00:00Joseph, it is time to talk about the most dropped players.
00:03There's one player who's already gone down to AAA.
00:06There's another player who's been suspended.
00:09So let's have this conversation.
00:10Where do you want to go first?
00:12Well, let's talk about Bednar here,
00:14because Bednar was supposed to be the closer for the Pirates
00:17going into this year.
00:18That was a little tenuous.
00:19And, well, the first couple outings did not go so great.
00:23So they ended up opting him to AAA.
00:25So in the meantime, Dennis Santana and Colin Holderman
00:28are the top candidates for saves.
00:29Now, I watched Holderman pitch.
00:31He didn't look great trying to hold the eighth inning
00:35against the Rays last week when I watched him.
00:37Santana ended up coming in and getting the save
00:39in that game eventually.
00:40So Santana seems to be, like, the guy for now.
00:43The question is, do you hold Bednar
00:44as he tries to get right in AAA?
00:47That becomes the big question.
00:49I think the answer is no.
00:50I'm not holding on to him.
00:51If Luke Jackson's available, if Santana's available,
00:53I'm just making this straight move personally,
00:56because Bednar going into the season
00:57was already a little rough.
00:59If you start to look at the deeper numbers on him,
01:03they haven't been very good.
01:05If you're looking at the trend lines,
01:07they've all been going in the wrong direction.
01:08And Bednar at one point was a pretty cost-effective closer,
01:12right?
01:12A guy who's like, oh, he's the closer of the Pirates.
01:14You know, you go back all the way to just a 20-23.
01:17Pretty solid.
01:17A two ERA the year before that.
01:19A 2-6 ERA, 2-23.
01:20He's always been in that range.
01:22Not a dominant strikeout guy, but a guy getting out.
01:24And then last year, that ERA ballooned to 5-7-7.
01:28So that was over a whole season of 57 innings as the closer.
01:32It was not good for him.
01:33He blew a lot of saves.
01:34So I think they were trying to give him
01:35the benefit of the doubt going into this year.
01:37And so far, it's just been doubt now.
01:39And now they've moved to a AAA, and it
01:41seems like Bednar is going to, until he figures things out,
01:44not only does he have to figure things out
01:46to get better to move back to the major leagues,
01:48but then if Santana, let's say, is dominant in that role,
01:51why are you making that pivot?
01:52What are you doing that for?
01:53Bednar would just work the eighth or somewhere else.
01:55So it's not a guarantee he even gets that job back.
01:57So I'm a drop of Bednar.
01:59But I'm curious, in this competitive save landscape
02:04that we're always looking for saves wherever we can get them,
02:06is Bednar a hold for you?
02:07Or will you be dropping him to the waiver wire as well?
02:10Joseph, let me answer you in song.
02:14I'm sorry, Luke Jackson.
02:16I am for real.
02:18Never meant to make the Rangers cry.
02:20No, no, here's the thing, dude.
02:21David Bednar's in AAA.
02:22And if you love David Bednar, and you drafted David Bednar,
02:25and you don't want to drop David Bednar,
02:26I want to be in a league with you.
02:28Because here's what I do.
02:29I find out the David Bednar manager, and bam,
02:31I'm dropping a trade on him now.
02:33I don't know when he's going to trade in April,
02:34but still, some of these people panic.
02:36No, I'm not holding on to David Bednar.
02:38You mentioned Santana, Holderman, Luke Jackson.
02:41There's so many guys out there.
02:43You can stream saves.
02:44Don't knock yourself out.
02:45Don't pull your hair out over something like this.
02:47He'll end up looking like Joe.
02:48And the problem with that is you'll
02:49never be as smart as him.
02:51And that's the thing.
02:51Now, you're just, you're ugly and you're dumb.
02:54Now, what are you going to do?
02:54All right, you're not ugly.
02:55You're actually a very handsome man.
02:57You give great face.
02:58Very good.
02:59Talk to me about this next outfielder
03:01that has been mulched around.
03:03Well, we started the whole show with Jerickson Profar,
03:07who, 80 game suspension.
03:09And in 99.9% of leagues, it's really difficult
03:13to hold this guy, because you can't IL him.
03:14He's not on the injured list.
03:15He's just taking up a bench spot.
03:17So in shallow leagues, you absolutely cut him.
03:19Deeper leagues become a little bit more of a conversation.
03:21But if you're looking around at who's out there,
03:23the Victor Scott's of the world, you know,
03:25we talked about him last week on The Wayward Wire.
03:27He's all the way up to 71%.
03:29Still available in 30% of leagues.
03:31If you're looking for Mangum of Tampa Bay,
03:36Roden on Toronto, there's a lot of guys out there
03:40in the outfield that you can start to speculate on,
03:43that even a couple other players we're going to talk
03:45about coming up too, that I think are far more worthy
03:48of a roster spot than waiting on Profar
03:50halfway through the season.
03:51If you really like Profar and you want to get back
03:53into the business, drop him now,
03:56and then hope that somebody else doesn't pick him up.
03:58I don't think they will.
03:59And then eventually you try to, you know,
04:02somewhere around June, pick him back up
04:04and hope that you can stash him again as he's coming back.
04:06That's the best case scenario for Profar.
04:08But Matt, he's just a terrible anchor
04:11on your roster at this point.
04:12You can't do it, right?
