UK weather update: London to be hotter than Ibiza and Crete
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05A mix of cloud and sunshine first thing, and a bit of a breeze coming in from the northeast. Here's your bigger picture.
00:11Notice this feature here. It's brought some showery rain overnight. It's clearing.
00:15High pressure sits towards the north of Scotland, casting an influence over our weather.
00:20The air is dry, but with an onshore breeze, things feeling a bit cool along the east coast.
00:25And there will be, again, quite a breeze today across many areas.
00:28Let's pick up on some detail then.
00:30Well, if you're stepping out first thing, you'll see some fine conditions as we head through this morning,
00:35particularly across more eastern areas with a clearer sky.
00:39More cloud across the west country, central, southern England, Wales, as well as Northern Ireland,
00:43and one or two sporadic bursts of rain, but they are fading away.
00:47At the same time, some low cloud shrouding Pennine districts and this band of cloud across Aberdeenshire,
00:53as well as Caithness, but brighter weather appearing across Shetland.
00:58Sunshine here turning rather hazy through the day.
01:01This north to northeasterly wind coming down from a cool direction will affect us as we head through the day.
01:07However, during the morning, the key feature is towards the west, the cloud will break,
01:12allowing for some lovely sunshine to come through.
01:14And most places seeing fine conditions, blue sky and sunny spells through the afternoon.
01:19It's a lovely day to be out and about.
01:21In Shelter, feeling warm along this east coast, a little bit fresh with that wind,
01:25but even so, you'll catch the sunshine as well.
01:27UV levels are on the up, so you may find during the middle part of the day you could burn if you have fair skin.
01:33Temperatures then 22, 23 down towards the southeast, 19 western Scotland, 16 or 17 in Shelter across Northern Ireland,
01:409 or 10 across eastern Scotland, 15 down towards Lincolnshire.
01:46Now, through this evening and overnight, notice the cloud yet again could just drift in from the east.
01:54Again, it's a bit chilly in places, even with a touch of frost, milder conditions towards more southern and western areas,
02:00and that wind continues through Saturday.
02:03So a bit more cloud to start the day, particularly across this eastern side,
02:06and it could cling on to the coastline through the afternoon.
02:09Even so, fine for most with some sunny spells and everywhere will be dry.
02:14Temperatures then around 16 or 17 in the west, around 12 in the east.
02:19Come Sunday, that cloud could be stubborn across more eastern and northeastern areas,
02:23but again burning back to the coast through the morning into the afternoon.
02:27So most of us will be bathed in some sunshine.
02:30The air is cooler, so we'll see temperatures 9, 10, 11 along this eastern side,
02:35further west coming in around the mid-teens at the very best.
02:38But we start next week fine and dry with some lovely sunshine.
02:42Temperatures again around 14 or 15 Celsius, perhaps a little bit more cloud across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:48Have an awesome day. See you later.
