00:23So first of all, what is this Ask Abogado app?

00:27And para saan ba ito?

00:29And ano yung naging inspirasyon nyo para buuhin tong app na ito?

00:34Well, maybe first we'll introduce yourselves.

00:37So my name is Julia.

00:38I'm the lawyer and CEO of Ask Abogado.

00:41I'm Mihal, and I'm a software engineer.

00:44And maybe a little backstory how we even get here.

00:47So we met each other in Spain during the student exchange program.

00:51And we fell in love there.

00:54We got engaged in Munich.

00:56And then COVID happened.

00:59So it was very difficult for us.

01:01We were separated for 18 months in the long distance relationship.

01:05And that was the first legal issue that we had to solve together.

01:10So we found the way to get married in Vegas.

01:13And then I was allowed during COVID to enter the Philippines.

01:17And now we are working together on Ask Abogado.

01:21Wow, what a beautiful story.

01:23So nag-start sa love story.

01:27Naging business.

01:28Pero ano yung inspiration talaga?

01:30Ito yung operational dito lang sa Pilipinas, right?

01:33Yes, that's right.

01:33We've actually only been operating for two months.

01:36So essentially, Ask Abogado is an online legal platform to help people connect with lawyers.

01:40Because if you don't know a lawyer, di ba, medyo mahilap maghanap na abogado.

01:44So unless you have the budget to go to a big law firm or you qualify for free legal aid, how do you find a lawyer?

01:49So we put together two fields, me as a lawyer and him as a software developer,

01:54and created a website so that people can book online consultations through askabogado.ph.

01:59There are secure payments online and the calls are also hosted through the platform.

02:04Well, pangkaran niyo bang problema yan, ano?

02:06Usually nakakatanggap tayo ng messages, may kilala ka bang abogado pa na ang expertise ay sa lupain o sa family.

02:15So ngayon, diretso na sa app na ito.

02:17Exactly.

02:18Hindi na siya mano-mano.

02:19Before kasi magkahanap ka na abogado, may kilala ka bang nag-handle ng tax problem

02:22or kilala ko i-register yung business ko.

02:25Or let's say may family problem kayo.

02:26So ngayon, you can just write, for example, I have a family problem.

02:30Tapos lahat ng lawyers na nag-handle ng family problems lalabas.

02:33Tapos you can see their fees on the platform up front and you can book their time.

02:37Okay, so hindi ito artificial intelligence, eh?

02:39No, it's not. It's real lawyers.

02:41So right now, we have about 75 lawyers on the platform already.

02:45And we've only been operating less than two months.

02:48So pwedeng i-modify, depende sa kaya pangangailangan mo, no?

02:53Kung kailangan mo ng lawyer regarding sa real estate.

02:55So itatayip mo lang kung baga doon.

02:57And then you can book a schedule.

02:59Yes.

02:59Okay, so I wanna know naman ato ni Julia, paano naman yung data privacy,

03:03yung protection naman ng mga kliyente, di ba?

03:06Of course, may, kung baga may privilege kasi yung client and lawyer, di ba?

03:10Privilege.

03:11So paano naman siya online?

03:13Paano mo siya na-

03:13How do you protect your clients?

03:15Yes, so we are using the newest technologies, the industry standards and one of the technologies

03:22where we store data is MongoDB.

03:24So they have encryption at rest, they have backups, so all the data is protected.

03:29Also, when we store files, they are accessible only by pre-signed URL that expires after a few minutes.

03:38So just to add additional layer of protection, make sure that someone else will not get access to those.

03:46And of course, client-lawyer privilege.

03:51From the technical side, we basically use all the industry standards, also the HTTPS protocol for transferring data to the users so they can feel safe.

04:02So two months pa lang itong company nyo, itong application.

04:06Well, what's your future plan?

04:08Five years from now, ano yung nakikita ninyo?

04:11Well, we hope actually that it will be more accessible throughout the entire Philippines.

04:14Right now, most of the lawyers are from Metro Manila, and so we invite lawyers from all over the Philippines to join the platform

04:20so that it becomes accessible on every island and every region.

04:24And we have some upcoming new features, but maybe abangan natin when we release it.

04:30I'm curious naman ako, attorney, paano yung fee?

04:33Yan, transparent ba kayo pagdating sa fee?

04:35Yes, actually, before you book the services, you can see the fees of the lawyers for 30 minutes and for 60 minutes,

04:41and then you can choose your lawyer.

04:43So depending what's your budget, depending on their practice area and their profile, you can select your lawyer.

04:48And maybe just as a teaser, in the next few months, we'll be launching also free Legal Aid Weekends

04:53in partnership with other organizations.

04:59Oh, well, actually, if you want to visit the platform, you can go to askabogato.ph and select your lawyer there.

05:05So if you need a lawyer and you don't know where to start, you can start at Ask Abogato.

05:08Well, sa load na yung two months, how many clients do you have already?

05:12Oh, I'm not sure we can disclose that at the moment.

05:14How was it so far, the operations? How was it?

05:17It was about the expectations, I think.

05:20So because we are doing everything by ourselves, then I think it's pretty successful so far.

05:27And we get also good feedback from the people using the platform that it's something that they really needed

05:34and they are grateful that we provided such a space.

05:38Actually, that was also the inspiration for creating this platform.

05:44Like, legal landscape look kind of similar in Poland.

05:46And I found myself in the situation where I needed a lawyer in Poland back then.

05:53And it was so difficult to find for the same issues.

05:56Like, I didn't see any profiles, platforms.

05:59Like, I wasn't able to check any background of the lawyer.

06:02And those are all the problems that we are trying to solve here.

06:06That's good coming from personal experience that you came up with the app.

06:12This is convenient and accessible to Filipino people.
