00:00Anthony Albanese has delivered his pitch to Western Sydney
00:05as the party looks to defend what was once a stronghold
00:08from challenges from both the Liberals and Independents.
00:10After losing the once safe seat of Fowler
00:13to the Independent Dai Lee at the last election
00:15Labor's pitch this time around is centred on three themes
00:18healthcare, infrastructure and the cost of living.
00:21The PM's first stop in Sydney for the campaign
00:23was Cabramatta Public School in the heart of Fowler
00:25and South Western Sydney.
00:26School kids always love a visitor
00:28but it's their parents Labor needs to convince.
00:30Last election Labor made a decision that would prove disastrous
00:33running former Premier Christina Keneally from out of the area
00:36but now Tuli is their candidate.
00:38Anthony Albanese says with hindsight that was clearly an error.
00:42On Fowler, we of course, I acknowledge and said that at the time
00:48that's not the first time I've said that.
00:50That was an error. I thought it was an error.
00:53But your decision is not...
00:55At the time, no it wasn't my decision.
00:57Chris Hayes supported Tuli.
00:59Wasn't it you part of the push to put Keneally in?
01:01No.
01:03So I have supported and encouraged very strongly Tuli to run for Fowler.
01:11She's a gun candidate.
01:14She is a future Cabinet Minister.
01:16The US's decision to impose 10% tariffs on Australian imports
01:20is still a big theme on the campaign.
01:22Anthony Albanese was asked about the future of Australia's beef exports
01:25as trade restrictions on US beef are getting a lot of attention
01:28in the Trump administration.
01:30Tariffs are a cost on the country that's imposing them.
01:35On those consumers in the United States.
01:39That is what will occur.
01:41There aren't more head of cattle today on cattle stations in the US
01:47than there were yesterday.
01:49Everyone's costs have gone up by at least 10%
01:53and therefore the competitive position of Australian beef
01:58has not changed.
02:00Has not changed.
02:02So they will continue to access the US market.
02:07The Liberals can see Western Sydney in their future
02:09making a pitch to voters centred on the cost of living.
02:12And Labor is facing challenges from other independents too
02:15particularly on issues like Gaza.
02:17Anthony Albanese doesn't want to be the Labor Prime Minister that lost the West.
