Tobi and BMitch react to the Nuggets firing head coach Michael Malone. The guys agree with former NBA player Paul Pierce, who recently said players don't have the patience to be coached hard anymore.

00:00It's easy to blame the coach or anybody else
00:03for why you're not getting to where you're going.
00:06But if you follow the person who's not reaching their full potential,
00:08I promise you, they're not working on their craft.
00:11They're not doing the extra stuff.
00:13They're BSing around all damn day
00:15while the coach is trying to get you to do the best.
00:18But if you find that owner who's going to side with you,
00:20then you can mess over that coach.
00:22You know?
00:23And listen, man, some coaches might be better leaving
00:25some of those areas like that.
00:27Because that's why I never wanted to coach.
00:29Because I know I wouldn't put up with a player's BS.
00:32And I damn sure don't want to talk to your parents.
00:35So I never wanted to be a coach
00:36because I have seen while I was playing
00:39the guy who does the least,
00:42who not the best,
00:44caused the most damn problems.
00:46And if his parent or anybody around me
00:49had any influence, the coach was screwed.
00:51And I hated that.
00:52So I never wanted to be a coach.
00:54Never.
00:55Yeah.
00:55I mean, that's a tough spot to be in.
00:57A couple other examples I can think of
00:59you've got to give credit to Arch Manning
01:01and his dad, Cooper,
01:03and obviously his grandfather, Arch, Archie.
01:05Like, this dude could have left Texas.
01:08Understanding the situation.
01:09He's willing to wait it out.
01:11And Sark's a tough coach.
01:12And now he's going to get an opportunity there.
01:14I respect Cooper more.
01:17I think Cooper wanted to do it.
01:18But Archie was like that at first.
01:20It was catering.
01:22But he's changed some as well.
01:24Yeah.
01:24Where he didn't go into like he did with Peyton,
01:26who's not playing here.
01:27No, I don't with Eli.
01:30Because let's be real.
01:32That, right there,
01:32that family normally wouldn't have put up with that.
01:34No.
01:35Maybe that player had to say, look,
01:36or either Peyton or Eli said something like that.
01:41Let him go through it.
01:42Yeah.
01:43You know, because a lot of times
01:44when you are putting your kids somewhere,
01:47you're doing them a disservice.
01:50Yeah.
01:50Because if they just get put there,
01:52they're going to have a lot of people on the team
01:54that don't like them.
01:55Well,
01:55they may not reach their full potential
01:56because of that.
01:57Another example of a coach going hard at his players,
02:00he won coach of the year this year,
02:02Rick Pitino.
02:04You got to give credit to the St. John's kids
02:06that went there understanding
02:07that Pitino's going to get on them.
02:08Yeah.
02:09But they won a heck of a lot more games
02:10than they were expected to win
02:12because they were able to take the coaching
02:13and turn it into something.
02:14When I saw him with that thing on TV,
02:17I was so happy to see it
02:20because in this day and age,
02:22when you see something like that,
02:23immediately everybody,
02:25and let's be real,
02:26a bunch of parents have become soft asses too.
02:29Oh, big time.
02:30Because as soon as they see it,
02:30they want to complain about everything.
02:32Well, my kid,
02:33and then when your kid goes somewhere else
02:35and end up getting in trouble later in life
02:36because they never corrected him the first time,
02:38you blame everybody else
02:39instead of blaming yourself.
02:40And the crazy part about it, B-Mitch,
02:42is, look, I'm not a parent.
02:43I'm not even that old,
02:45so I can't talk for a lot of stuff.
02:48But the crazy part is seeing former athletes
02:51at whatever level that are notable,
02:53and then their kids are in something,
02:56and they're getting coached hard,
02:57and then they complain about
02:58their kid getting coached hard
03:00when if they were in the same situation,
03:01they'd come back five years later and say,
03:03I'm glad that coach coached me hard.
03:05Then let the coach coach.
03:07Yeah.
03:07Let the dude do his job.
03:09A lot of those people came in the same era,
03:11or they came in a time where,
03:14you know,
03:14parents started trying to be their kids' friends.
03:18I got enough damn friends.
03:20My kids don't need to be my friends.
03:21You know how we can fix college basketball, B-Mitch?
03:24Give everybody participation trophies, right?
03:26No, we're not.
03:27That's how we fix all this.
03:28I just don't understand some of this stuff.
03:30Like, if that's truly the case,
03:32I don't know if that's really the case
03:34as to why Michael Malone's let go.
03:36I don't know if that's what happens
03:36with Taylor Jenkins.
03:37I kind of doubt that's exactly what it is.
03:40It may not be just the only reason,
03:42but it's part of it.
03:43Yeah.
03:43If that plays into it,
03:44then miss me with that.
03:46Like, you can't handle hard coaching
03:48and you're at the NBA.
03:49The goal is to win a championship.
03:51Like Paul Pierce said,
03:52you're making a lot of money
03:54and you can't get on the line
03:55to do what your coach asks.
03:56I understand if it's too far across the line.
03:59Last I checked,
04:00Michael Malone isn't doing all that, right?
04:01He won an NBA championship.
04:03He's got credentials
04:04that he can ask you to do some things
04:06on the basketball court.
