J Shaw and Son, of Louth have been nominated Lincolnshire's loose fruit and veg champions during Lincolnshire County Council's food waste week.
Transcript
00:00Across Lincolnshire we've been supporting Food Waste Action Week which this year is about shopping
00:05savvy, buying loose fruit and veg and cutting waste. We asked you to nominate your Lincolnshire
00:09Loose Fruit and Veg Champion. Thank you for all of your votes, more than 20 amazing local
00:15businesses were nominated but today we've come to the village of Alvingham near Louth to meet
00:20your winner Jay Short and Son and present them with a special certificate. Congratulations how
00:27does it feel to be recognised as Lincolnshire's Loose Fruit and Veg Champion? Really humbling,
00:34there's lots of independent Loose Fruit and Veg Champions across the county so we're really
00:39grateful to our customers who nominated us. So you've been selling fruit and veg in your family
00:45since 1902 to the people of Lincolnshire, what's the secret of this of your long success? Dad's always
00:52said to just really concentrate on doing a great job for our customers and focusing on customers
00:56if ever I've had any concerns that's what dad always says to go back to the customers.
01:01Having a great team of people around you, you know Team Shore, over the generations we've had lots of
01:07different people that have worked for us and you know made it the place that it is. Suppliers,
01:12fantastic local suppliers, we've got lots of local businesses that bring products for us to sell,
01:19we've got local hunnage from just down the road at Fen Lane, we've got Alvingham coffee from just
01:24literally the next farm along, Parklington's bakery, so lots of local people but then we also have
01:31Grain of Truth bakery that bring across from Lincoln so we're really lucky so we've got lots of great
01:36supply network. There have been some absolutely lovely comments about the shop, one person described
01:41you as the soul of the village, how does that make you feel and was there anything you'd like to say
01:46to your customers? Yeah I mean I think that's a really great description and I think I know the customer
01:52that did comment that and yeah some days it's just more like a social hub here than it is a shop
01:58sometimes which is an amazing thing to have in a small village community. Small village shops are
02:03sort of few and far between so we're really proud that we're still here able to serve our community.
02:07That's brilliant, congratulations on your award again, well done. Thank you.
