00:06as promised by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who visited the country.
00:12As for that, there is an anti-ship missile system that is being used from the ground.
00:17Witness, JP Soriano.
00:22In the face of U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to President Bongbong Marcos of Malacanang,
00:28he pointed out the situation in the West Philippine Sea.
00:31Hegseth reiterated the U.S. commitment to support the upcoming Philippine attack on China.
00:38Peace through strength is a very real thing.
00:41Deterrence is necessary around the world, but specifically in this region, in your country,
00:48considering the threats from the Communist Chinese,
00:51and that friends need to stand shoulder to shoulder to deter conflict,
00:56to ensure that there's free navigation, whether you call it the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea.
01:09Thank you, Mr. Secretary.
01:10Well, being a friend to the United States is something that is inherent with most Filipinos,
01:16considering the relationship that we have had over a hundred years in various forms.
01:25And you are our only treaty partner and continue to be the supporter for peace in this part of the world.
01:39As part of the ceasing of the threats in the region,
01:42Hegseth said that the U.S. will send more advanced capabilities to the Philippines.
01:49Hegseth announced this after his visit to Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. in Camp Aguinaldo.
01:56First, we agreed that the United States will deploy additional advanced capabilities to the Philippines.
02:04This includes using the Nemesis anti-ship missile system and highly capable unmanned surface vehicles.
02:15In exercise Balikatan this April.
02:20These systems will enable U.S. forces and the armed forces of the Philippines to train together
02:25on using advanced capabilities to defend the Philippines' sovereignty.
02:31The Nemesis or Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System
02:35is an anti-ship missile system that is used from the ground.
02:40The deployment of the Nemesis and other unmanned surface vehicles
02:45will hasten the introduction of these technologies into the vista of the Philippine Armed Forces
02:53and will train our troops to train for higher technological capabilities
02:58that we need for effective deterrence in the future.
03:02Hegseth's assurance is that the Philippines will not leave the United States
03:06in its battles in the West Philippine Sea against China.
03:11And this is just the beginning of a stronger alliance between the two countries.
03:17The US and the Philippines' defense cooperation was first announced by the Foreign Ministry of China.
03:23Its message to the Philippines is that the use of mouthpiece or foreign language
03:29as well as the creation of gimmicks for the personal political agenda
03:34was answered by Teodoro and Hegseth.
03:38We don't practice propaganda in this country.
03:41We practice free speech and democracy.
03:44So the Philippines is not a mouthpiece.
03:47We don't seek to nation-build.
03:49We don't seek to use chess pieces and move them around the board.
03:53All we seek is peace.
03:55All we seek is freedom and cooperation.
03:59And mutual benefit.
04:01When US Defense Secretary Hegseth returned to the US,
04:03he said that he got important information from the AFP and Secretary Teodoro.
04:08Information that he will tell US President Donald Trump
04:11that promises to strengthen the relationship between the US and the Philippines this year.
04:17Along with Hegseth's visit,
04:19the Navy of the Philippines, America, and Japan will train
04:23in the Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity or MMCA
04:27near Bajo de Masinlo,
04:29where a Chinese warship was spotted,
04:32even though it was moving and did not approach.
04:35We were able to detect the presence of a Chinese frigate
04:40and we were able to challenge them.
04:42There was a time around midnoon,
04:44they actually attempted to maneuver closely,
04:49but again we challenged them and we asked of their intent
04:54and then they altered their course.
04:56For GMA Integrated News, I am JP Soriano, your witness.
