Approximately eight thousand metric tons of uncollected waste filled the streets of the Cochabamba municipality as residents in the area demanded the closure of the dumpster they say is affecting their health.

01:06According to the head of epidemiology of the Departmental Health Service of Cochabamba,
01:11Ruben Castillo, in the last two weeks, there has been an increase in cases related to acute
01:17diarrheal diseases and hepatitis that could indicate a relation with the accumulation
01:22of garbage in the streets and avenues.
01:25The pollution from these solid waste that we usually discard tends to have an impact
01:32on health.
01:33It's been two weeks and coincidentally, in the last two weeks, there has been an increase
01:38in cases related to acute diarrheal diseases.
01:43Hepatitis cases have also increased.
01:45And that could indicate a relation that has this health problem that we currently have.
01:53Due to the garbage problem, the Mayor's Office and the Cochabamba Municipal Council
01:57decided to suspend the Day of the Pedestrian, scheduled for Sunday.
