00:24helmet along Jalan Utama Cheng on March 27, causing him injuries.
00:30The charge was framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt
00:35by dangerous means or weapons, which carries a prison term of up to 10 years, a fine, caning
00:40or any combination of the two, upon conviction.
00:44Unrepresented, Arif Izzat pleaded for a lighter sentence, citing financial struggles, family
00:50responsibilities, and outstanding business debts.
00:53However, Prosecuting Officer Inspector T Veeramuthu sought an appropriate punishment, noting that
00:59the incident had gained widespread attention after going viral on social media.
01:05The court fined Arif Izzat 3,500 ringgit, with six months' jail in default.
01:11Police had arrested the trader on March 29 after a 17-second viral video showed a man
01:17being assaulted with a helmet and collapsing on the road.
01:21Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the altercation was
01:26believed to have stemmed from a road dispute that escalated into violence.
