00:00How we doing today? So I am Val Hoyle, I represent the Central and South Coast of
00:08Oregon and there's a bunch of people on Trans Day of Visibility that want us,
00:14that want you to disappear, to be quiet, anyone who's different. Well I'm here to
00:21say we'll stand with you loud and proud.
00:29I'm here to say that what's clear is that people living as their authentic
00:35selves should not be a problem for anyone else. I'm here to stand with the
00:41trans community because how you choose to live your life as your
00:47authentic self does not scare me nor should it scare me because our diversity
00:53is our strength. And what we've seen over the last election cycle is fear-mongering
01:01and disinformation targeting the trans community and it's wrong. We have to
01:10stand together because as so many transgender activists have said trans
01:14people may be the first target but they will not be the last. And we've seen the
01:21same cruel targets being used against unions, against immigrants, against legal
01:26permanent residents and against who had their only crime was exercising their
01:35right to free speech. Well growing up in the labor movement I learned very young
01:41one thing and that is an attack on one is an attack on all. And the only way to
01:52push back against you know some of the most powerful people in the world who
01:58have targeted trans people specifically is through solidarity across gender
02:06identities, races, genders, colors, creeds, class. It doesn't matter. We stand
02:14together or we all fall. So the fact of the matter is your rights as trans
02:22people are directly tied to my rights as a woman which are directly tied to the
02:28rights of college students, to immigrants because we may not have the
02:35same story but we are all vulnerable if we don't stand up. If we say it's okay
02:43because I'm not like them they won't stop. They will not stop. So just so you
02:49know I will defend your right to live as you are as long as I am in this body
02:57because your right to be just you is directly tied to all of our rights. So I
03:05want to thank thank again the Christopher Street Project for this
03:09opportunity to speak to you today. Know you are welcome in my office here or if
03:14you're in Oregon and I'd like to introduce the voted the most effective
03:20freshman legislator of the 118th Congress Hawaiian Jill Takuda.
