00:00Now it's the sit-down with Christina Hendricks.
00:02Hi, Christina.
00:03Your limited series, Good American Family,
00:05follows the adoption story of Natalia Grace.
00:08We're caught up, and wow.
00:10Were you familiar with her lore
00:11when you signed on for this project?
00:13Here at People Mag, we covered it a lot.
00:16I actually was unfamiliar with it.
00:17I know a lot of people have followed the story
00:21or know bits of the story.
00:23It was actually introduced to me with the script.
00:26And then after I read the scripts,
00:28then I went back and I watched the ID series,
00:30and I went and looked at YouTube videos
00:33and found interviews and images and things like that.
00:35But that was how it was introduced to me.
00:38Did you speak to Cynthia at all?
00:39No, I didn't speak to Cynthia.
00:42To be quite honest, I got cast about 30 hours
00:45before I was on set.
00:46And so I did a very fast and furious sort of research
00:51and did as much as I could.
00:52And we rushed in and started the process
00:56with her look, with the wig,
00:58and then going into costumes and really creating her.
01:01And we also wanted to make sure that we are telling
01:04our dramatization and our interpretation of this story.
01:08It'll be fun.
01:09No!
01:10We have to talk about the rest of the cast.
01:12Ellen Pompeo, Mark Duplass, Imogen Faith Reid.
01:15Y'all acted your butts off.
01:17We love Ellen.
01:19Please give us the dish.
01:20Oh my gosh, I wish I had more scenes with Ellen,
01:23to be honest.
01:23Most of my scenes are courtroom scenes
01:25where there's sort of like a large group.
01:27And I've always wanted to work with Ellen.
01:29But what I can say is I worked with her more
01:31in a producer capacity.
01:33And being as that I was sort of brought in
01:36at the very last minute,
01:37and my first day I was in a little bit of a panic.
01:40Just like, am I prepared?
01:41Am I ready?
01:42And boy, she stepped in and said,
01:47what can we do?
01:48How can we make sure that you feel confident,
01:51that you're ready to move forward?
01:52Who do we need to call as far as coaching,
01:55as far as this?
01:57What can we do to make this an easy transition
01:59into the show?
02:00And she was fantastic.
02:02It's almost, well, in two years,
02:04the 20th anniversary of Mad Men's premiere.
02:07I guess time really does fly.
02:09It feels so strange.
02:11And I think because, you know,
02:13people are still watching it.
02:14So people still come up to me daily
02:17and say, I'm either re-watching it
02:18or I've just started watching it.
02:20It took me this many years.
02:21So it still feels very much a part of the culture
02:24and very much a part of the conversation,
02:26which I couldn't be more excited about
02:28because I don't ever want to let it go.
02:30So as long as people are talking,
02:32then it wasn't 20 years ago.
02:34Speaking of, that Jon Hemphill,
02:36he sure stays busy.
02:37Is he not like in everything lately?
02:40Is he everywhere?
02:41It's true.
02:42I saw him last weekend, actually.
02:44So maybe he is everywhere.
02:45We were dancing at a party together a week ago.
02:48You also have another milestone coming up on April 20th,
02:52your first wedding anniversary.
02:53How are you going to celebrate?
02:55I don't know.
02:57You know, I also have a very big birthday, May 3rd,
03:00a biggie.
03:01So it's all kind of around the same time.
03:04So I don't know.
03:05I don't know what I'm going to do.
03:06People say 50 is like,
03:09I keep hearing all this positive things about turning 50.
03:12I'm not super excited about it.
03:14I'll tell you what.
03:16I hope it brings wisdom.
03:17I hope it brings peace.
03:19Sunshine and a beach sounds nice.
03:21Something relaxing.
03:22Something zen.
03:24What's something about your relationship with George
03:26that you've never had or experienced before until now?
03:29We can go absolutely anywhere
03:32in the weirdest circumstances or the worst circumstances
03:35and we have fun.
03:36We can have a laugh.
03:38We have looked back at something.
03:40Remember when we were at that crazy, horrible hotel
03:42that was leaking water through the ceiling
03:45and this and that?
03:46And we were like, didn't we have fun?
03:48And we just laugh.
03:49We just laugh about everything.
03:51He's just, he's my best friend
03:53and he's just always a good time.
03:56Okay.
03:57I'm going to put 10 seconds on the clock.
03:58Tell everyone what they can expect
03:59in the last four episodes of Good American Family.
04:02Ready?
04:03Go.
04:04In the last four episodes of Good American Family,
04:07you're going to have a shift from the Barnett's perspective
04:09into Natalia's perspective.
04:11And what you think you may have known to be the truth
04:15is going to completely be blown away.
04:19Christina, thank you so much for being here.
04:23It was really nice talking to you.
