00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, from Televisa Studios
00:55in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:57We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:13And in Venezuela, on Monday, the Prosecutor's Office further denounced the kidnapping of
01:16national migrants by the government of El Salvador and the United States, describing
01:21it as a crime against humanity.
01:23This way, the Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab condemned the arbitrary
01:27detentions by the U.S. government and the criminalization of national migrants, most
01:31of whom had no criminal records but were detained, allegedly due to links with the extinct criminal
01:36organization Trent Aragua.
01:38Saab further condemned the mistreatment of the Venezuelans who were currently kidnapped
01:41in El Salvador at a high-security prison.
01:44The Attorney General referred to the kidnapping as a crime against humanity since it intends
01:48the discrimination based on nationality in an absolute violation of international law.
01:58And on Sunday, the American Civil Liberties Union released the Alien Enemy Law Validation
02:03Guide, which confirms that Venezuelan migrants are detained for having tattoos and wearing
02:08clothes, not for belonging to gangs or committing crimes.
02:11On the same day, a journalistic investigation revealed that the pact between Washington
02:15and San Salvador, promoted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had its origin in the surrender
02:20of a Salvadoran gang member nicknamed El Greñas, whose name is Cesar Humberto López Larios.
02:27This member of the Mara Salvatrucha MS-13 gang was under federal authority and accused
02:32of narcoterrorism.
02:33Rubio arranged his exchange because he apparently has information about the Bukele government's
02:39negotiations with gang members.
02:41Meanwhile, evidence of illegal deportations that amount to human rights violations continues
02:45to emerge.
02:51And the World Food Program warns of a growth crisis for children in Haiti.
02:56The organization states that about 10 million dollars are needed to feed more than 1.3 million
03:01Haitian specialist children.
03:03This in the face of the violence unleashed by armed groups in the Caribbean country,
03:08causing high levels of hunger and forced displacement.
03:11Twenty-five percent of children under the age of five in the country are stunned, with
03:14one in six infants on the brink of starvation.
03:21An Ecuador-Historic Agreement was signed on Sunday between Citizens' Revolution, the
03:25movement of Luisa González, who is contesting the presidency of the country, and the Pachacutic
03:31Indigenous Movement, considered the third political force in the country.
03:35For details, we are calling Elena RodrĂguez.
03:41Manuel Quesalima left his farm in Colta.
03:44For today, he is not wielding his hoe, but a flag.
03:47He arrived at the central square of Ticin, in Alausi, in the middle of the Andes mountain
03:52range.
03:53He says that he came to fight for a fair Ecuador.
03:59We have never had help from the government.
04:01That's why we want President Luisa González to help, to facilitate life to the poor people,
04:08the farmers, the people who work.
04:16Hundreds of farmers and workers came to this square to witness the signing of the agreement
04:22between the Citizen Revolution and the Pachacutic Movement, the third political force in the
04:26country.
04:30We as national political leaders, we are obliged to give our political criteria and our ideological
04:35position.
04:36We maintain our historical project of 1994, which manifests our anti-capitalist, anti-neoliberal
04:43position.
04:44Therefore, we will never go with the right wing, not a single vote to the right.
04:52This position was evident in this square adorned in multiple colors.
04:57Banners of around 75 left-wing parties and movements filled the space that served as
05:02the stage for the signing of this unprecedented political agreement.
05:09Since Lenin Moreno's government, Lasso's government, and now Novoa's government neoliberal
05:13policies have been applied.
05:14In the face of that, we cannot turn our backs on this country.
05:21That is why we have decided to generate a process of unity of the left.
05:29Unity and programmatic agreement was defined in aspects such as the fight against insecurity,
05:34the elimination of large-scale mining, the reduction of the value-added tax from 15 percent
05:39to 12 percent, not allowing the privatization of strategic sectors, among others.
05:49Today we say to the whole country, fighting for Ecuador is an act of love for the homeland,
05:55for 18 million Ecuadorians.
05:58And to love Ecuador is to take care of our peoples, to take care of our people, to respect
06:11our cultures, and also to heal our wounds.
06:23In addition, they rejected the development of a constituent assembly, as proposed by
06:28the presidential candidate Daniel Novoa.
06:30They maintain that the rights achieved in the current Ecuadorian political charter cannot
06:35be rolled back.
06:40Members of the Colombian Education Workers' Federation mobilized this Monday in support
06:44of the social reforms mollied by the government.
06:46The rallies aimed to raise awareness about the need to improve working conditions for
06:50teachers.
06:51In addition, it is expected that for Tuesday the union organization will deliver a list
06:55of demands to the government in which they expose their proposals in order to achieve
06:59better working conditions for the nation's teachers.
07:02The union argued that Colombia is the country where the people struggle and senators of
07:06the 7th Commission get paid, in reference to the committee that sank the labor reform
07:11promoted by the government.
07:13We now have our first break coming up, remember you can join us on Tiktok at TELUS for English,

07:23We'll be right back, stay with us.
07:36Welcome back.
07:57The Myanmar Red Cross reported that the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that shook the country
08:01on Friday destroyed 70% of the Sagaing city.
08:05The powerful earthquake left at least 2,056 dead, 3,900 injured and 217 missing persons.
08:12According to the latest release by the country's State Administration Council information team,
08:17on the rescue work, the military junta informed that there are specialists from several countries
08:21– among them China, Russia, Singapore, India and Thailand – who are participating in
08:26the search and rescue efforts.
08:28They confirmed that the situation in Sagaing city was more uncertain as it was a zone of
08:33armed conflict.
08:34In this context, about 400 Chinese earthquake experts, rescuers and medics are participating
08:42in relief efforts in different parts of Myanmar.
08:45The teams have reportedly rescued six survivors so far in the heavily affected areas of Mandalay
08:50and Nay Chitaw.
08:51In addition, the Chinese government sent on Sunday a batch of goods, including clothes,
08:56medicine and other daily necessities, and another batch on Monday containing materials
09:00such as tents, blankets and more than 40,000 first aid kits.
09:05China has pledged to provide Myanmar with close to $14 million in humanitarian aid following
09:10the deadly earthquake that struck the country's central region on Friday, killing over 2,000
09:16people and leaving 270 still missing.
09:20Many people died in the earthquake in the area where we live.
09:28As well as on nearby streets and Sagaing hill.
09:34The urban area is worst hit, causing the largest number of casualties.
09:44Some roads and bridges collapsed completely.
09:49Many people were buried under rubber.
09:52The Chinese rescue teams came to help us.
09:54They have asked about our situation and needs.
09:56They have given us aid and support.
09:57Thank you very much.
09:58I hope I can express my gratitude to the Chinese rescue teams on behalf of the people in the
10:02affected areas.
10:05A U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs
10:10if the Persian nation does not reach an agreement with the White House on its nuclear program.
10:15In declarations to U.S. media, Trump said that if they do not reach an agreement, there
10:19will be bombings as never seen before.
10:21In this sense, the President also added the possibility of imposing secondary tariffs
10:25as he did four years ago.
10:27Washington accuses Tehran of enriching uranium to develop weapons, although Iran has stressed
10:31that its nuclear program is peaceful, unlike the Israeli one.
10:35On the other hand, Iranian President Massoud Pashinyan stated that Tehran rejects direct
10:39talks with the United States on the issue, pointing out that Iran keeps the door open
10:43to negotiations with the U.S. through mediators.
10:48The response by the Supreme Leader to Donald Trump's letter was delivered to the U.S.
10:55through direct contact in Oman by our brother, Dr. Abbas Araci.
11:07In that response, direct negotiations have been rejected, but regarding indirect talks,
11:14Iran has always been involved in such talks, and the Supreme Leader has emphasized that
11:19indirect talks can still continue.
11:21We don't avoid talks.
11:23It's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far.
11:27They must prove that they can build trust.
11:30I hope this is formed.
11:36And the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, affirmed that any kind of attack
11:40against his country will receive a reciprocal and forcible response.
11:43During his speech on the occasion of the end of the fasting holiday, Khamenei pointed out
11:48that he does not see it probable that the country will be attacked from outside and
11:51warn against a call for protest in Iran by sectors supported by the United States.
11:56The Iranian Supreme Leader took the opportunity to point out that Israel's genocidal actions
12:00against Palestine are committed with the support of the United States.
12:04Khamenei's statements come after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with bombings
12:09and tariffs if they do not reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
12:17In the U.S., auto stocks took a critical hit following President Donald Trump's announcement
12:22of permanent tariffs where Europe and Asia are the continents most affected by the significant
12:27market decline.
12:28Investors reacted quickly to the news fearing that these tariffs could severely impact the
12:33profitability of automotive companies and lead to higher prices for consumers.
12:38Analysts also warned that these measures could further destabilize the automotive industry
12:43as many companies rely on global supply chains and imports of parts and complete vehicles.
12:52Meanwhile in France on Monday, a court found far-right leader Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement
12:57of European Parliament funds, effectively banning the National Rally politicians from
13:01running for office in 2027.
13:04In addition to the five-year ban, Le Pen was handed by judges a $108,195 fine.
13:10Furthermore, the French leader was sentenced to four years in prison, with two years suspended
13:14and the other two to be served outside jail with an electronic bracelet, neither of which
13:19will be applied until the verdict on her appeals.
13:22Le Pen together with 24 party members were found guilty of a scheme to embezzle European
13:27Parliament funds by using money destined for Parliament assistance to pay party workers.
13:32The year's loan scheme reportedly caused losses of $4.89 million to European taxpayer
13:38funds.
13:39And the Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Fredrik Nielsen, reaffirmed on Monday that the United
13:47States would never take over their territory, such statement had the full support of the
13:51newly elected Parliament.
13:52Nielsen insisted that they didn't belong to anyone, so he sent a direct message to
13:57the U.S. President Donald Trump to ensure him he would not get Greenland.
14:01Likewise, the Danish government rejected the term of the White House and its envoys.
14:05In this context, the foreign minister of Denmark, Lars-Lukas Rasmussen, condemned the criticism
14:10of the U.S. Vice President, James Devance.
14:12Meanwhile, Copenhagen had offered to reinforce the U.S. military presence on the island.

14:33A final break, we're gonna be right back, don't go away.
15:03On Sunday, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced the recovery of 14 bodies of health
15:16workers.
15:17Eight of them were members of the organization, five were rescuers and one was a U.N. worker,
15:21all missing since last Sunday following an Israeli offensive on southern Gaza.
15:26They were found in the area of Tell al-Sultan, one of the neighborhoods most affected by
15:31the conflict in the city of Rafah, on the border with Egypt.
15:35The organization said the bodies were difficult to recover because they were buried in sand
15:39and some had begun to decompose.
15:41In a press conference held on Sunday morning before the news broke, the Society's president,
15:45Younis al-Hatib, held the Israeli authorities responsible for the safety and lives of the
15:49medics.
15:56The
16:12medical and civil defense crews were executed.
16:15They tied their hands and placed their bodies in a hole and covered it with sand.
16:19Why?
16:20These people should be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court.
16:22This should be a priority.
16:24Not only the hostages, this case should shake the whole world and everyone should be aware
16:28of the case of the paramedics and medical crews.
16:30They went to provide first aid and they all died at once.
16:36An Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu designated Monday Vice Admiral Eli Sharpeid
16:41as the new head of the Shin Bet, that is, the country's General Intelligence and Internal
16:45Security Service, ousting Ronen Barr.
16:48Barr was removed from office for conducting an investigation into an alleged corruption
16:52case in which Benjamin Netanyahu was involved.
16:55The Prime Minister's office commented that Sharpeid is the right person to lead the agency
16:59because of his extensive experience in the service of the Israeli forces.
17:03Meanwhile, the opposition and the people criticized such decision.
17:11An Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reaffirmed the rights of Palestinian people
17:16and condemned the Israeli occupation on the Day of Palestinian Land.
17:20On his ex-account, Khamenei stressed that the Israeli occupation regime, which controls
17:24the land of Palestine, has no right over it.
17:27He further emphasized that the land belongs to the entire Palestinian people, including
17:31Muslims, Christians and Jews, backing up his claim with historical and geographical arguments.
17:36In this context, the Hamas-Palestinian Islamic Resistance movement opposed to any plan that
17:41involves displacement or resettlement of the Palestinian people.
17:49In our news on Monday, Russia denounced that the Kiev regime is attacking its energy systems.
17:53The Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Bryansk,
17:58causing power outages.
17:59The Ministry said that an ulterior attack on a facility of a subsidiary of the public
18:03joint-stock company Rosetti Center and Bryansk Energo led to a disruption of the high-voltage
18:09line in the province's border in Ukraine.
18:11The Roman Agency pointed out that the continuous deliberate attacks by the Kiev armed forces
18:15on Russian energy facilities show the complete inability of the Zelensky regime to assume
18:20any of its obligations regarding the settlement of the conflict.
18:27And Pope Francis' doctor Sergio Alfieri announced that the pontiff showed a truly surprising
18:32improvement.
18:33Alfieri had treated the Pope from the time he was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in
18:37Rome until today.
18:39The medical report indicated that Francis is more animated, recovering his voice and
18:44less dependent on oxygen.
18:45On the message sent Sunday to his parishioners, the Pope made sure that he is healing from
18:50his soul and from his body.
18:52In the meantime, Monsignor Rino Fisichella had been appointed to house the pontiff in
18:56the Lenten activities, since the latter has a prescription not to attend public events
19:01for two months.
19:05And it was unveiled on Monday that Pope Francis has approved the canonization of Venezuelan
19:10nun, Mother Carmen Rendiles, Foundress of the Servants of Jesus, who carried out her
19:15service in parishes and schools dedicating herself to those in need.
19:19Rendiles was born in Caracas on August 11, 1903, and dedicated herself to the apostolate
19:25in the parish from a very young age.
19:27She took her perpetual vows on September 8, 1932.
19:31Later on, she founded the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus, together with many
19:35Latin American sisters.
19:37After her death in 1977, she was beatified on June 16, 2018, for the miraculous healing
19:42of a young woman suffering from idiopathic tri-ventricular hydrocephalus, attributed
19:48to her intercession.
19:49With the canonization, Mother Carmen Rendiles becomes the first female saint of Venezuela.
19:55And this, we have come to the end of this newsbrief.
