00:00Yes, but you're back there.
00:03So, how do you feel about the opportunity to be here?
00:07You've been very passionate about the design of the building,
00:10and you've been describing the color of the building,
00:13and how the building traditionally is a case of
00:18having more government employees in the building.
00:23So, as for the mood, I'll let...
00:26Greg, you want to take that?
00:28Look, it was of course refreshing that we were able to have the meeting
00:32and learn the truth, but I and others, I think,
00:35we became more and more alarmed as the meeting went on,
00:38because I think the tie-in amongst all of this,
00:41and Ranking Member Raskin laid it out clearly,
00:43is that current law, won by so many Americans in this democracy,
00:49is that all kids deserve a decent education.
00:52That the money goes to your kid if they're in need,
00:54the money goes to your kid no matter their race,
00:57or their background, or their neighborhood,
00:59and they want to change that.
01:01That's what it comes down to.
01:02They might call it money going to the states,
01:04or reorganization, or block grants,
01:07they'll call it whatever they want to call it,
01:09but they essentially want to be able to send money
01:12to the communities they like, and punish the ones they don't.
01:15Just like right now they give pardons to the guys they like,
01:18and prosecute the people that they don't,
01:20just like they're giving government contracts to the folks
01:23that are their donors, and punishing the people that they don't,
01:26now they're saying,
01:27your kids are on the chopping block if we don't like them.
01:29That's what this comes down to.
01:31They essentially, what she tried to say in the nicest of terms,
01:35is that she wants to allow, get rid of the guardrails
01:40that protect all of our kids, and instead say,
01:43no, we can have it set up so that states can give money
01:46to the private schools that we like,
01:48and take away money from the public schools that we may not like.
01:51Or we want to be able to give money to a community
01:53because they bow down to us in the culture war,
01:56and take away money from a community
01:57because we want to have a fight about some social issue.
02:00And our kids, especially those that are struggling in the classroom,
02:05especially in communities that don't have enough money,
02:08especially our kids with special education needs,
02:11they shouldn't get caught up in the kind of Trump grift.
02:15But I expect what we're going to see,
02:17why I think the alarm was growing as the meeting went on and on,
02:20is that it feels like no matter what nice words they may put on it,
02:24at the end of the day,
02:25it feels like they're going to take our kids' money,
02:28this taxpayer money that's supposed to be going to our classrooms,
02:31and it's going to be another payday
02:33for the people that line up and support the Trump administration
02:37while innocent students and parents and families and teachers take the hit.
