00:00And then yesterday when I saw him diving on the ice and sliding I just thought it was like it was like reminiscing all over again just the greatest moments of my life, watching it, even a guy that's been an arch rival of mine with the penguins my entire life.
00:17Scotty, you honor me when you put me in the same sentence with Mike Lang and Bob Miller.
00:23And there's a reason why I love visiting with you on this show and it's because I know about your passion for the sport and for the play-by-play craft.
00:33And to have everything fall just the way it did in the last three, four days, it's a sign that the hockey gods wanted it to be that way.
00:44That it was meant to be, that it landed on Monumental Sports Network and a live show, that Craig Laughlin was back from significant heart surgery to be there in the booth with us.
00:55It all lined up so perfectly and the goals that he scored and that he has scored throughout the last 20 years have been so breathtaking.
01:04And so many of them are similar, one-time slap shots from the left circle.
01:10So many of them are overpowering the way that 895 went in that you pray for those moments selfishly as an announcer.
01:21If this is going to be the one, let it be clean and clear.
01:25Let me see the net bulge, let there be no doubt, let there be no goalie interference or potential offside challenge.
01:32And it lined up perfectly for us and it was a magical environment.
01:37I can't explain to you how good Friday night was when he tied the great one in D.C.
01:43That was pretty much close to Stanley Cup final fever pitch, only happy.
01:49There was no anxiety there.
01:51There was no, are we going to win this, lose this?
01:53It was all about an individual player's moment.
01:56He scores in the first five minutes of the game and everybody is buzzing.
01:59There were chances for him to get the record that night with a hat trick, which really would have been storybook.
02:05But the way it turned out yesterday, droves.
02:08And I mean, Capitals fans by the thousands inside of the arena at UBS.
02:12It was magical and it's something obviously that's once in a lifetime for me and could very well last a lifetime.
02:20Well, uh, you know, we were, we were doing the show Friday night and we were predicting that he would have a Hattie.
02:28Uh, I was, I said, he's going to have three tonight playing that team.
02:32And then Carver Hodge said, no, he's going to do it at the horse track on Sunday.
02:37He had said that all along.
02:39Uh, when he, when he, I gotta tell you when he did it, I got, I got choked up.
02:46Yeah.
02:47What was it like for you?
02:49I, I, I don't even like, I respect him so much as an enemy of my team, but I respect, I hated the Islanders, but I respected Mike bossy so much.
03:01And I respect this guy so much that I got off.
03:05I got all flustered.
03:07And my daughter was like, are you crying?
03:09I was like, get out, get out of the route.
03:11Like, you have no idea what it means to someone that loves the game as much as you and I do.
03:17What did it, what did it do to your soul, to your body?
03:21Did you get, did you get weird or funky job?
03:25Oh, it's nerve wracking and teary eyed for sure.
03:30Teary eyed for sure on Friday, without a doubt.
03:33And every time the cameras landed on Alex's boys, Sergei and Ilya, every time the camera landed on Alex's mom, Tatiana, wife, Nastia, you can't help but think of Mikhail, Alex's dad, who gave me more than a few big bear hugs over the last two decades while his son was doing such incredible work on the ice and who loved the game.
04:03The way we all do.
04:05This is a crowning achievement.
04:08It's an individual achievement.
04:10Alex is all about team.
04:12I think at the end, it's so humbling.
04:14And you want to, there's, there's a 23 minute, 24 minute ceremony.
04:18And, and all the while I know the, the competitor in Ovechkin is saying, can we please get back to the game?
04:24He appreciated what the Islanders did for him yesterday.
04:27I heard, I heard Sidney Crosby's comments, a good 92nd to two minute rip of comments, the mutual respect that he shared with the grade eight.
04:38And those two kids, those two guys who are soon to be pushing 40 years old, they came in at a rough time in 2005 and six.
04:45They had a lot of responsibilities put on their shoulders and they've overachieved.
04:49They've been world-class ambassadors, Sid and Alex, and they, they know what each other has gone through and to see and listen to Sidney react and marvel at what Alex has done.
05:01It's, it's truly, it's close to superhuman 895 goals.
