Albion writers Sam Morton and Henry Bryant discuss Brighton's poor display at home against Aston Villa in a Premier League clash.
Transcript
00:00Yes guys, how's it going? I'm Henry Bright, that's Sam Mawson. We're reporters for Sussex World and we've just watched Brighton lose 3-0 at home to Aston Villa in a Premier League fixture.
00:11So Sam, talk to me about that game. Were Brighton unlucky in this one?
00:15It was a poor performance really from a Brighton point of view. They were looking to bounce back from that FA Cup disappointment on Saturday.
00:22I kind of did feel the worst going into it. I felt like morale would be low, there were some key players out.
00:27You looked at the line-up and there were a few questionable decisions. I think Carlos Bale were out and obviously that hasn't gone well previously.
00:35But Brighton, just lacking something really. Just a little bit of cutting edge and there's a little bit of lack of confidence in those forward areas.
00:42They never really looked like scoring in the first half which ended goalless.
00:46Then Villa come out in the second half and obviously take the lead through Marcus Rashford.
00:52From a Brighton point of view, a really poor goal to concede from their own corner.
00:56Obviously to concede from that point of view is really disappointing.
01:01But they did respond really well actually with Simon Odinga scoring.
01:05A bit of a scrappy goalmouth scramble with Matoma getting the ball across.
01:10Martinez couldn't quite keep hold of the ball and it looked like a brilliant response and equaliser.
01:15But BER gets involved and obviously rules out the goal for what was a Matoma handball.
01:19Morale kind of dropped again after that and Villa ended up running away with it unfortunately.
01:24With Asensio coming off the bench to make it 2-0 and Marlon also coming off the bench to make it 3-0.
01:30So a real disappointing night at the office for Brighton and obviously a damaging one in that race for Europe as well.
01:36Absolutely and how do you think that's made them feel?
01:39Especially after that quarter-final penalty shootout defeat to Nottingham Forest as well.
01:44Yeah, it's two really poor results really.
01:46Brighton obviously have been on a great run of form since that horrible performance of Nottingham Forest in February.
01:54They bounced back so well and they kind of went into that FA Cup game looking for revenge against Forest and it didn't happen.
02:00And as I say, got some injuries coming into this and you kind of feared that it would be a difficult game against an in-form and confident Villa side.
02:07And a point probably would have been a good result.
02:10But unfortunately, that goal that was disallowed really did change things.
02:14I feel like if that had been given, it could have been a completely different thing.
02:17Brighton would have been confident, the fans were up.
02:19But it just kind of added to a real downer on the way things were going when that goal was disallowed.
02:24Some things up for Brighton at the moment and as we know, things in football change so quickly.
02:28It was only last week, we were obviously on the high and playing really well.
02:31Two really bad results unfortunately and suddenly it's not looking too good.
02:36No, it really isn't, especially with what they're looking to achieve this season with European spots.
02:40And you can catch reaction from this game and more at sasa12.co.uk
