00:00First down! Yes, that's right. I am here with Rashad White, you know, Tampa Bay
00:07Buccaneers running back, who's got a knack for getting these first downs.
00:12He's good at it, one of the best third down backs in the league and one of the best
00:15blocking backs in the league. Let's go for a walk.
00:20Frank Walsh, Frank Walsh, it's time for Frank Walsh.
00:30Now, you have a reputation of being one of the best blocking running backs in the league.
00:41Yeah. And this comes from that game in Germany,
00:45when you just laid out that poor Seahawk defender.
00:50Yeah. What? Seahawks.
00:55Well, he's also done things against the Saints, too. He's caught touchdown passes,
01:00but the one in Germany was the Seahawks. Yeah.
01:04What does it feel like just to, like, this defender's about to make a play,
01:09and then you just, like, knock him out of the way, and all of a sudden,
01:12your team makes a big score, or a first down.
01:17It was huge, man, especially for me being a rookie that year. It was amazing.
01:23I will never forget that moment, just, you know, getting the play call and going through,
01:28and the guy was just in the way. And he was a good safety at the time.
01:32I remember we was talking about all week, and he's still good, though,
01:35at the Quandary Digs, and, you know, just remember talking about him all week
01:39and stuff like that, and, you know, I was trying to do anything I can to help the team win
01:44and do my job, and he was just kind of in the way.
01:47And it just took over me, like, kind of get out the way.
01:50Now, you've worked hard to get to where you're at.
01:53I see that you started in junior colleges and went to, before finally getting a shot at Arizona State.
02:00Yeah.
02:01So what was that journey like to get from small schools over here to Arizona State
02:08to be drafted in the second round?
02:11Man, it was long, you know.
02:14It was some tough nights, great memories, great moments.
02:19Going out in California, I'd never been there in my life,
02:21and I remember I was going home just telling my mom that I was leaving.
02:25I'm from Kansas City, Missouri, originally.
02:27Never been to California in my life.
02:28I'm a 17-, 18-year-old just telling my mom.
02:30I had a scholarship division, too, at the time, and I was just going home telling her I'm leaving.
02:35And, you know, sometimes your parents just the look on their face,
02:39and she had this crazy look on her face like, you know, like, what are you talking about?
02:43And I just told her, and I was big on taking risks.
02:46So just going through that journey, man, it was tough.
02:49It was hard.
02:50It was sleepless nights.
02:52But I had great memories.
02:53I had great teammates, made great friends that, you know, we still talk to this day,
02:58and they still come out and see me, and they get to see me at the highest level.
03:01So that means a lot, man.
03:04And this journey got you to the NFL where you're playing with the GOAT, Tom Brady.
03:12Yeah.
03:13I mean, you're catching passes from Tom Brady.
03:14You're getting the ball from Tom Brady.
03:17What was it like to play with Tom Brady?
03:19He's this icon of icons.
03:22Well, it was great, especially like how I grew up.
03:25I've always been a natural, great pass catcher.
03:27I got three older brothers, so we always just tossed the pigskin around a little bit
03:31and get them out outside.
03:33And I always just have a football with me, just throwing it up in the air.
03:36So going into that situation, I knew Tom was great at, you know, giving his backs the ball
03:44and, you know, going through his reads real fast and checking it down.
03:48Yeah, he's always going back to Kevin Falk.
03:51He's always found ways to make his running backs just excel.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah, so, I mean, you knew that.
03:59So you knew he was going to get the ball, and I knew I was going to get the ball in space.
04:02I knew I was coming in, Chris Godwin.
04:04I mean, we have Mike, and we got Mike, Chris Godwin, Julio.
04:07I mean, we had a loaded roster of, like, receivers, like, talented-wise
04:11and guys that put a lot of work in this league.
04:13So I knew if they played, you know, everybody dropped back, I knew I would get the ball a lot.
04:18It would be a lot of space.
04:19So, you know, I was just trying to make plays.
04:21And when my number was called, my name was called, and I came in the league.
04:24Obviously, I had Leonard Frenette and stuff in my room and things like that.
04:27And Giovanni Bernard.
04:29Yes, yes.
04:30Yeah, got to give Giovanni some credit, man.
04:32I still talk to him to this day, man.
04:34He guides me still to this day.
04:36And, you know, you've had nothing but success so far.
04:39You've been in the playoffs every season.
04:41You've won the – in fact, the NFC South has gone through Tampa every year.
04:47Yeah, and when I was coming in, it was crazy because I would always just, like,
04:52kind of annoy Mike and pick their brain and Levante and stuff like that.
04:56And, you know, he was always – Mike was always trying to tell me to cherish this,
04:59things like that.
05:00He said he played, like, what, I think his first, what, seven or so plus
05:04or however many years.
05:06It was probably more than that.
05:07And he never been to the playoffs.
05:09And, you know, it was some dark moments and things like that.
05:12So, he always told me, like, cherish this and stuff like that.
05:15So, I've been blessed, man.
05:16I've been fortunate.
05:17I came into a great situation.
05:19And, yeah, I'm grateful.
05:21Now, Tampa's got – basically your entire team is going to be coming back next year.
05:26Right.
05:27You're going to have a new offensive coordinator.
05:29Right.
05:30Cone got a chance in Jacksonville.
05:33Yeah.
05:34You got this guy Fritz.
05:35Yeah.
05:36Yeah.
05:37We got Grizzard.
05:38Grizzard.
05:39Grizzard.
05:40We got Grizz.
05:41Grizz.
05:42And we love Grizz.
05:43Obviously, he was our passing game coordinator last year,
05:45drew up a lot of good plays for us, helped us out, you know,
05:50with a lot of different things that we did,
05:52a lot of different looks that we threw at teams.
05:54And we still got the whole staff coming back.
05:58So, it should be good.
05:59Like you said, we got the same team, so we're going to be really good.
06:01And Baker Mayfield has found a nice groove in it.
06:03Yeah.
06:04In Tampa.
06:05Yep.
06:06Now, when you're playing, you're one of these running backs that is patient,
06:11that waits to hit the hole.
06:12Right.
06:13What goes into your style of running?
06:16Man, I really can't tell you.
06:18I've just been running the ball like that my whole life, you know,
06:21and it's a different type of style of running the ball.
06:24And that's the thing sometimes.
06:26You know, some people like it and some people don't.
06:29Think about me, I just try to utilize my vision as much as I can.
06:34Sometimes that requires patience.
06:36Sometimes that doesn't.
06:38And for me, just being a taller, being a bigger back,
06:41I try to make sure I can be able to slither,
06:44and sometimes you got to get skinny.
06:46So, I'll say that's the biggest thing, man.
06:48When it comes to me, of course, I love plays like power, stuff like that.
06:51I like guys pulling in front of me.
06:53That's the way I can utilize my patience more.
06:55And then just understanding, like, some plays requires me to use my patience
06:59and be me, and some plays require me as the league.
07:01So, we got to go.
07:02I mean, I think the key to success for any good offense is the offensive line.
07:08Right.
07:09I mean, those guys, and you think about the offensive linemen,
07:13you only hear their name when they fuck up, when they don't make a play.
07:17Don't make a play.
07:18But you see the touchdowns.
07:20You see the scores.
07:21Yeah.
07:22But they don't get the respect they deserve, the offensive line.
07:26Right.
07:27And that's a great part about it right now.
07:30Like, you know, offensive linemen, they're getting paid well,
07:32and that's some of the credit that goes to the work they put in.
07:36And I would say, too, just, yeah, I was listening to Deion Dawkins
07:39and stuff like that, his press conference,
07:41and him talking about offensive linemen need an award
07:43and, you know, just being a running back and just being –
07:46there needs to be an award for the offensive line.
07:48Yeah, for sure.
07:49I felt that for a long time.
07:50For sure.
07:51For sure.
07:52And it needs to be some recognition for them guys.
07:54And besides, like, you know, just pay.
07:57It needs to be some accolades for them guys.
07:59And it needs to be some respect.
08:01So, I'm with you on that.
08:02And our offensive line has come a long way.
08:04Guys have put in a lot of work.
08:06And, you know, we have got better.
08:08We have gotten better over the years.
08:10And, yeah, like you said, we're looking real good, man.
08:12We got a great running game.
08:13We got a great running back room.
08:15We're going to be straight.
08:16Well, do you have any charities that you work on
08:19or anything like that you want to talk about?
08:22I don't really – I mean, I partner with a lot of different things
08:26like Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay.
08:28Of course, you're wearing the Psycho Bunny jacket.
08:30Yeah, yeah.
08:31So, you know, I mess with Psycho Bunny.
08:32Me and Psycho Bunny do our thing.
08:33And so shout-out to Psycho Bunny for, you know, showing me love
08:36and hooking me up with the freshest and nice gear.
08:39I like to stay fresh.
08:40That's just who I am.
08:41I'm a swaggy dude.
08:42And I would say shout-out to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
08:44I grew up a part of the program, and I like to do things with them.
08:47One more thing.
08:48I got a camp coming up.
08:49I'm going to actually do it in – I got a camp in Tampa.
08:52I'm going to have the details soon.
08:53But I also got a football camp in Orlando too.
08:56Oh, nice.
08:57Because they don't got a football team.
08:58So I want to go out there and show love.
08:59That's good.
09:00These camps are how you get the next generation.
09:01Right.
09:02And I want to go out there and show love.
09:03And how you build your fan base too, I've always felt.
09:05Yep.
09:06You know, we got a big Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan that works with us.
09:09Yeah.
09:10Steven Shea.
09:11And a lot of times we're sitting around watching the games.
09:13And every time the Buccaneers get a first down, he just does this.
09:20And it drives everyone nuts.
09:25Yeah, Steven.
09:26Oh, you want to do this one, Steven, just once?
09:28When I get a first down?
09:29Yeah.
09:30Do one of these.
09:31Yeah, I'll get it right.
09:33That's how you do it right there?
09:35Yes, like that.
09:36Yeah, I'll get it right when I do a first down for sure.
09:39You know, I actually live in a town called Belleville.
09:42Okay.
09:43And we just changed our logo.
09:44But we were the Belleville Buccaneers in New Jersey.
09:47Yep.
09:48And they changed the logo so they got a new, more fierce looking pirate.
09:53But we had the retro Buccaneers logo only blue and yellow.
09:56Okay.
09:57In the town I live in, Belleville, New Jersey.
09:59Okay.
10:00And of course, the retro uniform comes out a couple times a year.
10:02Yep.
10:03Everyone loves the creamsicles.
10:04Right.
10:05I mean, they're just classic.
10:06For sure, for sure.
10:07And we love them too.
10:08We got to get a dub in them this year.
10:11But we ain't got a dub in them the past two years we've won.
10:14So we got to win in them this year for sure.
10:16But, yeah, we love them.
10:18I think they're swaggy.
10:20We love what they have done.
10:21Like, you know, obviously with Uncle Tom.
10:24The old school.
10:25Yes.
10:26The old school.
10:27I always love the old school.
10:28Yeah.
10:29You always got to pay homage for sure.
10:30All right.
10:31Well, thank you for joining us.
10:32No problem, man.
10:33It was a good time.
10:34And good luck this season.
10:35No problem.
10:37And hey, hey, Tampa Bay.
10:38Yeah.
10:39You know what we do.
10:40First down.
