Une adolescente est élevée par un robot appelé "La Mère" dans un bunker dans le but d'assurer la survie de notre espèce après une catastrophe qui a dévasté la terre. Leur relation apparemment harmonieuse est perturbée lorsqu'une étrangère blessée atteint le bunker. La vision du monde de la fille, qui jusque-là ne reposait que sur les enseignements de La Mère, acquiert désormais une nouvelle perspective.
