharaoh.
06:21But I want you to think about something now.
06:23I'm going to put this in just for you to think.
06:25If they can turn something into a snake, if they can turn something into a frog,
06:30if they can change water to blood, if they can do these things,
06:33and there's no indication that they didn't do it, you can get into liberalism.
06:37They'll say, well, it was just, you know, it appeared to be.
06:41And they say, no, I believe the Bible.
06:43And if the Bible says they did it, they did it.
06:46But then, of course, that raises the question of what kind of power does Satan really have
06:50if he's able to produce snakes, if he's able to produce this.
06:54I mean, you go back into the Native Americans and the skinwalkers and all of this thing that you read about
06:59and all the stuff that goes on on the earth.
07:01You begin to say to yourself, well, maybe it's not as wild and crazy as we think.
07:05Maybe there's a reality to this.
07:07Yes, there is, my dear friend.
07:09He that letteth will let till be taken out of the way.
07:12Keep that in mind.
07:13The day is going to come that even the elect would be deceived.
07:17Satan has all kinds of power.
07:19And the only one that limits that power is the Almighty.
07:23You're living in the transitional period from a time to day to go into that time that is soon to come.
07:30And so it came.
07:31And so it came.
07:32And the darkness came.
07:33And you could feel it.
07:35And then the true light at the end of the darkness.
07:37For the Egyptian, he was blinded.
07:39He had no light.
07:40But for the Word of God, for the people of the Bible, for the people of the book that believed the Lord,
07:45they had a Passover lamb.
07:47And that Passover lamb brought them through and it brought them out.
07:50And it gave them light.
07:51And they received the light and followed what they knew.
07:54And one step at a time, God led them forth from that place.
07:57And that's the way he does us all.
07:58If you'll accept the light that God gives you, he'll give you more light.
08:02If you'll receive him, he'll give you more.
08:04If you'll follow him with an honest heart, my dear friend.
08:07Don't expect for him to load you up and fill up your head with some kind of a bunch of novel this and novel that.
08:13Just follow the light that God gives you.
08:16Amen.
08:17The book that he's put in your hands, which is the Word of God.
08:21From darkness to light.
08:22Amen.
08:22That's a lot to be thankful for.
08:25But you notice there's a Passover lamb involved here.
08:28And the Passover lamb is a little lamb.
08:29And how in the world could this little lamb, how in the world could a little lamb defeat all of these gods of the Egyptians?
08:38How could this little lamb bring them out?
08:42Well, the lamb didn't bring them out.
08:44The blood of the lamb brought them out.
08:46The blood of the lamb is what made them free.
08:48It was the shedding of that blood and the application of that blood that made them free.
08:53And you see, my dear friend, then we get into a theme that runs throughout the whole Bible.
08:59It says in the book of Leviticus chapter number 17 and verse 11,
09:02For the life of the flesh is in the blood.
09:05And I've given it to you upon the altar that are making atonement for the soul.
09:08This is 3,400 years ago.
09:13God said the life of the flesh is in the blood.
09:16The blood in Greek is heima himatas.
09:18That's where we get the word in English.
09:20The blood that curses through your body, through all the veins and arteries of your body, constantly moving right now.
09:27Let the blood stop and all your flesh will dry up and die.
09:32It has to be fed.
09:34This is what the Bible says.
09:36Did you know that when General Washington, General George Washington, the first president of this country, died,
09:41did you know that they bled him?
09:43Do you realize that this man got sick and in 21 hours he was dead?
09:49He was perfectly healthy, went out and rolled around his land and came back wet.
09:54That night he didn't change his clothes and apparently he ate a meal and then got sick.
10:01And with no time at all, he passed away.
10:05And here's what he told them when he came in.
10:07He said, bleed me.
10:09He said, I want you to bleed because they believe that bloodletting back in the 1700s was a way to heal.
10:16They believed that.
10:17And so they bled him.
10:19And to this very day, there's a lot of controversy about how President Washington died, what caused him to die, what happened to him.
10:28They don't know.
10:28They don't even know what he had.
10:29There's a lot of controversy to that.
10:31But do you know that Bible said 1,400 years before Christ?
10:36You don't bleed your body.
10:38They say up to 40% of his blood was taken.
10:40You don't do that.
10:41The scripture says the life of your flesh is in the blood.
10:44Amen.
10:45And yes, it is.
10:47You notice how the word of God has something to say long before we learn it in so-called science?
10:53The Bible says in Revelation 5, 9,
10:55They sung a new song saying,
10:58Thou art worthy to take the book, to open the seals thereof, for thou wast slain.
11:02It hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation.
11:08And hast made us into our God, kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth.
11:13Then in Revelation 12, 11,
11:15And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.
11:17Amen.
11:17Let me talk about three different bloods that are talked about in the New Testament.
11:22For example, in the book of Luke chapter 22 and verse number 43, it says,
11:27When he prayed, his sweat was as it were great drops of blood.
11:31Whereas this, this is the blood of Gethsemane.
11:35Gethsemane literally means olive press.
11:38You see, the Lord Jesus Christ started bleeding before he ever went to the cross.
11:42He had a trail of blood that took him all the way to the tree.
11:46Gethsemane is where Hebrews chapter number 5 comes in play.
11:51Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplication with strong crying and tears,
11:57unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard, him that he feared.
12:02Though he were son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.
12:06And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.
12:12You see, my dear friend, no man that has ever lived on the face of this earth
12:16went through what the Lord Jesus Christ went through at Gethsemane.
12:21For it was at Gethsemane that God Almighty brought holiness down upon his son.
12:26He brought righteousness down upon his son.
12:29He brought all that God is, or ever my dear friend would be to us, upon his son.
12:34And the Lord Jesus Christ knew.
12:37He began to see it as God unfolded to him.
12:39He who knew no sin became sin for us.
12:44The Lord Jesus Christ became sin.
12:47And my dear friend, it was more than he could stand.
12:50It was more than he could take.
12:52What am I going to do when God makes me sin?
12:56It had nothing to do with his death on the cross.
12:58It had everything to do with the punishment of God and the judgment that God would pour out upon his son.
13:04When we talk about the Passover, we talk about how God delivers us from sin.
13:09We talk about how that God forgives us for our sins.
13:13We don't really think about how he's able to do that.
13:15He's able to do that because one became sin and paid for sin and paid for every sin you'll ever commit,
13:23you ever have committed, or what you did today.
13:26The Lord Jesus Christ became that sin and was condemned on the cross.
13:32And my friend, he prayed, God, save me from this.
13:37And God did, for he brought him out of it.
13:39So the blood of Gethsemane was the first place.
13:43Then there's the blood at Pilate's judgment hall.
13:46John chapter number 19, verse 1,
13:48Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him.
13:50Scourge, and what do you mean scourge?
13:52What's that mean, preacher?
13:53That means that he took a whip and they tore the flesh off of his back.
13:57They tore it off of his body.
13:59He was bleeding from head to toe.
14:01My dear friend, blood was everywhere.
14:03He was not only bleeding from the blood of Gethsemane,
14:06now he's bleeding from his back.
14:08Stripes were opened up, plowed in as if you would plow the land.
14:13The Lord Jesus Christ was bleeding there.
14:16The apostle Peter says in 1 Peter chapter number 2 and verse number 24,
14:20Who his own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree,
14:24that we being dead to sin should live unto righteousness,
14:27by whose stripes ye were healed.
14:30This, my dear friend, is the blood that was shed from what came from the outside upon him,
14:36from the burden that was brought down upon him,
14:39for what he had to bear of a human being,
14:42what they were doing to him.
14:44You see, at Gethsemane was God the Father,
14:46speaking into his soul.
14:48No man could do that.
14:50But here, my friend, at Pilate's judgment hall,
14:53they were beating him,
14:54they were ripping his back open,
14:56and the blood was coming down.
14:58And it was there, he said,
15:00by his stripes we were healed.
15:02The Old Testament says,
15:03by his stripes ye are healed.
15:06That, my friend, is in the mind of God,
15:08it says,
15:09you are healed in the sense that God said,
15:12I have made provision for it.
15:14I will take care of it.
15:15But in the New Testament,
15:17when it says,
15:17by his stripes we were healed,
15:20it means it's done.
15:22It's paid for.
15:24It's finished.
15:25And cannot be added to.
15:27Can you be healed, preacher?
15:29You better believe you can.
15:30Can God heal me, preacher?
15:32Then come to him with it.
15:34How do you know, preacher?
15:35I don't have to know.
15:36What do you know?
15:37Have you cried unto God
15:39for your sickness,
15:41for your problems,
15:42for problems,
15:43whatever is eating away at your body,
15:45I'm not telling you
15:46that I know the answer
15:47to all of sickness.
15:49No, but I know who can.
15:51Bring it to him.
15:53Call unto him.
15:55And he said,
15:55I'll answer you
15:56and show the great and mighty things
15:57that thou knowest not.
15:59I say it,
16:00make myself clear to you today.
16:03Can God heal me, preacher?
16:04Yes.
16:05Will he heal me today?
16:07That's between you and God.
16:10Don't take a man's word for it.
16:13Don't let a doctor
16:14put a death sentence on you
16:16and then just walk away
16:17and accept that.
16:19Let that come from almighty God.
16:21Let him give you
16:22the final word
16:24as to what he's going to do to you.
16:25I've lived like that
16:27for 12 years.
16:28How about you?
16:29They've got a fellow on TV now
16:31talking about AFib
16:32and everybody's getting all
16:33carried away about AFib
16:35like this great thing
16:36that he's telling people.
16:37Listen, people,
16:38I've been in that for 12 years.
16:39long before he knew
16:41anything about AFib
16:42and a lot of you have too.
16:45You know exactly
16:45what I'm talking about.
16:47When your heart starts
16:48running away,
16:49when you get so weak
16:50you can't even stand up,
16:51when you get dizzy,
16:53you get weak,
16:53you get tired.
16:55Atrial fibrillation
16:56is a terrible thing
16:57to smite someone.
16:58Long time ago,
16:59I didn't know
17:00if I was going to live or die,
17:01but God intervened.
17:04He spoke to me one night
17:05and he said,
17:06Son, I'm not finished with you.
17:08I'll have you here
17:09as long as I want you here.
17:11And then when I'm done with you,
17:12I'm going to take you home.
17:13I walked out of there that night
17:15and I said to myself,
17:16what better thing
17:17can I ask for than that?
17:18If God says that
17:19he's going to keep me here
17:20until he's done with me
17:21and when he's done with me
17:22he's going to take me home,
17:24hallelujah to God.
17:26Amen.
17:27I'm still peeled up.
17:28Every day I take
17:29handfuls of pills,
17:31but that's the way
17:32God has chosen
17:33to do it with me.
17:35Now, I don't know
17:36about you,
17:36but that's what he does with me.
17:38Then there's finally
17:39the blood of the cross.
17:41In John chapter number 19,
17:43verse 16,
17:44then delivered he him
17:45therefore unto them
17:46to be crucified.
17:48And the Bible says
17:49in verse 18,
17:50they crucified him.
17:52What is this?
17:53This came from his very being.
17:55This is the blood
17:56that was shed at the cross.
17:58This is why you look
17:59to the cross
17:59because there on the cross,
18:02God was in Christ
18:03reconciling the world
18:04into himself.
18:05It was the blood
18:06of the cross of Christ,
18:07the blood of the Lord Jesus
18:08that washes your sins away.
18:11It is that blood
18:11that was shed
18:12at the cross at Calvary
18:13that made peace with God.
18:15It's the atonement.
18:16The atonement
18:17was not made at Gethsemane.
18:19The atonement
18:19was not made
18:20at Pilate's judgment hall.
18:21The atonement
18:22was made
18:23at the cross at Calvary.
18:25If you don't preach
18:26the cross,
18:27you're not preaching
18:27the gospel.
18:28You're just preaching
18:30morality and good works.
18:32Someone said one time,
18:33you know something preacher?
18:34Our church died
18:36a long time ago.
18:37Why?
18:38Because the preacher
18:38quit preaching the cross
18:40and started preaching morality.
18:42He started preaching
18:43to us how to be good,
18:44how to treat each other,
18:45how to do this
18:46and how to do that.
18:47My dear friend,
18:48you can do the best
18:48you can do,
18:49but I'll tell you right now,
18:50it'll never be good enough.
18:52By the judge,
18:53by good works,
18:55no flesh should be justified.
18:57None.
18:58By the flesh,
18:59by the law,
19:00by the good works
19:01of keeping the law,
19:02you'll never be justified.
19:04But by the blood of Christ,
19:06your sins can be washed away.
19:08Don't you notice
19:09something else though
19:09about Pharaoh?
19:11This is one of the greatest lessons
19:12you can learn
19:13from this whole story.
19:15And that's this about Pharaoh.
19:17Do you want to notice
19:17what it says over here
19:18about Pharaoh?
19:19If you have your Bible,
19:20look at the book of Exodus,
19:22chapter number eight
19:23and verse number seven.
19:27Scripture says,
19:27Aaron stretched out his hand
19:28of the waters of Egypt
19:29and the frogs came up
19:31and covered the land of Egypt
19:32and the magicians did so.
19:36And when Pharaoh saw
19:38that there was respite,
19:41he hardened his heart
19:42and hearkened not unto them
19:45as the Lord had said.
19:47We're going to learn
19:47a lesson this morning.
19:49I hope we can get it.
19:51So what is that preacher?
19:52It's the lesson of repentance.
19:54Repentance is so important.
19:56It's so necessary.
19:58There's so much being preached today
20:00about how that you simply
20:01believe by faith.
20:03You believe a bunch of stuff
20:04about Christ.
20:05And that if you pass that point,
20:08if you preach to people
20:09about repentance
20:10that you're preaching works.
20:11I'm not preaching works,
20:13but I'm telling you this.
20:15If what you got from God is real,
20:18it's going to turn you
20:19and change you
20:21in your faith
20:22and your trust with him.
20:23They say the word repentance
20:26in the New Testament
20:26is from the Greek word
20:27metanoia.
20:29You look up the meaning
20:30of the word metanoia.
20:32The dictionary sometimes
20:33can be a great help.
20:34The dictionary sometimes
20:35can be a stumbling block.
20:37So what do you mean?
20:38Well, they say that it only means
20:40to change the mind.
20:43That repentance has nothing more
20:44than simply changing the mind.
20:47My dear friend,
20:48before this sun goes down today,
20:50you can change your mind
20:51a half a dozen times.
20:52Your mind has a mind of its own.
20:55Think about what I'm saying to you.
20:57From the heart,
20:58man believeth into righteousness.
21:00With the mouth,
21:01confession is made
21:01into salvation.
21:03So what are you saying, preacher?
21:04I'm saying what Christ said.
21:06Except you repent,
21:07you shall all likewise perish.
21:10Repentance is not so much for God
21:12as it is for you.
21:14Let me show you how it works.
21:16When Pharaoh saw
21:17that his magicians could do
21:18what Aaron and Moses did,
21:20he hardened his heart
21:21that much more.
21:22He hardened it more.
21:24When Pharaoh realized
21:26that his problems
21:26were taken away,
21:28then he hardened his heart
21:29that much more.
21:31Is that not the way we do?
21:33Are there not a lot of people
21:35who come into the church house
21:36at a time of terrible woe
21:38and problems
21:39and sickness,
21:41families breaking up,
21:42husband left,
21:43wife left,
21:44they're sick,
21:44and they run down
21:45to the altar
21:46and they get on their knees
21:47and they pray
21:47and they pour their heart
21:49out to God,
21:50they think.
21:51But what they're praying about
21:52is their circumstances.
21:54That's all they're concerned about
21:55because if these circumstances,
21:58circumstances,
21:59for the moment
22:00that they're crying
22:01unto God about
22:02are lifted
22:03and things get better,
22:05you watch them.
22:06They'll fade away
22:08back into the world.
22:10Why do they fade away
22:11back into the world?
22:12Because they never repented,
22:13that's why.
22:15Repentance is not so much
22:16to deal with your circumstances
22:17as it has to do
22:19with your heart
22:20as to who you are.
22:22You can take anyone
22:23today
22:24that's on the street
22:26and people have a hard time.
22:28They're having a hard,
22:28a lot of people
22:29are having a hard time
22:30financially right now.
22:31You can give them something
22:32in the name of the Lord Jesus.
22:34They'll thank you for it.
22:35That's all good.
22:36That's all well.
22:37There's nothing wrong with that.
22:39But you see,
22:40that does not produce
22:42repentance.
22:44Repentance is produced
22:45from the Word of God
22:46working in your heart,
22:48working in your heart.
22:50And when it works
22:51in your heart,
22:52it changes
22:53who you are
22:54and what you are.
22:55Let me show you.
22:57Now we have Pharaoh.
22:58Then we have Saul,
22:59for example,
23:00in 1 Samuel 26, 21.
23:03Then said,
23:03Saul,
23:04I have sinned.
23:06Pharaoh said
23:07in Exodus 10,
23:08I have sinned
23:09against the Lord your God.
23:11But in both cases,
23:12when these two men said,
23:14I have sinned,
23:15later they changed their mind
23:16and they turned
23:18against the very one
23:19that they said
23:20they had sinned.
23:21But I want you to look
23:22at this one
23:22in 2 Chronicles 33.
23:24His name is Manasseh.
23:262 Chronicles 33,
23:27verse 11.
23:28If you'll read this one with me,
23:30it has a great amount
23:31of light to it.
23:332 Chronicles 33,
23:34verse 11.
23:34Wherefore the Lord
23:36brought upon them
23:37the captains
23:38of the host
23:38of the king of Assyria,
23:40which took Manasseh
23:41among the thorns
23:42and bound him
23:43with fetters
23:44and carried him
23:45to Babylon.
23:47And when he was
23:48in affliction,
23:49he besought
23:50the Lord his God.
23:51Now watch this.
23:52And humbled himself
23:53greatly
23:54before the God
23:56of his fathers
23:56and prayed unto him
23:58and he was entreated
23:59of him
24:00and heard his supplication
24:02and brought him again
24:03to Jerusalem
24:03and to the kingdom.
24:05Then Manasseh knew
24:06that the Lord,
24:08he was God.
24:09This is real repentance.
24:11This was a wicked king.
24:13He had child sacrifice,
24:15all the rest of the stuff
24:16that went with it.
24:17The perversions
24:18that Solomon brought
24:19into the land of Israel.
24:21My dear friend,
24:22he really repented.
24:24And when he did repent,
24:26God blessed him.
24:28He blessed his posterity.
24:29He blessed his family.
24:30The Lord knows
24:32in your heart.
24:33Look at David's repentance.
24:35In Psalm 51,
24:36verse number one,
24:36Have mercy upon me,
24:37O God.
24:38According to thy loving kindness,
24:40according to the multitude
24:41of thy tender mercies,
24:43blot out my transgressions.
24:45Wash me throughly
24:46from mine iniquity
24:47and cleanse me
24:48from my sin.
24:49For I acknowledge
24:50my transgressions
24:51and my sin
24:52is ever before me
24:54against thee
24:55and thee only
24:56have I sinned
24:57and done this evil
24:57in thy sight.
24:59I've told you before,
25:01a lot of times
25:02preachers fall.
25:03God help me.
25:04I pray I never do.
25:05But I know one thing.
25:06I can't stand on
25:07what I stand on.
25:08I have to stand on Christ.
25:10I can't stand on 48 years
25:12in the ministry.
25:13I can't stand on reputation.
25:15I can't stand on knowledge
25:17and all the rest
25:18that goes with it.
25:19I have to stand on the one
25:20who can keep me from falling.
25:23But they do.
25:25Sometimes it goes to their head.
25:26Sometimes they get puffed up.
25:28Sometimes they do.
25:29And they fall.
25:30And when they fall,
25:32you may run down
25:33to the altar.
25:34A bunch of people
25:34get around and pray with you.
25:36But let me tell you something.
25:38Just because you got caught,
25:40just because things
25:42fell apart around you,
25:43that's no indication
25:45that you've repented.
25:46Repentance is a work
25:47that's done in your heart.
25:49It's a work of grace
25:50that's done in your heart.
25:52It's when you receive
25:53the truth of God
25:54as he says it about you
25:55and to you
25:55and who you are.
25:57It's when you receive God.
25:58You receive his word.
25:59You receive it in your heart
26:00and into your soul.
26:02I believe a lot of things
26:03intellectually.
26:04I believe the whole Bible
26:06intellectually.
26:07I believe every bit of it
26:08intellectually.
26:09But I also believe it
26:10in my heart.
26:12I cling to it.
26:14Yes, I do.
26:15I take hold of it.
26:16My life changed in 1973.
26:19I didn't know
26:19what repentance meant
26:20in 1973,
26:22but I sure experienced it.
26:24I was brought to conviction.
26:26When you're brought
26:27to conviction,
26:27God brings you to a place
26:29where you can open
26:29a door of repentance.
26:31If you're not convicted,
26:32you don't repent.
26:33The preacher that gets caught,
26:35the deacon that gets caught,
26:36or whatever,
26:37whoever you might be,
26:38you get caught
26:39and you pray
26:40and everybody's happy.
26:41Hallelujah.
26:42But the truth of the matter is,
26:44until the Holy Ghost
26:46works grace in your heart
26:49and brings you to a place
26:51of real repentance,
26:53you're not going to change.
26:56There's a big evangelist.
26:5830, 40 years ago,
26:59got up on a stage,
27:01wept tears.
27:02He was caught
27:03seeing a prostitute.
27:05Wept tears.
27:06Horrible.
27:07I mean, it was terrible.
27:08He said,
27:08against thee have I sinned.
27:10I'm not trying to make fun.
27:11I'm trying to teach.
27:12He did all of this.
27:16Why?
27:16He got caught.
27:18Pressure.
27:19He had to do something.
27:20What am I going to do?
27:21So he was prepared
27:23and he got in front of thousands,
27:25tens of thousands of people.
27:27And he said all of that.
27:29I said in my soul,
27:30I hope that it's real.
27:33But no, my friend.
27:35No, no, no.
27:36It wasn't that long after that
27:38that in California,
27:40he got caught again.
27:42Doing the same thing.
27:45What happened?
27:46Somewhere, I pray after that,
27:49somewhere a work of grace
27:51took place in his heart.
27:53And he comes down off
27:54of the self-righteous.
27:56He comes down off
27:57of this attitude
27:58that I'm above anything.
28:00And he gets a hold of God
28:01where God gets a hold of him.
28:03And he realizes
28:04that he's a sinner.
28:05He realizes
28:06he's got to be saved.
28:07He realizes
28:07he's got to be cleansed.
28:09And only God
28:10can put that in the soul.
28:12And then when he does that,
28:14he gets right with the Lord
28:15and real repentance
28:16takes place.
28:18He's turned then
28:19from what he was
28:20into a new man.
28:22That's what happened
28:22to me in 1973.
28:24When I raised my head up,
28:26I knew that I was
28:27a new man.
28:29You don't know
28:29what all I had
28:30in my life
28:31before then.
28:32God does.
28:33And that's why
28:33I keep talking about it.
28:35I know where I came from.
28:37I know where he found me.
28:39I know what I was.
28:40And I praise his blessed name
28:42to this day,
28:43now to this day,
28:44for what he did for me,
28:46where he found me,
28:47where he changed me.
28:49I didn't go back
28:51to where I came from.
28:52I knew I was different.
28:53It changed.
28:54No more that.
28:55No more.
28:56No more.
28:57No more.
28:59He put a different
29:00love in me,
29:01a different desire in me.
29:02I love Christ now.
29:04I didn't love him then.
29:05That is repentance.
29:07Oh, how he changed me.
29:10Oh my, how he changed me.
29:13But I say this too.
29:14I have to say this
29:15to be honest.
29:16I wore him out
29:17where I worked.
29:19I was repenting every day.
29:21I mean,
29:22I did some heavy duty
29:23repenting.
29:23Why?
29:24Because I couldn't repent
29:24of everything
29:25the day I got saved.
29:26It's too much.
29:28Amen.
29:29The Holy Ghost
29:30starts working on your heart.
29:31He'll start cleaning you out.
29:33You don't get saved
29:34because he cleans you out.
29:36You get saved
29:36because you trust Christ.
29:38He'll take care
29:39of the cleaning out.
29:41And don't put the cart
29:41before the horse.
29:42Do you get a hold
29:43of what I'm saying?
29:44Amen.
29:45And I don't wish
29:46damnation on anybody.
29:48I pray that somewhere
29:49along the line
29:50that the people
29:51I'm talking about
29:52found true repentance
29:54and they got right
29:55with God.
29:56Pharaoh's repentance
29:57was no good
29:58because all he wanted
29:59was to be saved
30:00from circumstances.
30:01That's all he wanted.
30:02That's all he cared about.
30:03And if that's all
30:04you've got in your mind today,
30:05that's no repentance.
30:06And you're going to go
30:07right back to where
30:07you came from.
30:09But if you let God
30:10work in your heart,
30:11if you let him
30:12take these circumstances
30:13and begin to speak to you,
30:15talk to you,
30:16work with you,
30:17lead you,
30:18guide you,
30:19you'll be amazed
30:20at how he'll draw you
30:21by cords of grace
30:22and mercy.
30:23He'll draw you
30:24to himself.
30:25He'll begin to open up
30:26the inside.
30:27He'll show you
30:28who you really are.
30:30You'll stop making
30:30excuses for it.
30:32You'll stop hiding
30:32behind people.
30:34You'll say,
30:34oh God,
30:35this is who I am.
30:36God,
30:37have mercy on me.
30:38You'll be like
30:38that old boy
30:39that walked up
30:40and didn't have anything
30:40else to say
30:41before the Lord.
30:41But God,
30:42be merciful to me,
30:43a sinner.
30:44Just be merciful.
30:46You'll be like
30:47the thief on the cross
30:48that looked over at him
30:48and said,
30:49remember me.
30:51Remember me.
30:52That's what I want
30:53for you.
30:53With all of my heart,
30:54I want that for you.
30:55I really do.
30:56I want that for you
30:57because we live
30:58in a generation
30:59of perverts
31:00when it comes
31:01to preaching
31:01the word of God.
31:02Yes,
31:02it is.
31:03Yes,
31:03it is.
31:04This intellectual salvation
31:05is a bunch of garbage.
31:07If you haven't repented,
31:08you don't know him.
31:10You don't know him.
31:11You don't know him.
31:12What was I
31:13when I came to him?
31:14Preacher,
31:15I was dirty.
31:16I was rotten.
31:17I was low down.
31:18I was reading
31:20a thing about
31:20Edward VIII,
31:22King of England.
31:23You all know
31:24Edward VIII.
31:25He's the one
31:26who abdicated
31:27the throne of England
31:29for Wallace Simpson,
31:30an American.
31:32And he married her
31:32and he abdicated
31:33the throne
31:34because he did.
31:36Queen Elizabeth II
31:37became the queen
31:38through her father
31:39who was second in line
31:41to Edward VIII.
31:43She became the queen.
31:44Had he not done that,
31:45she would have
31:45never been the queen.
31:47But there's something
31:47about him
31:48a lot of people
31:48don't know.
31:50He was 1914,
31:52Great Britain,
31:53was in a war.
31:55He would go
31:56out to the battlefield.
31:58He'd go up
31:59to the troops.
32:00They loved him.
32:01Here's a royalty.
32:02Here's the prince of Wales.
32:04Here's the next king
32:04of England.
32:05And here he is
32:06out here with us.
32:06He was a prince
32:07at that time,
32:08young man.
32:08And he's out here
32:09with us,
32:10he's passarding his life.
32:12He'd go around them,
32:13encourage them,
32:14cheer them up.
32:15One time he visited
32:16the hospital.
32:18You know how
32:19that veterans
32:20could go off
32:21to war
32:22and get blown
32:22all to pieces,
32:23get tore up.
32:24Do you see it on TV?
32:26Do you see their legs
32:26blown off,
32:27their arms blown off,
32:28their faces blown off?
32:30I personally think
32:31that they ought
32:31to take photographs
32:32of these veterans
32:33and believe me,
32:34believe me,
32:35believe me,
32:35I am pro-veteran.
32:39I'm a veteran
32:39but not a combat veteran.
32:41They ought to take
32:42these photographs
32:43of these veterans
32:44and they ought to
32:44hang them on the walls
32:45at Wall Street.
32:48They ought to put them
32:48up there
32:48with the movers
32:49and shakers
32:49that are making
32:50millions and billions
32:51of dollars.
32:52It's not that that's wrong
32:53for them to make money.
32:54I'm not saying that's wrong
32:55but they ought to appreciate
32:56the fact that somebody
32:57paid a heavy price.
33:00But anyway,
33:00let me get back
33:01the story.
33:03So he goes into this hospital
33:05and he says,
33:07I want to see the veterans.
33:08I want to see
33:09the combat veterans.
33:11And so they took him
33:12and showed him the veterans.
33:13He said,
33:14didn't you tell me
33:14there was 96 or 97 here?
33:16Yes, they said.
33:17But there's six of them.
33:19We just can't show people.
33:21They're just too terribly maimed.
33:23He said,
33:23I want to see them.
33:25So they took him
33:26back in the back
33:27and brought them out.
33:29He looked at each one of them
33:30and, you know,
33:31was very gracious
33:32and kind to them.
33:33Well, there's only five.
33:35He said,
33:35you told me there were six.
33:37Well, they said,
33:37there's one more.
33:39But please,
33:40you don't want to see him.
33:41He's terribly maimed.
33:43Now, I'm telling you the truth.
33:45He's terribly maimed.
33:46He's horrible condition.
33:48I mean,
33:49he was blown all to pieces
33:50in World War I.
33:52Awful.
33:52We have to keep him
33:53back in the dark.
33:55I want to see him.
33:57The Prince of Wales says,
33:58I want to see him.
34:00So they took him
34:00back into the dark
34:02where this man was,
34:03this young man.
34:04He walked up to him.
34:06He was shocked
34:07at what he saw.
34:08Terribly maimed.
34:11Then he reached over
34:12and he kissed him.
34:21That's what Christ did
34:22for me.
34:23I was terribly maimed.
34:28Blown all to pieces.
34:30Oh yeah.
34:31Oh yeah.
34:32Oh yeah.
34:32Torn up.
34:34I looked like a tiger
34:35had been a hold of me.
34:36Torn me too.
34:37That's what sin does for you.
34:39Listen people,
34:40I was in bad shape
34:41when God saved me.
34:42I don't give the devil
34:43any credit this morning.
34:44I want you to understand
34:45something.
34:45If he can save me,
34:46he can save anybody.
34:46And he kissed me.
34:54Who are you this morning?
35:00This is not some big shot place.
35:03This is a place
35:03where we talk to sinners.
35:06I tell them all the time.
35:08How should a sinner
35:10deal with another sinner?
35:12Somebody said,
35:12well I'm not a sinner.
35:13Don't kid yourself.
35:14Don't kid yourself.
35:16You want to get help today?
35:18You come to the one
35:19who will reach over there
35:20and kiss you.
35:22Regardless of how ugly,
35:24defiled,
35:25dirty,
35:26vile,
35:27corrupt you may be.
35:29He'll kiss you.
35:30He'll wrap his arms around you.
35:31And he'll welcome you in
35:33because he died for you
35:34on the cross.
35:35Amen.
35:37Father in Jesus name.
35:39I thank you Lord
35:40for what Edward did.
35:42He showed grace.
35:43He showed fortitude.
35:46He identified
35:47with these veterans.
35:50From what I've read,
35:51Lord,
35:51he even offered
35:52to go to the battlefield
35:53and fight
35:53but they wouldn't
35:54let him do it.
35:55So he must have been
35:56quite a man
35:57at that time of his life.
35:59Maybe we can learn
36:00something from that.
36:02Maybe we can learn
36:03there may be someone
36:03in the house this morning,
36:04someone watching this thing,
36:05watch it later.
36:07They just feel like
36:08they're too dirty
36:08or too low down.
36:10They're too sorry.
36:11They're too vile.
36:13They may say,
36:14preacher,
36:14you don't know
36:14what I've done.
36:15I don't need to know
36:15what you've done
36:16but I know this.
36:17I know Christ died for you.
36:19I know he paid
36:20for your sin.
36:22He who knew no sin
36:23became sin for us
36:24that we might be made
36:26the righteousness
36:26of God in him.
36:28I know that.
36:29That's what your Bible says,
36:30Lord,
36:30and I believe your book.
36:32I pray for them.
36:34I pray for them.
36:35I pray they'd take
36:35the first step,
36:36Lord,
36:36it may be a journey.
36:38I don't know.
36:38I don't know.
36:39You're the only one
36:39that knows that
36:40but I pray they'd take
36:41the first step
36:42this morning
36:42and come to you
36:45in Jesus' name.
36:47And hit the bow
36:48with nobody looking.
36:49I want to help
36:49somebody this morning.
36:50Anybody in this house
36:51today say,
36:52Preacher Lawson,
36:53I'm pretty bad.
36:57I'm pretty vile.
36:58I'm pretty corrupt
36:58and I need help.
37:00Well,
37:01you won't get it
37:01from a man
37:02but you'll get it
37:02from God.
37:04Would you raise your hand
37:05and say,
37:06pray for me,
37:06Preacher?
37:07Pray for me.
37:08God bless you.
37:09Amen.
37:10God bless you.
37:11God bless you.
37:12God bless you
37:13and I'll pray for you.
37:15Folks,
37:16I'm a minister
37:16of the gospel.
37:17This is not a pool hall.
37:19This is not a bingo parlor.
37:22I'm ministering
37:23the word of God to you.
37:24I'm doing what
37:25God's called me to do.
37:27Amen.
37:28You don't understand
37:28what I'm saying to you.
37:30I'm up here
37:30speaking to you
37:31and God wants you
37:33to hear
37:33what I'm saying.
37:35Would you raise your hand
37:36and say,
37:37pray for me,
37:37Preacher Lawson
37:38and I'll pray for you
37:39surely as you live.
37:40God bless you.
37:41Anybody else now?
37:43God bless you.
37:44God bless you.
37:44Father,
37:46thank you,
37:47Lord.
37:48You're a good God.
37:50Oh,
37:51how good you are.
37:55Oh,
37:55how deep you reach down.
37:59Hallelujah,
38:00hallelujah,
38:01hallelujah.
38:02Now,
38:03Lord,
38:03there'll be somebody
38:04in the house today,
38:05the devil's sifted them.
38:06Oh,
38:06he's sifted them.
38:07He's filled them
38:08full of hate
38:08and anger
38:09and jealousy,
38:10filled them full
38:11of self-pity even.
38:12He's filled them
38:12full of everything
38:13in the world,
38:13but the true light
38:15speak to their heart,
38:17speak to their soul.
38:19As that future king
38:21of England
38:21walked in
38:22amongst those
38:22who were so
38:23torn apart,
38:25Christ went
38:27to the cross
38:27and said,
38:28Father,
38:29it's finished.
38:31He died for them
38:32and he died for me
38:33and he died for you,
38:34dear friend.
38:35Why don't you come
38:36to him this morning?
38:38You never had
38:38a greater friend
38:39than him.
38:40You never had anybody
38:41that ever loved you
38:42more than him.
38:43You never had anybody
38:44that would accept you
38:45unconditionally
38:47more than him.
38:49You don't have to
38:50meet his standards.
38:51You don't have to
38:51work your way to him.
38:53Oh,
38:53no.
38:53You just come
38:55to him.
38:56Charlotte Elliott
38:57got it right.
38:58Just as I am
38:59without one plea,
39:02but that thy blood
39:03was shed for me.
39:05I come
39:06in thy name.
39:09Amen.
39:10While I stand up
