Transcript
00:00Our live coverage continues now this hour with Leslie Hudson.
00:03She joins us live from Colt, Arkansas.
00:04Leslie, there have been large wedge-shaped tornadoes
00:08in parts of Arkansas.
00:10What's going on in Colt right now?
00:14So we have been chasing those lines of storms, Jeff,
00:17that you guys have been talking about for the last couple
00:20of hours.
00:21There's been about 10 tornado-worn storms in and around
00:25where we are in Colt. So we've been
00:27trying to get ahead of some of them.
00:29You can probably see some of the CG, the lightning behind me.
00:32It's definitely over my shoulder.
00:33It's been, you know, the low-level jets
00:36been impressive all day in this region.
00:39But as you know, this is just day one
00:41of a multi-day severe weather, potentially flash flooding
00:45event.
00:46Folks have been told to get off the roads in this part
00:49of Arkansas to try and stay home if they can be off the roads.
00:53We did shoot some video just within this last hour
00:55in between Brinkley and Colt and in those surrounding areas.
00:59You'll see a wall cloud in one of those vantage points,
01:02again, where we were trying to get ahead
01:04of some of these storms to see what they were going to do.
01:07We know that there's been an active day in terms of hail.
01:11Was checking some of the National Weather Service
01:13reports that there's definitely been a golf ball and larger.
01:16I know we've been talking about that on the network as well.
01:19So the potential now is for this ongoing event
01:22tonight, which, of course, becomes much more dangerous.
01:25Folks tend to become less interactive with their phones,
01:28less interactive with notifications
01:30that they may get.
01:31And so we always try and tell folks
01:32to at least have two ways to get your notifications
01:35through tonight if you're in this zone,
01:37this particularly dangerous situation
01:40that we could be dealing with multi-track, long-lived
01:44tornadoes tonight and into tomorrow.
01:46And then, of course, the second prong to this
01:49is this massive potential for flash flooding.
01:54We were in Little Rock this morning,
01:55spent about half the day there.
01:57Those folks in that area sent the kids home
01:59in that district home early at noon.
02:02All the schools in and around that district were let out.
02:05There was also a push to get folks home and close businesses
02:10again in preparation of this event.
02:11That area saw an EF3 just two years ago,
02:14which leveled many parts of Little Rock.
02:17So they know this scenario well.
02:19They're taking the threat seriously.
02:21I do know from other officials here in this area
02:24that they have put additional flash flooding personnel
02:27in place in the event that they've got a few water
02:29rescues tonight or tomorrow.
02:31They're trying to mitigate that damage or that concern
02:34and get folks in place ahead of time, ahead of these storms.
02:37So likely going to be a long night for a lot of folks,
02:40and we are headed towards the Memphis area
02:42to continue our coverage with you all tomorrow morning early.
02:45And we'll continue to have more over these next couple of days.
02:48Reporting live from Colts, Arkansas,
02:50I'm Leslie Hudson. Back to you.
02:52All right, be safe, Leslie.
02:53Thank you so much for that report there.
02:55A lot of lightning in the Colts, Arkansas area.
02:58Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
02:59Just recently confirmed a tornado moved through that area.
03:02The report was that a tornado was spotted
03:06very close to fire station number one
03:08in the city of Cape Girardeau.
03:09That storm has continued to produce a likely tornado.
03:12Now it's no longer in Cape Girardeau.
03:14In fact, it's crossed the river
03:15moving into Union County of Illinois.
